I'm actually not since I shoot with a Fujifilm X-t4 and have no clue what versatile lens to get or maybe an adapter for the lenses I already had for my canon 80D. If you have the answer that would be great!! 🥺😩
With 26 years experience as a photographer, mostly in the advertising space, I find that the 24-70 and the 70-200 are my Swiss Army Knives and this is what I have stuck to for about 15 years out of 26 years. Simply cannot go wrong with quality glass. I think that Sony, Canon and Nikon all make great professional glass and it's simply a matter of preference. All the best.
@@reneefariasphoto40 I was replying to Armaan that even if you cover that focal length aperture would vary for different lenses . The lens with bigger aperture comes with bigger price .
As a person who's recently started their first full time Design and Photography role, and upgrading from a canon 60d to a sony a7ii, whenever I do photography for work I keep that kit lens on because it is so versatile and all the photos look great for clients. Especially helps that I'm taking landscape shots essentially so my f/stop is always going to be fairly high for that tac sharp look. Still have a couple of primes though for my own little fun photography walks though
Since getting the RF 28-70 f2, I rarely use any other lens. Prime quality in a zoom, even at f2 it’s perfect wide range. Perfect all day, street, wedding, portrait lens. Probably best lens ever created in that regards. I also own a few others but this is the first zoom that convinced me zooms can be abbettele option than primes
I love my tamron 28-75. Used to really take the whole zoom with your feet philosophy to heart, but realized that I walk around a lot regardless of the lense. My eyes are always darting all over the place for compositions and I eventually got tired of having to play musical chairs because the specific prime I had wasn't what I needed. 135mm primes are pretty much the only ones I love with no question though lol.
I've been using lately the 50mm 'cause I can get a deep background separation, a beautiful bokeh, close ups without distortion and with just a step I can get a full body angle. But it's hard to stay with only one lens. 35 + 85 or 24 + 50 is better to me.
If I had to choose... Thats hard.. been shooting mostly 50mm all my life, but I sometimes feel like it is too tight these days.. But I would probably still choose the 50.. Maybe I could live with 40mm as well.. ? I feel like a zoom keeps me from getting the best shots.. But we are all different!
Yeah… I am getting back on the horse after a decade long break. I went straight to the Nikon Z5 and the Nikkor Z 28-75 f2.8. Definitely the mid zooms (24-70/28-75) are an absolute must for someone looking to build a more diverse portfolio.
I use both Prime and Zoom lenses simply for versatility. Zoom lenses never stopped me from moving around or getting creative, but they have helped me to be able to stand in one area and get different shots. Comes in handy when you're limited at where you can stand in a room or area. Also this was super informative and interesting to watch. First video I've ever seen of yours and I subscribed.
its heavy, and pain in the ass to carry around, i have it but it will make you see which focal length you shoot the most and then you can buy a prime that you will get the most use of...
I just bought my first camera this week, and am taking baby steps. My kit lens is a 45mm 2.8.But because of this video; my first lens purchase is going to be a 24mm-70mm 2.8f. Thank You!!!! :D
I use the GF 45-100mm f4 for almost everything right now. It covers 80% from all my work and it's sharp like primes. And of course the 80mm f1.7 complements it in low light.
I love prime lenses. I prefer to use only primes, not sure what it is. It's not the option for wider apertures (though that helps in certain situations), since I'm anyway often stop down, since I most often shoot architecture. BUT, the most used lens I've used has always been a 24-70mm zoom lens. Right now I'm shooting with Nikon and the 24-70mm f4 S is constantly on the camera. I'm saving for the 14-30mm f4 S, which might become the main lens, but with the 24-70mm I'm both able to do wide angle shots (even though I need to go even more wide than 24mm) and get detail shots. I also use it for my portraits, with the same issues, but still. It's just such an amazing zoom lens, which I'd almost always recommend people to get their hands on as soon as possible.
I'm here for the vibe of the video, I literally love your setup, the background, the lighting of the video, the frames at the back. Soo pleasing to watch Audio quality is amazing too. Very inspiring.
One note, you are just focusing on focal lengths coverage of the zoom, but not taking max aperture into consideration. We discuss 24-70, but on the video you are shooting primes. So, although all focal lenghts are covered by that zoom, results are not going to be the same as the prime lens.
Which one would you recommend for someone who just wants 1 lens. For me the most important thing is for faces to come out super sharp and professional like when traveling and for normal fam photos. Also, for travel purposes i don't want a huge lens.
I've often wondered, Why do the manufacturers make & sell so many 24-70 Lenses, rather than 35-85 lenses?? There's not even a 70mm lens available and 24 is generally for landscapes!
I just did an upgrade to the lens kit too, I shoot canon and have just picked up the 18-150mm. After this video I feel like I've made a good choice. I know its not the same but the info from this was super helpful. Thanks Lizzie!
I finally got around to watching your video Lizzie and I 100% and beyond agree.... I LOVE my prime lenses but for versatility NOTHING beats my Tamron 24-70 F/2.8 lens. I have used to for portraits, in low light, products, landscapes, you name it. I LOVE my 24-70 and it literally lives on my Z7 unless I need a prime lens.
24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 (f2.8 if you got the dough, f4-f6 otherwise) and you are set. 24-70 is good for a lot of things, but sometimes you just need that extra bit of reach.
I love the Tamron 35-150 2-2.8 sony e mount lens. Way more range than the 24-70 and just as fast of an aperture (a little faster on the wider end). Now THATS an all arounder.
I've been looking at the Black and white print out pictures on lizzie's right for most of the time😂...I don't know it's just Dope mehn 😁 also great video...the speech flows, well compared to your old videos back in 2018 😂😂😂 (I've been here quite so long 😂😂)

Thank you Lizzie! I am looking into my first camera the Sony A7iv but which lens to get is super confusing. This was very helpful and reduces my stress!
Something that;s really fun for me is using cinema lenses for photography. its not practical or easy but it's a blast. I bet you'd have a good time trying it out. like, grab some Vespids or some Xeen CF's and go shoot some frames. Still frames, that is. Thoughts?
Great video! I'm new to photography, with a Canon 90dD. Would you recommend any of the lenses listed, I have all of them except the 24-70mm and 25-70mm? 24-70mm, 28-75mm, 55-250mm, 24mm, 50mm. The 18-55mm came with the camera. I'm thinking about returning the 24mm and 50mm, and getting the 24-70mm or 28-75mm Tamron, what's your thoughts?
If you are using a 90D is not the same effect, bcuz she's talking all the time about full frame cameras (90d is APSC camera), and that means that if you start to use a 24-70 lens with your 1.6x cropped sensor, will really get a 38-112 lens, not so versatile for wide angle shots. But there's an option! I very love the Sigma Art 18-35 f1.8 , and his brother 50-100 f1.8 . Both are really sharp at f1.8 aperture and totally RAZOR sharp at f2.8 😍 With the 18-35 you will have, in fact, a 28-56. With the 50-100 you will have, in fact, a 80-160.
