  • I. The Realm of Dust
From her small pod, Science Officer Mallory N'Dour witnessed the catastrophic demise of space station Unique VI, statically positioned in one of the farthest areas of the known universe. With a massive explosion, a hot and glaring plasma ball tore the local vacuum apart as the station completely vanished. Space and time appeared to boast their mouths wide open, pulling the little pod violently into the maw of this incomprehensible cosmic anomaly. Plunging further towards the cruel grimaces of the menacing rift, Officer N'Dour lost all control and consciousness.
Upon regaining her senses, a warm but unusually oppressive confinement enveloped her, as she found herself immersed in an endlessly floating stream of beautifully shimmering dust. She sensed many particles of this stream wafting gently through her body, through her mind, and even through her soul; each of them blurring the boundaries of reality. What was the true nature of this meandering dust? Her finely tuned instruments were whirring with this cosmic enigma. The sensors indicated that nothing ought to be present here, not even the flickering data stream itself that was constantly rushing over the computer screen. A closer inspection of the shifting shapes around, within, and through her body, including the regular scans in the nearby vicinity as well as the regular scans into the deep space, contradicted the common theories of space, time, and gravity. In the realm of physics, reality is defined as a four-dimensional continuum of space and time, precisely pinpointing every single event. However, in this peculiar realm, only one dust particle seemed to permeate every pinpoint simultaneously, changing its physical properties independently at any spot at any time. The simple result of those complex calculations might have helped to solve the enigma of the steady shifting stream, yet all sensors also indicated that this very particle was nowhere to be found: no continuum, no pinpoints, no nothing. An entire realm full of dust! An entire universe full of nothing! This devastating insight left N'Dour very confused and concerned. She suddenly felt a tremendous inner turmoil, as well as an overwhelming sense of menace that she had never experienced before, questioning the very essence of existence.
Almost beyond the horizon of this singularity, Officer N'Dour made the decision to doubt the computer's data readings due to the obvious contradictions, which she swiftly dismissed as cosmic interferences of this peculiar place. Then she hurried to reconfigure and reboot the computer, switched to manual navigation, and was hoping to exit this confining nightmare very, very soon.

Whow, Markus... What a beautiful piece! Using so much noise is courageous but ultimately really effective. At first, I thought of looking at a strange star through a telescope and hearing the electromagnetic noise it makes. Then I understood that the noise is all that Dust permeating everything, pressing against everything. Perhaps the hero in your story haa discovered what Dark Matter is made of but would have preferred not to know. Like the Dust in Philip Pullman's novels, except this one is constraining while that is liberating. Beautiful - thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your nice comment, Jorge.
Maybe our hero will be quite happy not to get completely sucked in by a black hole.
      Have a good night!

Wonderful recording, Markus! It perfectly matches the story. I can sense the permeating dust that goes undetected by the equipment. And the moments when the synths become louder are like glimpses of light. Very well done!

Thank you very much for your nice comment, dear Alex.
Despite the fact that all the music on this channel was produced on this very planet, you may find many other soundtracks here that sound almost outerworldly.
I hope you enjoyed the little story in the description of this video, too.

@@ccjmusicActually this text is about a woman, who doesn't want to fall in love, whereby dust is the symbol for love in this narration.
