The traditional, or the original, Chinese Shar-Pei was the bone mouth one. The meaty mouth was mainly a western creation. The more wrinkles he has, the more health problems (skin) he will have.
Tara's Shar Pei in Clear Water FL is the only registered traditional shar pei breeder in the US. I have two female pei from her. Cindy Churchward is an amazing breeder.
I got my Blonde Bone Mouth Shar Pei off the street. I think she may have wondered out of Compton, CA. Have had her 5 years and she is my pride and joy, She is by far, the GREATEST protector of the house. They are in California. I even located her possible brother--know some folks how also found one in Compton--bone mouth.
I own two traditional working shar pei dogs in Ireland. They are serious guard dogs and very fearsome to unwelcome strangers but extremely loyal and loving towards family!
The meaty mouth Chinese Shar-Pei guard as well. They work better in a male/female pair. The male sounds the alarm and the female stays silent. One of my uncles came in without telling my grandparents, who bred and loved Chinese Shar-Pei, and if he had moved an inch, the female would have snapped his neck. She was up on the stairs, tensed and staring at him. The male was up close growling. My grandpa had to get close and hug his son to show the dogs that he wasn't a threat. A silent Shar-Pei is more dangerous when they guard. They would kill an intruder.
Sean Flynn I have one full blooded bone mouth shar pei for 10 years he was my best hunting dog I used him as a hog dog he was the strongest dog I had he would bring down wild boar classes size in very little time
I grew up with Chow-Chow and they have my heart. I started fostering/adopting Shar-Pei 20 years ago because of how similar they are to Chows. I just adopted my first Traditional Bone Mouth Shar-Pei and she's awesome. ♥️
I'm glad someone made this video because my dog is mixed with Pit and Shar Pei. I always thought it was odd that she doesn't really look much like the meaty mouth shar peis, you can kind of see it but not much. She looks a LOT more like the working variation though.
(I made the first comment halfway through the video) by the way, my dog is red nose pit mixed with shar pei, but I might actually be able to get a hold of the breeders if they have the working style of shar pei. I adopted my dog from someone who got her straight from the breeder, I could see if they still have their contact info.
TimothyTheFirst i have the same breed brother great dogs arnt they? Best of both breeds in the one dog. Hope yours gives you as much happiness as my big man
I have a Bone mouth Shar pei in California.Pure bred. Looks more like a american pitbull terrier but with loose skin, purple tongue, small ears. He can jump 6 feet high, lots of energy. Fastest dog in the dog park.
Wow, I wasn't expecting a Shar Pei vid. Such an interesting breed. I hope you can find a bone-mouth Shar Pei owner or breeder, I'm very interested in learning more about them. Awesome video as always. 😊
You would LOVE my 1st SharPei He was an amazing dog. My SharPei came from CT. My momma came from NH. I did show my 1st, Bo. He won many shows. I live in country. I've had SharPeis for about 17 yrs. I had 1 liter. I had 6 puppies, 5 different colors, horse & brush coat
I adopted a shelter dog who I think is a bone mouth mix of some sort. She’s smaller than the standard breed so I’m thinking she has some sort of terrier in her. She is an absolute sweetheart and guards her people fiercely, though she rarely barks.
We have a bone mouth and a meat mouth. They are both great guard dogs. Both equally diligent workers in guarding their home. No better breed in my mind.
Hello, I am looking for a bone mouth as ours just crossed over at 12 yrs old recently. Do you know of any in the states? Thank you so much. I love the breed so much
I got my brown female bone mouth from the pound in Houston. She had been a stray, just 1 year old. I thought it was a Pitbull mix because I didn't know about the 2 types. She loyal, active, protective, affectionate, and I can see the huntress in her at times. She can also be stubborn. I regret that they sprayed her at the pound. I didn't know how rare she was
we adopted a rescued Shar-pei, our second rescued Shar-pei, she must of been a "bone mouth", is that what you called it. we just assumed she was a mix but she looked exactly like the one you showed. she was a blue, very little wrinkles and built like a Mack truck. she ran the (her) perimeter around our front 20 acres every morning and every night. great guard dog but the only harm she could do was maybe lick you to death. one person dog but is protective of whole family. great with kids and other dogs but she liked to chase my cats up trees. she was from the Cleveland area. I'm from Wisconsin. my husband and I are debating adopting a rescue again. we went thru Shar-pei Savers last time but they don't have a big selection right now. if anyone hears of one in my area could you let me know. thanks
I have a lillac bone mouth shar pei. And what i can say is this, very stubborn, very smart, very loyal, clings to one person, loves to hunt, loves to run, hates to be dirty, hates water puddles, hates the rain, loves the snow but cant be in cold for too long. Very calm, and assertive, stand-offish as well. Needs to be socialized with other animals more than people. If you need any videos or questions bro just contact me back
Thanks for posting this! i actually have one of the bone mouth variety!! his name is Montana and he is now four years old and let me tell you, THE BEST DOG!! we actually found him driving by the house where there was a whole litter of puppies, we got the only male. His parents both on site and definitely were of the old working variety "bone mouth", normally i wouldn't trust the word of a random owner or person on this, but i just happened to work as a vet tech for nearly 7 years and did dog grooming for five after that, i have worked with dogs for 12+ years and pei's just happen to be a very misunderstood breed that i have an absolute passion for, and would like to see more of a return to the working variety of this breed. There is shockingly very few informational video's on this breed, i wish i could help you on this somehow as i would be the first person to watch it!! THANKS AGAIN.
Hello, I am looking for a bone mouth as ours just crossed over at 12 yrs old recently. Do you know of any in the states? Thank you so much. I love the breed so much
All sharpei types can be working dogs. I imagine since it's been two years from the last comments I see here - I presume that you found a traditional sharpei. Pei is short for sharpei & trad or tradi is short for traditional pei. If you are still interested; I personally know two breeders in the US who are breeding traditional bone mouth pei from China. One is the son of a very well known tradi in China. They are breeding the trads with bone mouth pei who have traditional pei from a couple generations back in their bloodlines - so they are part traditional & western pei. They are breeders who are working to get a good healthy line of traditional pei established - it's a program that takes a good while - but they are dedicated to being part of the survival of the traditional pei. Blessings & pei are the best breed ever. I've been owned by, one or more pei at a time, since the mid 80s & am quite knowledgeable about the breed. In the 80s I bred pei for a short period. Back then the trad pei were still showing up in breedings. Most breeders didn't know what they were and were very often culled from the litter - (euthanized). Such a shame!! Anyway - didn't mean to go on so - but I have such a love for the breed - and can't seem to help myself. Hope you see my comments.
I found a pure bred bone mouth Shar Pei on the streets of Compton-Carson. (unreal) She is my pride and joy. Abused so a challenge to acclimate with my Ridgebacks. She is a love bug, super protector, guard dog that does not play and acts like a hound dog. Don't go to China--I am not a proponent of breeding, but my groomer is a former Shar Pie owner and showed her dogs. They are here.
Not sure if you have gone to the Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America but the Meaty mouth is also a very affective guard dog. The Hippo/Meaty mouth gives them an advantage and in fighting China they had meaty and bone mouth.
Just picked up a working style Shar Pei down here in San Diego. 10 weeks old and his a very heavy built strong little male. Unfortunately, the breeder is moving out of state I believe in a few days.
Have you ever had any luck finding bone mouth Shar Peis in the United States? They are such beautiful dogs. My rescue dog is a super mutt but turned out to be mostly (bone mouth) Shar Pei.
I love sharpei. I own two. when they are puppies they are super wrinkly l. but once they grow they lose alot of wrinkles. and unusually only the face will stay
damn they ruining alot of breeds example the Rottweiler I've been seeing more and more small mouth rotts and these exotics that cause breathing problems etc etc
i have a bone mouth, and people are always asking what she's mixed with. she came from somewhere (she's a rescue) though, in the central valley of california. someone is breeding them!
I have a traditional Shar Pei that I rescued from a shelter. She is an amazing animal. I wish I knew her background and where she came from. I feel very blessed to have her though♡
Thank you! I had my Genghis from 1995 to 2005. Bone mouth, horse coat. Best dog I've ever had. I hate what is being done to the breed. You chose some good looking dogs here to feature. Not traditional but not over the top either.
Hey .... just a thought. Contact one of the Sharpei rescue groups. Should be able to find you an interview contact for Traditional Type and always looking to promote the breed.
I have an AKC Shar-pei low rolls and folds lean good gate is a livestock Guardian dog and house guard dog. He works hard and is a very good boy. Sadly the original dogs no longer are found out of China. Maybe talk to a kennel there or have a friend translate over the internet or vid chat them. Also their is English speaking people in China in sure you and talk to old breed breeders that way
I have a bone mouth girl and she is an amazing dog. Her instincts are clearly defined in terms of guarding and prey drive. She and my female terrier mix work well as a pair. She's shy of strangers which I like - but I often have to train people not to f*cking corner a dog and try to make them be friends. I have a video of my bone mouth playing with a younger, severe meat mouth (now deceased).
Zeke, if you’re still there, I have a Guzui, an original Bone Mouth traditional Chinese Shar Pei. Please contact me back so we can connect. His name is Bo, he’s the real deal!
very fine, i like look you fantastic movies, very interesstand, 👍👍👍,maybe i learn somethings for my dog at home, - I hope in future i can see more Videos from bullmastiff thanks
I have a seven month old bone mouth that looks a lot like the one in this video. He is my third Shar Pei and first bone mouth, you are right there is definitely difference. Hit me up if you would like for me to send pictures or would like more details. Great video!
Hello, I am looking for a bone mouth as ours just crossed over at 12 yrs old recently. Do you know of any in the states? Thank you so much. I love the breed so much
Ronan boy I lived in England for 7 years, those staffies are mean. My rescue pei (she was a true bone mouth traditional) was breed with a staffy to use in the fighting ring up in Birmingham UK. My poor girl was all tore up and pregnant when we got her. She physically healed but the mental scars were very deep.
but people don't get it twisted the bone jaw pei is a game dog is not a show dog like the soft wrinkle one's they have a big drive just like a pit bull that's why you don't see them in the u.s.a the akc changed the standard and made the softer Shar pei with all the wrinkles for show but the true Shar pei is the bone jaw pei not the watered-down one's Akc shows people do the research and u will see what a real Shar pei looks like have a nice day people
Ash Winder it's very sad! The meaty mouth or western version tend to have more problems. I vowed only to get rescues but my heart couldn't take seeing them suffer, I want to be part of the solution not the problem. I, along with TARA's Shar Pei are about to breed a litter of traditional pei's from the Dali line. I believe will turn out some very clever and strong pups. Do you have a FB page that I can share you when they arrive?
I have a 70 lb. Black shar pei with black tongue 10 years old looking for a black puppy. My Bullwrinkle is my pride an joy best guard dog ever can leave my car run an know its going to still be there when I come out of the store lol excellent when it comes to search
Should do one on real old school bullies dogs that are closer related to the APBT and am staff crosses that started back in the 90s would be good to see the working style of the American bullies
I have a Bone Mouth x American Pitbull very muscular and a great guard dog he's a big boy. 42kg just below waist height. He's not neutered so he's a serial rapist and can be a little aggressive towards in his face dogs. I love the mix a real hybrid mongrel lol
why not do a video on the shar pei for the fans that follow your page..i understand what you saying but we are the fans and the videos is the reason we follow you
You should be going to Hong Kong instead of China for more true knowledge of Shar Pei. The true authority and advocate is the Hong Kong gentleman called Matgo Law. He was the one asking breeders in different parts of the world (I think he firstly asked the American) to help revive this almost extinct breed back in the 70's. I bought my traditional (what you call bone mouth type) Shar Pei from his kennel back in the late 80's and brought them back to Canada. Apparently he's still actively promoting the breed around the world. I think his kennel is called Down Home Kennel or something. His dogs are truly working type with very typical Chinese character ( aloof to strangers but dead loyal to his family.)
I actually own a bone moth shar pei. The breeder was going to dump her on the side of the road because her ears pricked and he couldn't get an insane amount of money for her. 😕
I have sharpeis! My male sharpeis weren't just cuddly! The father & son would fight! I had to keep them separate. My father sharpei was more traditional sharpei. He didn't have a ton of wrinkles. But he was 65lbs and ALL muscle! I had to use wooden spoon to separate the two of them. Unfortunately I lost my father, Bo March of this year. He was 8 yrs old. I lost a part of my soul that day. I do have the mother, Levi Blue Genes and their son, Spike. They love walks, hunting rats and mice (I have farm across street and rats come for seed from bird feeders). They have killed rats. You can find the more traditional sharpeis in American. U just have to look. They are a lot of work! No cats either! They will kill them. They chase squirrels also. GREAT protectors, lovers and loyal friends! But YOU USE know ALL health issues!!! Have a vet that knows breed. Plus know the food they can eat. Not too much protein. Love fish & duck! NO RED MEAT!!!
Zeke, check out the Central Asian Shepard. There is a breeder in Cali. Alabaiusa.com it's a working dog that protects families and their stock from wolves and bears
Yoel Dawit their purple tongues were meant to ward off evil spirits. I've had both chow and pei. Chow are crazy and hard to train in my opinion. The bone mouth traditionals are smart, and their horse coat deters biting as their fur is thick and the ends are sharpe.
@@MrYodeezy They werent even really two distinct "breeds" in tge modern sense until relatively recently, within roughly the last century or so. If you find a picture of a smooth-coat chow from 1904, it looks remarkably like a bone mouth shar pei, just a bit less pit-ish. Even has similar ears
You haven't found a breeder producing bone mouths because there isnt't.The classification of "working bonemouth" traditional shar pei vs the "western" as you called them type of shar peis is missleading. There is only one type of shar pei, standards are pretty clear and mentioned on FCI website. Now the breed has changed over the years no doubt but same has happened with pretty much every breed we know this day to some extent.Any shar pei can be a working dog, short coat have a bigger tendency to that and thats it.
You could say there is only 1 standard because they recognized what they wanted to recognize. There are still traditional Chow Chows around, even though they don't meet the modern standard doesn't mean they aren't Chow Chow.
fuckin dog shows messed up alot if breeds... people think they are breeding to a breeds standards ... they are not they are breeding to someones likes... Not the true breed standards... Boxer , pugs , bulldogs , mastiffs , bloodhound, bull terrier ,alot of breeds are not the same... i think thats ANIMAL CRUELTY.... I think if a dog is bred 4 a certain task , its only right we use it 4 that ask... Thats not animal cruelty.. breeding unhealthy dog is.... check out my channel
I have 3 shar peis. The male has the bone mouth but extremely heavy in weight and muscle, the female is wrinkly and very gentle. They are not trained but extremely protective! Do not have visitors over as they may bite if they feel you are in danger.
Ash Winder That's probably not why they didn't know... lol Some Chinese people don't know what one looks like. Just cause they are Chinese, doesn't mean they will know what a Shar-pei looks like. I'm taken aback with your comment , saying they probably think its a mongrel... Really dude? The meaty mouth Shar-pei looks nothing like a mongrel. Get wise and stop hating on what you don't like. Peace
I own two traditional working shar pei dogs in Ireland. They are serious guard dogs and very fearsome to unwelcome strangers but extremely loyal and loving towards family!
The traditional, or the original, Chinese Shar-Pei was the bone mouth one. The meaty mouth was mainly a western creation.
The more wrinkles he has, the more health problems (skin) he will have.
exactly. it's like breeds get ruined when they go to the US. Bulldogs and German sheperds come to mind.
@@Amidat AKC german shepherds arent bad, you usually see pictures of them in a stack position, they dont have slopped backs
and they have american showlines and american working lines
but unfortunatelt I cant say the same about shar peis and bulldogs
Tara's Shar Pei in Clear Water FL is the only registered traditional shar pei breeder in the US. I have two female pei from her. Cindy Churchward is an amazing breeder.
Hi Lori - I mentioned above that I know a couple people breeding for the trad pei - Cindy is one of them - I didn't give the names. 😄

Zakle they are not that powerful lol 😂, I'd be surprised if one could even takedown a fully grown man
I think they are a bit too small for that! but it might be true in their minds.
Sean Flynn I have one full blooded bone mouth shar pei for 10 years he was my best hunting dog I used him as a hog dog he was the strongest dog I had he would bring down wild boar classes size in very little time
Twice his size
Actually one of the best and strongest dogs I ever had and I've had american bulls also for hog dogs
Hey Zeke! I love your emphasis on the bone mouth Shar Pei. I hope you find a way to produce that documentary!

I have a 70 lb. Black shar pei with black tongue 10 years old looking for a black puppy. My Bullwrinkle is my pride an joy best guard dog ever can leave my car run an know its going to still be there when I come out of the store lol excellent when it comes to search
I'm with you as far as the bone nose, my boy is not pure and he is unsure who is dad was LOL but is very much a Sharpei
I have a working bonemouth.
Please go to China and get that video for us.
Bone mouth...better temperament...more intelligent...less health problems
do a video on dutch shpeherd and belgian malinois
Still some good looking dogs
Should do one on real old school bullies dogs that are closer related to the APBT and am staff crosses that started back in the 90s would be good to see the working style of the American bullies
We have them in Europe. Working ones
i have a bone mouth and she was wrinkly as a baby and i picked her up in LA
I own a bone mouth shar- pei and he has a completely different temperament then the meat mouth
Just like any breed there is a reason for the looks, regardless of other ppl options, research
Video on Shar pei and the bone mouth.
I have a Bone Mouth x American Pitbull very muscular and a great guard dog he's a big boy. 42kg just below waist height. He's not neutered so he's a serial rapist and can be a little aggressive towards in his face dogs. I love the mix a real hybrid mongrel lol
zeake when would you do a video on kangals?
why not do a video on the shar pei for the fans that follow your page..i understand what you saying but we are the fans and the videos is the reason we follow you
All sharpei pups are full of wrinkles, they smooth out as they become adults.
All shar pei like to work, especially guarding
Its just in their nature
another name for them in China is the bone jaw pei
You should be going to Hong Kong instead of China for more true knowledge of Shar Pei. The true authority and advocate is the Hong Kong gentleman called Matgo Law. He was the one asking breeders in different parts of the world (I think he firstly asked the American) to help revive this almost extinct breed back in the 70's. I bought my traditional (what you call bone mouth type) Shar Pei from his kennel back in the late 80's and brought them back to Canada. Apparently he's still actively promoting the breed around the world. I think his kennel is called Down Home Kennel or something. His dogs are truly working type with very typical Chinese character ( aloof to strangers but dead loyal to his family.)
hong Kong is part of china
that doesn't make sense since Hong Kong is China... how do you think the dog got there?
I actually own a bone moth shar pei. The breeder was going to dump her on the side of the road because her ears pricked and he couldn't get an insane amount of money for her. 😕
Jenny I'd love to see a picture :-)
my suggestion would be to make a video on a Belgian Malinois.
Good stuff
Lots of bone mouth shar pei in Hawaii
TheaLynn K yeh yeh.... My pup is a bone mouth.
Zeke, check out the Central Asian Shepard. There is a breeder in Cali. Alabaiusa.com it's a working dog that protects families and their stock from wolves and bears
What is a “Working Shar Pei? Does the producer of this video realise that there are no dogs in China, yet alone the ancient Shar Pei.
mine dogs dont like sharpeis never liked them i dont know why
Do one on the chow chow
Sono cani meravigliosi
Respectfully; It's called "meat mouth" NOT "meaty mouth."
The traditional pei have a "bone mouth."
Bone mouth all day my boy Zeke
HMU for an interview thsnjs
What u think of the Chow Chow
+Yoel Dawit personally I don't line hairy dogs. But I'll do some research and see if it's something I'd want to do.
+BullyBadAssTV Just a random question... They remind me of each other. I think they were both once Chinese fighting dogs.
very temperamental... but I want one again just so I can name him Chow Yun-Fat
Me and my brother have shar peis bro get at me
I second tibetan mastiffs !
You don't know what you talking about! AKC shar pei is not a purebred shar pei!
There are variations of the breed. There is a Horse coat shar pei, a medium coat and a bear coat (not recognized by AKC).
@@TheMaFamily88 respectfully - you are incorrect - AKC registered sharpei are full bred sharpei.
@@eddyaleman2925 horse coat - brush coat - bear coat 😊
fuckin dog shows messed up alot if breeds... people think they are breeding to a breeds standards ... they are not they are breeding to someones likes...
I own both my Snapchat is rubenj432 my working class sharpei I’m mulan she’s so smart amaze me so much every day
i like alotta dog breeds but no matter how hard i try to like this one..i just cant get over how ugly it is.. erk!
Never been a fan of the meatmouth ones either. I quite like the bonemouth ones though
Aww no ugly animals just ugly people !
I have 3 shar peis. The male has the bone mouth but extremely heavy in weight and muscle, the female is wrinkly and very gentle. They are not trained but extremely protective! Do not have visitors over as they may bite if they feel you are in danger.
Would you recommend this dog to someone new to dogs?
I met a Chinese couple and showed them a photo of my Shar pei and they didn't know what it was?
Ash Winder
That's probably not why they didn't know... lol
Some Chinese people don't know what one looks like.
Peace
prestonian23 just because they are Chinese doesn't mean that they will know every single dog breed from china dumbass.
Looks different on a plate
@@theoneandonly668 chairman Mao got rid of all the dogs, that's why they didn't know what sort of dog it was.
@@prestonian23 that's silly since dogs still exist there... and plus there are millions of Americans who couldn't tell you what a border collie is
I own two traditional working shar pei dogs in Ireland. They are serious guard dogs and very fearsome to unwelcome strangers but extremely loyal and loving towards family!
