Derek Watkins makes everyone sound good here. He just pumped that Granada solo, big fat sound from bottom to top - man he just was one of the best, RIP.

I would say this concert was recorded in about 1978 judging by the band uniforms and hairstyles. The band line-upfrom left to right is Derek Watkins (Trumpet), Hakan Nyquist (Trumpet), Stan Sulzmann (Tenor Saxophone), Nick Hauck (Bass Trombone, Ole Holmquist (Tenor Trombone), Detlef Surmann (Tenor Trombone, Karl Hermann Luer (Tenor Saxophone), Robert Lanese (Trumpet), Unknown Trumpet (cannot think of his name) I didn't see the pianist but assumes it was Gunther Platzek, Benny Bendorff (Bass Guitar), Terry Jenkins (Drums), Jim Sullivan (Electric Guitar), Barry Reeves (Percussion).

Rick Kiefer was a regular trumpeter at this time although It doesn't look like him next to Bob Lanese. Doesn't detract though from the sparkling, precise playing.

It's one thing to do it in a recording studio but how w did they always manage to sound so tight in their live performances??

Aside from a very small handful (Wayne Bergeron, Harry Kim), no one really plays the trumpet like this. Sax loss of a great style.
