Very interesting to learn about the different bearing edges on the SC kit. I've got a kit from the same era so now I'm wondering about my bearing edges ??
I love when super geeky musicians fret about the minute details - and if you played a drum solo and every other tom had a different bearing edge - but it was all the same wood from the same kit etc - literally nobody in the audience would know. And to hear any difference - you'd probably have to have one of each bearing edge - on the same sized tom with the same skins tuned to the same note. And even then you'd probably be hard pushed to notice. It's like guitarists who insist that 1mm thicker picks will sound different after going thru an amp - being miked up and out of a deafeningly loud PA. No.
Kotow Boy well maybe some musicians hearing is more acute than others! As a "geeky musician " I'm just curious to know the shaping of my bearing edges, either way my toms some great!!!
Kotow Boy : Not necessarily. Simon has a touch and he can play for the room. I saw him with a similar kit at Blues Alley few years ago, with Hiromi, and he played the room.
I could listen to Simon all day, top man and drummer.
So cool and nonchalant about his gear. "Yeah you know no big deal". Such a gentleman and a legend.
Love Simon... Keep on rocking in the free world
he's such a gentleman.
Always wondered what they sounded like au naturel. The answer is amazing. Open sounding
Gentleman and one of best drummers on the planet. Wish i could meet him and shake his hand, and ofcors to hear him play. It would make me so happy :)
Thank you Rhythm Magazine! Always wanted to hear Simon's drums like this.
I was at this gig. Simon - and the kit - sounded amazing......obviously!
Meet him some years ago, a real gentleman.
Simon my dream drummer!

A gent and a legend
Curious to know about what he’s using that Roland TM-2 for
Can anyone offer any info on what Kaz is talking about when he starts translating the drums into colours...?
Look up " Synesthesia "...
It's called "Synthesisa" I myself have it it's pretty cool
Whatsthe thing with the colors?
Synesthesia.
Hotel towels are the shit!! :-)
Shure SM 27 or Beta 27 as OH?
He tunes on the higher side but they sound great 👍🤟👏
I've been to Ronnie Scotts and its _tiny_ That kit would be deafening.

@@Riddim4 I like when he says an ever so slightly smaller wood tip will be a lot quieter. Infinitesimal maybe... Maybe use blasticks or rods ?
I was there! It was absolutely beautiful. The sound was amazing and the BDs and gong drum sounded bigger than ever!
Legend says Simon borrowed this green Tama kit from Lars...
It sound like Kaz has synesthesia. How cool would that be if you were a musician.
Simon Phillips: precursor to Danny Carey..lol
