As a new Toyota design, the Yaris Cross has a 30 mm higher ground clearance, which makes it undoubtedly created for off-road adventures. When your car has lots of ground clearance, there's a lesser tendency for the vehicle's underbelly to hit the ground hard.
With a higher ride height, there's a greater tendency to see over vehicles better. Since you have more visibility, you make better decisions while driving, which helps a safe experience.
Note that the Yaris's higher ride height increases its center of gravity, which ultimately makes it easier for the vehicle to roll over. If you need a car for its speed, you should go for the complete opposite of the Yaris Cross. Go for a vehicle with a low center of gravity.
Based on the ground clearance height, the Yaris Cross is a great option for off-road driving.
Other significant factors to consider when going for an off-road vehicle are the approach, departure, and ramp over the vehicle's angles.
Generally, AWDs are lower than 4WDs in their approach, departure, and ramp over angles. This fact makes them less favorable for off-road adventures.

I liked the commentary, was gonna pass at first due to it only being marketing b-roll footage but your info and pacing kept me listening. I didn’t find the off-road alternatives relevant. I imagine this is first and foremost a city car, and its targeted at millennials and zetters that wanna get away from their city lives every so often. Alternatives that target the same people would have been nice to know. The information you provided assured me that it is more than capable to not get stuck in regular unpaved roads and hills.

It’s probably less vulnerable to poor quality road maintenance, such as potholes and the like, compared with some models with tight ground clearance, even if it’s not a ‘real’ off road car.
