Thanks for an extensive review, Splatter!
Hope you enjoyed my performances in this game, as well!
You could hear me in this video as a couple of mobs (Skin Collector, Skin Seeker, Cultist), but you can also hear me as 2 NPCs, one of them being the Treeman, and the other being a very important character who you'll be seeing (and hearing!) a lot of - the skeletal Undead (lovingly nicknamed by the community as "Mr. Bones")!
Hope everyone who tries the game has a blast. I'll see y'all Westside, partners!
💀🤠
I'd love to get into voice acting for game. I can tell it's something you enjoy!
Immediate buy on seeing Splat's video - cant wait to play now!
@@humonquly100 Hell yeah! It's the best thing I've done in my entire life. It brings so much fulfilment if you're a true fan of games!
@@ohnoitisnt666 Let's gooo! Hope you have an awesome time!
I love your enthusiasm! This game is sold on that alone!
"This game wants you to be stealthy very, very, very badly - oh god I'm being bit - break out the shotgun!! " I love Splat.
In all fairness...he was playing stealthy, very very badly...
Classic Splat.
*need more firepower*
It was a pleasant experience to be a part of this game (as one of the translators). The devs are awesome people.
Great work! And 100% agreed on the devs being awesome! :D
Nice to know that both Stephen Russell (of Thief and Fallout 4 fame) and Gianni is here.
It's actually a really good feeling to co-starr with such big names. Hoping my name is gonna be as recognizable as theirs one day! 😁
We need more weird west games! Definitely going to keep an eye on this one.
This is so much like the thief games. They're my all time fave games and I've replayed them a ton. Even the main character is the same voice actor. Can't wait to play this.
Oh yes! and im in it! awesome stuff splatter! 🤟
Yes, this game is EXTREMELY good. I hope we eventually get a DLC map and maybe a sequel.
I only want to buy games that are 10/10 masterpieces at this point. Is it?
@@FSVR54 10/10? I don't know how many games I'd actually rate that high. For this one it depends on what you like I guess. It has some good atmosphere but really the main appeal of BW is the gameplay. If this combination of elements seems like one you would enjoy then maybe give it a look, but if the gameplay doesn't look really appealing to you than maybe not.
Inventory management is a huge part of survival horror, because the point of survival horror is to survive on limited resources and for enemy encounters to be strategic and difficult. Inventory management adds tension.. also, I find it really enjoyable.. especially tetris systems like this and diablo because its like a whole other minigame hehehe.
Nailed it.
The backpacks help too, I had a bunch that were always stuffed with loot
Played this the first time you covered it and still waiting for chapter 3, really fun game
Chapter 3 is out as of yesterday I believe!
@@matx6666 really? SWEET thanks for the heads up
Love your content Splat!
Love that youre getting to this one. Its such a good game.
Heeeell yeah! So happy to see more games becoming 1.0.
Just commenting to say I've been playing this for a while and it's amazing!
Oh wow this looks super immersive and fun, just the kind of thing I've been super into recently. Will check it out for sure!
So an indie decided to do a single-player Hunt Showdown? I'm all about it!
That’s exactly what I got from watching this lol
Yeah I'll be getting this one for sure thx splat man 👌
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
Absolutely love this game. It is truly a gem, hope it keeps expanding.
splat it is insane how far your channel has come, i remember my first video i watched of yours was your mountain blade play thru. now youre more than halfway to 900k, love to see it man keep it up
I kinda expected Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, but got Thief with guns instead. I really like the stealth element!
In 1850 or so ( the year I’m guessing this mostly took place ) 30$ was roughly $1180 2023 dollars
I agree with you on the inventory management mechanic. I was/am very careful with that opinion, because... immersion, and all. However, at the end of the day, worrying about what to keep and what to throw doesn't add enjoyment or a sense of accomplishment. It's not like choosing critical dialog options that send you on different story arcs. You won't replay a game to see what happens if you take the hammer rather than the shield out of the dungeon.
It's about the level of difficulty wanted in a game. carrying everything like a doom guy isn't necessarily conducive to the kind of game they want to make.
I think I agree on wanting a dedicated melee slot though.
@@mrjtfang2 I hear what you're sayin'. I think difficulty is better managed through level of enemy AI (if the developer can manage it). But player v. environment is definitely a valid path. It comes down to whether you get more gratification from besting a breathing foe or life. I lean toward "foe" because facing life is an old hat for a guy like me.
@@Nashmitenah that reads like “If there’s difficult AI the rest should be easy” absolutely not the case. Especially as if you can grab everything not nailed down it would make it easier to power through a lot of any other mechanics.
@@sabotagethefool Sorry if it read like that, but that's not what I said or implied. I simply compared one system to another: Enemy AI > Inventory Management. Didn't mention steath v. brute, weapon choice, skill tree, etc. All things that can dramatically change difficulty and enjoyment. But if developers want you to have less stuff during your run; "nail" more down. It would also makes the things you DO find that much more impactful. However, I acknowledge that all this is a very delicate balancing act, and I have never developed a game before. We're all just a bunch of armchair quarterbacks at the end of the day :)
@@Nashmite Then you’re limited to being given only those things with no choice at all, inventory systems works lol
Ah i remember this game, awesome that its finally out, cant wait to get into it again
Crocodilians and birds care for their young unlike all the other reptiles. And both have the hip joint and other characteristics that are closely related to dinosaurs especially birds which are dinosaurs. Makes you wonder if the dino's could have been super intelligent like birds and crocodilians.
Aggro is a bit wonky at times, but I'm starting to think it might be deliberate because otherwise you'd pull a whole fort after a shot or two and even going maxed out combat skills you probably wouldn't survive.
Yeah, that is probably it. You have 10-15+ enemies on you. With the statmina system that be hell.
7:00 - 30 1850ish USD would be close to $1200 today.
Game looks great, thanks for the putting it on display!
10:44 Seems like the pit would be easier to clear with the shotgun than pistol since they clumped up. And you can peek/shoot faster with it since you need less time to aim.
Packs make inventory management much much easier, I tend to stick relics and loot in them though since ammo in them isn't accessible on the fly
I think the recent update fixed this! It’s really good if you haven’t given it another try man
@Karakzul I have and yeah I was happy with the change. The only current shortcoming is needing to restack ammo there as it doesn't add on automatically
There's a sword that's really cool you can find that causes you to bleed when you hit an enemy, and you can pair ot with that bleeding relic and become an unstoppable bloody samurai.
So it is FPS Old West Bloodborne since it has the Chikaga.
I almost bought the wrong game after watching this! Almost had Evil West instead of Blood west. Great video! Cant wait to play
Backpack hero, the game that comes to mind where inventory matters. It matters a lot
I just go guns blazing in this game. Can’t wait for part 3.
The lore notes also tell you about enemies weaknesses.
This game gives off Weird-West vibes - will definitely check it out!
Reminds me of a Grim Dawn FPS.
I like how they choose that obscure experimental handgun lol nice
Wow, that looks cool! Thank you
worth praising that you have been playin the game prepping of for the review
whoa! That shotty has some massive kick. I like that in a game
As always, love the content! You’re one of my favorite content creators especially for game reviews!
That being said, I’m missing the straightforwardness of your old titles. I know that you’ve had to change them recently to be click-baity due to UA-cam optimization, but would it be possible to then include the title of the game you’re reviewing in the thumbnail (if you can’t include it in the title of the video)? Right now, until you click on the video, there isn’t a way to know the title of the game you’re reviewing. It would make going back and rewatching reviews/ finding a specific game a lot easier.
But again, I don’t really know UA-cam’s optimization pressures so it’s understandable if you don’t do it because including that info makes the video do worse.
If he could, he should probably just add both together. I kinda' like the description of the games.
I absolutely love this game, reminds me of Gothic and how bit awkward it was yet so comfy :D
I love this concept.
Any game that bring the Deadlands ttrpg vibe is a win.
I played through this game on normal or hard with a gamepad comfy on my couch. Was a blast. My game of the year2023 next to Laika
As a fan of Deadlands and the weird west setting in general, i'm looking forward to checking this out personally.
It reminds me the FPS of PS1 era, I love those ones :')
Loving it already! Seems really fun!
i am probably a bit better at sneaking but i bought the game after your video and i love that dagger you have, 5hp on stealth kill is usefull but also found a sawed off legendary in a grave behind church that give 5hp on headshot. i said the first part about sneaking cause i have more bullet than i can count, i have almost a 100 small bullet and 50 shotgun round, i followed your instruction of being sneaky and it work nice.
Stealth is definitely the way to go. My normal load out is either a shotgun or big melee weapon in my main slot and the bone knife in the small one. I love that spirit axe you can pick up in act 2. Silent ranged headshot kills and it returns to your hand. I always try to work my way in from the outside of any area just like I did in Thief and Deus Ex. I got the game in early access after Splats vid. I havent played the 1.0 yet. That'll be what I do over Christmas.
Easy fix add random bag upgrade locations (hidden backpacks or ruck sacks etc). For sure they need to fix the stack size.
This game is sooooooo good
"there's a lot of gators here for a place called gator farm" lmao yeah you'd think
This game reminds me a lot of the Evil Dead games back on the ps2
So much ADS in close range, game looks cool, keep on with great content!
Great video as always. This game looks really cool :)
435 games on my wish list now
i blame u splattercat
Game reminds a bit of Darkwatch years ago. Alas that's a gem which will never be made again...
it reminds me so much of the N64 era and i love it
O man i was hoping yull play this again.
> "...if you can get in behind it."
Rogues do it from behind.
So we have:
Evil West
Weird West
Hard West
Adlers Blood.
And now blood West.
All super similar name, setting and vibe, but in 3 different gameplay styles. I like it. But how they dont over saturate the genra
So it's the Dagon plot line set in the wild west thats a pretty crazy idea.
I cannot think of another creator that has sold me on more Indie games than Splat.
I just came across Super Woden GP 2. It's like Gran Turismo but Micro Machine style graphics. 180 cars, good music, lots of tracks, rally circuit, and super addictive for only $12!
hoping this gets streamed later.
In words of Caleb, this promises to be fun!
SC, I love your previews for close to a decade + now, but could you be more proactive in showing the level up systems for a game. You are the best.
I didn't know I needed an FPS Grim Dawn until just now.
Bought this game when it showed up on Steam long time ago...havent even played more than 10 minutes cause the first section of the game was boring. Maybe I should give it a chance...
Loved this game glad its finally released
I didn't find curse gold but my life is still pretty damn cursed, such as losing my hearing in frightening speeds. Life is the pits and I haven't amounted to much, just working dead end , dull jobs with no future in sight but I could handle all of that if I just had my hearing. Now that I can't even come home to watch something fully...it's just, pretty cursed.
Splat is a dragon. He wants his hoard.
Inventory is kinda on point, I could stuff about 20 12g shottie or 2-3 15rd clips in one pocket
Can you change the brightness level in the Game?
Wish there was an option for a "thunk" sound when you hit
It's Hunt: Showdown the singleplayer adventure :D
you´re awesome!
I don't think I've ever seen a full game featuring a Volcanic pistol like that before. I've only seen it appear in mods and the like.
Red Dead 1 and 2 both I think have it?
I've never played them, tbh. I'll have to take a look! The Volcanic was one of my first really in-depth recreation projects, although I didn't make mine caseless.
Episode 1 was so good! Atmospheric, challenging, interesting! The ending was a bit meh, though. Didn't like ep.2 very much because of it's theme. Have yet to play ep.3
8:10 - Fire one shell, reload, reload only one shell. A detail most modern AAA shooters completely skimp out on.
I love that game is a blast :)
Definitely one of my favorite game of the year!
i cant remember if it was false info or not but i have heard that alligators are actually incredibly fast in straight lines but cant turn very well so you should zig zag! ive noticed thats how those alligator monsters are acting
This game is my GOTY 2023.
Controller support yet if so is it any good?
nice one
if you like this one, there's an utterly ancient cell shaded wild west game called 'outlaws' ... still one of the better ones after all this time, (and also, retroactively a liam neeson simulator i guess)
Heads-up I think you meant Gloomwood not Gloomhaven
Cheers, I was trying to remember the name of the actual game he mean't to reference. I knwe a ctrl+f in the comments would steer me right.
Still waiting on 1.0 for Gloomwood.
That remenbers me huntshowdown
This makes me think of the old game called blood
I love this game.
Fantastic coverage. Agree with all issues you noted. Melee weapon slot and no inventory hell and I'm all in. Until then, not for me.
wierdly interesting game :o
i would use "we mod" to give yourself unlimited ammo for your weapons so you don't have to cart around any ammo and only that cheat to help with the inventory issue for now.
So... Question does it have allied NPCs? Do you remember when you did the Rogue's Tale review and mentioned the allied dog and even NEUTRAL SNAILS!? That is what made me get it. Neutral or friendly NPCs are everything to me.
I've only played through act 2 but so far no. The only people you meet are vendors/quest givers. In the first act there is one in each of the two spawn areas. For the second act you have one base with a vendor who gives you quests to rescue two more people who end up vending and giving more quests. Most of the story you get comes from the questgivers and the pages you pick up around the map.
The scarcity of NPCs makes sense in a way. The regions the game takes place in are experiencing massive outbreaks of undead and cult activity. The normies have all left, been killed, or converted.
That is a weird (fascinating) pistol where you twist the front for the barrel to load the bullets in an underbarrel tube. I could not find any similar thing on Google, so I wonder if any ever existed. I guess the closest thing are the shotguns where you can load many shells from the underbarrel. (I am no expert nor even gun-nut)
It's called the "Avenger Pistol" in the game. It's considered an experimental handgun that hadn't seen much proliferation, compared to the revolver variety. It first appears in the second act, where you can find regular ones in certain spots of the map or buy a variant one with stats on it. I won't spoil what the stats are, just giving some basic info.
If you're looking for IRL version, you'll probably have best luck with "Front loader pistol".
In Call of Juares: Bound in Blood you'll also be able to find such pistols.
Basically a better Volcanic pistol
it's based on a real pistol, the Volcanic. Basically Smith & Wesson just shrank down their lever-action repeater carbines into pistols, including the loading gate at the front. Something this game *doesn't* depict accurately is that you had to work a lever (which the trigger guard was part of) in order to work the action and move rounds from the tube magazine into the chamber to be fired.
@@unnamedenemy9 OK, thanks for the info. It was really hard to Google that pistol without a name.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcanic_Repeating_Arms#/media/File:Volcanic-Pistol.jpg
I finished what there was of this game 1.5 years ago and wow so much has changed and been added; I really liked the game before definitely going to reinstall
Is it me or do the hit boxes look a bit bullet spongy, even when you look as if you hit the animals didn't stagger or look as if they were hit
Now make a medieval version of this game someone please
Game looks good
wishlisted it might pick it up when it goes out of EA
This looks and sounds like Darkwatch. Ok, I'll give it a try.
