Honestly this was one of my favorite modern day romance dramas. It is much better than something in the rain which had a overbearing extreme mother. The mother's behavior in SITR over shadowed the entire romance and made my ears and head hurt.

Agree. I can't stop watching this one again and again whereas SITR has too many upsetting moments.

I really liked this one, especially the theme of family and single parents. Also glad that they stood up to domestic violence. I agree that the last episodes were very satisfactory in wrapping up the story. SITR on the other hand felt like emotional abuse to me; got me so involved with the main characters' relationship and rooting for them while having to listen to the crazy mean mom! Watching the same mom actress in OSN after SITR was rewarding lol

I loved this drama and Something in the Rain. Your analysis is so good, I want to watch the drama again! I love your consideration of the stairs as a metaphor. I too noticed that and also felt the anticipation of something to come every time the light popped on, with the view of climbing the stairs..after listening to your explication I love this drama even more, thank you! ❤️

thank you so much for reacting to this ! this drama feels like a raw gem to me. i have watched it several time. it feels like i am watching a show about my big sister... the main lead feels like a big sister to me ahah. this show holds a special place in my heart. it's simple, effective, poetic, sometimes overbearing (i really wanted to punch the fathers) but it really teaches you about love and relationship. all the characters are given time to be explore especially Gi Seok and the two main leads who's triangle relationship is so intersting ! i agree that the scene at the bus stop is amazing. though my favorites are to be torned between the strair scene where the main leads decides to be strangers again and the scene in the car when Jiho asked if she allows him to watch her from afar from time to time. this specific scene felt really poetic to me, because so far he has shown he loved her and wanted a relationship and had no reason to not be with her. while she is always drawing a line between them because she is still in a relationship and doesn't know what she wants. she keep on crossing the line she drew herself and cannot resist her love for him thus her reponse wich i found beautiful: she refuses to let him observe her because if he hides himself from her she wouldn't be able to watch him from afar either.
this show is great, has the same nostalgic feeling mixed with wholesome but realistic story lines as My Mister and Prison Playbook. i didn't like the storyline and characters of "something in the rain" so i am so happy that "one spring night" exist so i can experience this type of Kdrama with a story and characters i love. also if you haven't watched Be Melodramatic i really advice you to. it's a superb show!

I watched this drama several times to catch acting and directorial nuances. I never thought Dinosaurs were used in those several scenes with a purpose other thanjust being the child's interest. That was a brilliant nuance you picked out right there. Great review. Thank you so much.

The person that directed this also directed another drama called Secret Love Affair. It came out in 2014. Its similar yet different to this drama and Something In the Rain in terms of visual tone. The writing, great acting, and use of the score really make for a unique viewing experience.

Hi great reads/videos. I recently saw one spring night/ something in th rain. As you mentioned th director could/is th same. Thinking back of th music part _ it did work well fr one spring night, yet I agree that became rather uninspiring fr something in th rain.
Yet th point I would like to make is th acting of th main male character. It is an exact copy. Which rates his acting skills rather less/amateur kind of approach. Looking fwd to yr views. Third, I like that fact that you point out th repeated shooting of th staircase during all th episodes of one spring night. I would like to add that it provides or add to getting closer & comforting as a viewer to th couple. From an outsider watching to a sense of routine/predictability a getting more familiar with th main leads.. in a short spam of time.

I was very upset when Gi-Seok took out Ji-ho ankle! Except for the idiot 'friend' that worked with Gi-seok - I wanted to smack him so many times. lolI watched both SITR & OSN, let me commend the acting of Jung-in's mother in both these Kdramas; so believable in both roles! Also, I need to commend the actor that played Si-hoon. I really hated him in OSN but then I saw him as the boyfriend of a dying woman in '39' & I loved him!!! Such great acting in the Kdramas.

this is such a good, in-depth look at this series. a lot of these details I really appreciated but couldn't explain why. the bus spot scene particularly and there wasn't even a lot of dialogue, it looked so perfect. thanks for this video. helped put the right words together. xx

Oh man Ive waited for this 1...After watching Something in The Rain, this was defnitely next up....I didn't know they had the same Director..Which makes sense, cause its so similar, especially the soundtrack. Will make sure to check our more of his work....Definitely think Something in The Rain is better but this is great to.....I found it hilarious that the mother in this series is the same actor as in SOmething The Rain, but the character is the complete oppposite. That just made me laugh...Although i kinda feel like there wasnt any closure with the Dad though.

wow, I came across your channel to see the Love and Fortune review and now I'm going through all your videos. I really like and appreciate how you analyze things, and especially since I'm Korean, it's very interesting to see how other people see these k-dramas. Quite frankly, for Korean television, most people just focus on the romance of kdramas and not really anything else in depth. A lot of Korean people just watch them for the actors (because of their popularity), and/or for their love stories. So seeing your thoughts and in-depth analysis is really interesting. I appreciate how detailed you are with all your videos. You just earned a new subscriber :))

A good review makes you curious about the subject (movie/tv-series) and convince you to see it. A great review lets you find new angles in an already watched show and makes you think about it long after the last episode and often compels you to re-watch it to experience it through new and/or evolved eyes.
This... this is an AMAZING review!

Love the spoilers warning...ottabealaw! The parents played great roles, wonderfully acted. Not all likeable, for sure, one being guilty of domestic violence ... very not good. The Mom's were absolutely outstanding! One thing well demonstrated was the idea of the husband being king of his castle ... while the wife is the queen. It really needs to be remembered: the Queen is the most powerful piece on the chessboard. Divorce is never a wonderful option. It is definitely sometimes the only rational option. Mom and Dad really are the most important people in a child's life. You didn't get into the OST or the cinematography. Both were marvelous. The OST fit the script, it enhanced the show immeasurably, really really good stuff. One nit about Korean TV generally is that many shows seem to start very slowly, and build. The denouement is stuffed to the brim with unnecessary scenes, dragging things out too much. This show had neither. All around Goodness, everywhere.

I don't know how you do it but your reviews are just perfect and give such a deep inside to a show that was very simple and basic in my mind that staircase and dinosaurs analysis was so on point that i just can't believe.
I found the show just ok because my problem with this director's shows is that the FLs do really stupid and take questionable actions to such straight forward scenes like her accepting the ring from her ex reasoning respect for their past relationship slash her feeling guilty i mean thats absurd.
p.s - I really want your review on secret love affair the show and would keep on asking for it 😂

There was some characters that just pissed me off, the female lead, the elder sister, and their father. But what I couldn't stand was the unnecessary extra long pauses of silence; was that supposed to be for dramatic effect? All it had me wanting to do was press the fast-forward button. Other characters like the male lead and his friends and the middle sister were enough to keep me engaged. I preferred secret affair the directors earlier work to this High Schoolish presentation.
