    Nothing beats seeing a job done a couple of years before. It makes one realize the importance that experience has brought with it. Every job finished and delivered, one tends to think, things couldn't be done better, but of course anything can be bettered and as components and materials are improved by suppliers then one raises the bar. Your bar is now so high George that you will need a pole vault to surpass yourself and your team of craftsmen.

    Thanks, George. This video brought memories. “Meeting” the Carey’s and following the collaboration process. I have been following Carey on since they left NJ for FL. Unfortunately for them, they were unable to do very much vanabonding due to the lockdown, and spent time with friends until they were able to travel to somewhat limited places. WOW! Those were some stressful times. I am happy for you and the growth of Humble Road since van #2. I am looking forward to seeing the refit and tune up video.

    First off - HUGE fans of your builds and channel, plus BIG fans of Carey on Vagabonds! I've been with you since the original upgrade of your van in your driveway.
    Of all the methods you employ in your processes, the full-size cardboard mock-ups is the absolute best, in my opinion. I followed your lead when we built our van and now, six years later we haven't wanted to, and do not desire to change a thing. We're out in ours about 7-8 months per year. Lovin' the life!!!

So, when your dream modifications become more troublesome than it's worth, and money and maybe time isn't an issue. Have George build your dream van and sell the one you have to some lucky soul at an after market price.😊

    RVs often look sleek & tightened down when the christening day arrives. The problem 2 to 3 years later, many of them look haggard & warped, with fading, cracks & misshapen seams, etc..
    It is amazing how the Humble Road experience leaves an owner with so many designs which look as good as that 1st day when the champagne bottle was popped.
    This fact represents every one of a thousand days prior, where the van also looked as solid. Testament, and reputation….

    I look forward to seeing your dog crates and the built in features. I have a 80/20 side by side set built as a bench behind my drivers seat. We have small dogs though. The use of lift off hinges with the bottom having a slight offset higher has worked great to remove the doors and allow the dogs to have more floor space while we are parked. Spray painted expanded metal sheets has worked well as panels to allow airflow. Perforated aluminum sheets/panels with round holes would have been ideal though. If I ever build a new van or modify my galley then I would add a slide or fold out dog gate for the sliding door.

    Amir and the Dogs in the Stallion. Nice van! This is a muscle van, heh, heh. Best way to travel with dogs, no flying hassles, or stress for the dogs. I can see custom vans coming up in future for all sorts of animal travel, cats, birds, reptiles. The Sportsmobile Roadtrek was very popular as it had dog cages in the back, a feature that pet owners were grateful for. I can see RVs being custom made for Saudi Arabian sheikhs for their falcons. Falconry is an elitist sport, and some trained falcons sell for over USD $66K each. They travel first class on planes along with their owner. No caged baggage class for them! Imagine if you had a line of cages for these birds you could export to install in any van out there. All 80/20, with perches and disassembled in small packages. Nice. They could travel into the desert with their falcons in RVs with cages, to engage in contests or training with HR branded custom cages assembled on site.
    What a beautiful van, the Vagabond! The walnut turned into teak wood, gorgeous! I remembered the bathroom doors soon as you showed the interior before you spoke about them. Dave wanted them to be half open like the Roadtrek, so he had more room inside the shower, and you managed to do that. Very clever design by Alex. I also love the ceiling concept of a central wiring access set of panels. It breaks up the monotony of the ceiling, is a great design feature, and so functional. Another brilliant concept by you. I also like the slim, light sliding doors of the bedroom cabinets. A very Japanese Tansu element and so pleasing and functional. Get inspiration from Japanese Tansu cabinets. They are the ultimate in lightness and minimalism. They were designed modular so in the event of all too common fires on those wood houses in old Edo (Tokyo), people could grab each section by a handle and run outside with their possessions.
    The twin bike trays are very good garage design, George. I also suspect that the roof rack has a sliding extension for the kayak. Wouldn't it be great, if it slanted down like an attic ladder and the kayak could be rolled off the roof and slide down that rail instead of be lifted up and down. What an innovation that would be! Amazing you can pack so much into one van.
    So, 3M-90 Spray adhesive is no good. Thank you for the tip! Please tell us which ones are better? I have to redo a vinyl stool and would be very grateful for a recommendation from you. Materials and supplies, this is so important to know good from bad.
    It is always sad when your videos end. I could look at them all day and marvel at the artistry in each. Happy Sunday, George!

    'They' make long DC convection heaters now that would be fine under that desk unit. I bought 200w units, 4 each for my cabin during the shoulder months which have served fine for 2+ years. Recently I noticed newer ones were much longer and more wattage and some with frames designed to transfer the heat to the mounting surface. I haven't performed measurements but there may be a significant degradation of performance (Up to 20%?) after the first season but if one is simply using them as a supplement source of heat they are nice, quiet, super efficient and simple perk to a cabin.

    Great video. Examination of a product after a long term of use is a great opportunity for lessons learned. Admire your honestly and transparency showing the "failures" in detail on camera...no other builders would do that...likewise your offer to "make it right". If you don't mind me asking, what is the approximate price range for these builds and how do your Contracts work....is it a fixed Lump Sum agree price for a defined scope, or is it all labor hours x shop $$ rate plus cost of materials ?

    Um George, are you worried about corrosion in the line for the passive heating? I know if you mix two Different metals in a computer water cooling Loop that you get some corrosion and gunk in the system. the Computer system also uses a glycol fluid, but I'm not sure it's the same type of glycol that's used in the radiant heat loops.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  10 місяців тому +3

      My systems are procured from the automotive world. They are designed to handle the glycol. My fresh water never touches the heat exchanger.

    Love your videos.
    I entertained even if you are just cooking an omelet in your rig.
    I watched this on a UA-cam video and thought it was a clever idea you may consider implementing in your builds:
    In build, the owner required that in addition to a typical 30 shore power connection, he wanted also like a Tesla EV charger port to charge the house batteries.
    For a person who travel cross country, they can find EV charging ports. I assume Tesla installs the best chargers if the other standard charger is required bcs Tesla don't service non-Tesla vehicles or RVs, then the other will do.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  10 місяців тому

      In theory, that is a very clever idea. I am not familiar with the charge rates (AMPS) of those vehicle chargers. Our house batteries have a specific, and maybe too low charging limit for those and you may cook your house battery. Some research is required, but again; brilliant idea.
