- CBS New York's Bronx Community Reporter Shosh Bedrosian has been speaking with street vendors about making the permit system more fair and equal for them, as they face mounting fines from the Department of Sanitation.
The media won't even touch the issue that he is here illegally.

We have someone who can’t legally work in the USA, and We are suppose to feel sorry for him because he wants to set up a cart in the city and make money from American Citizens who pay taxes, but this guy Probably never payed a dime in Taxes.

They can’t get a permit because of the outdated system that favors friends and families of permit decision makers. Limiting permits to 5200 for a city of 7 million is insane.
@@agpc0529 No it's not insane. You have to consider what types of permits. Food is one thing (Dept of Health/Sanitation) wares and other things probably a different agency. We have stores for buying things. There are 9MM people in NYC. Where will all these people set up vending? There are some districts they wouldn't be allowed in Manhattan so forget that. 5200 already out and around the city is enough, considering we need space to walk.

Why is this even a story and presented as if this man did no wrong? He is operating illegally…. If he is operating this as a last resort to feed his family then that logic can be applied to drug dealers. Drug dealers have families too and if someone says oh selling food is harmless compared to drugs. Okay, if his food gives someone food poisoning and the person dies. Who do we hold responsible?

What about the people that own brick and mortar stores? They pay taxes, employ others, and do things the right way. Some streets look like garbage outlets, vendors everywhere. No sanitation, no hand washing, no place to walk. Counterfeit goods everywhere. Also, it says that the maximum fine was $1000. That doesn't mean that's what they'll charge him.

No exceptions. Especially street food. We have systems of oversight for a reason. That you manage to rack up so many fines, suggests you're not doing things right. Should probably find something else to do.
that is maximum penalty. usually its much lower. tickets are probably only 100 each if they admit guilt. Dont believe the $6000
The unfair part is the hundreds of thousands of dollars not being reported to IRS because is a cash only and they don’t file for their earnings and if they do they only file for low income to avoid paying taxes.
Taxation on income is theft of wages. Plain and simple.
NYC was never fair, never will be fair. Fines are apart of NYC. Whoever doesnt like it can leave. How can you get a permit if your not a US citizen, dont have ID, cant speak English? They dont pay taxes. Pay the fine.

I'm curious to why lawmakers won't change the law so that the person who holds the permit must be present. Substitutes are not allowed. This would prevent people from selling/renting their permits to others for profit.

Why should a store owner be responsible for vendors (illegal migrants) setting up shop in front of their store? That makes no sense. The store has rent to pay, taxes to pay and probably workers. You sound silly.
These are not vendors. Why should they get vendor permits when everybody else can’t get it.
