    Well, no chance of good weather here in Manchester. It has been a miserable 6 months or so, but good for photography. Loved the photos, Steve. The first one was the kind of photography that I seek but seldom find, absolutely brilliant.

      This weather is fairly typical for the UK, especially in 2024 when we’ve yet to have any warm weather. At least it makes for interesting shots and there’s never a dull moment (apart from when it’s dull of course 😊).

    Nice images Steve. I try to get out just after a storm if I can, particularly at sunset. The colours in the sky can be fantastic, but I don't know how that would translate in black and white. Anyway, I don't think you had to wait long for inclement weather this year so far.

    JMW Turner strapped himself to a ships mast so that he could experience the full might of a storm at sea - just off Margate. I'm not suggesting you should go that far, but it's a similar idea. He didn't have a great time either, but the work he produced as a result was quite something.

    Totally on the same page with you on this one. My best photos have been taken in super bad weather. Frozen fingers, chilled to the bone etc. I only shoot B+W film and take 2-3 cameras with me. HP5+ Leica MP Iso 400, Leica M2 Iso 800 and Rollei 35S Iso 400 with a range of ND filters for creative shots.(Leica filters too expensive). It is impossible to change film on these days and my takeaway is to now make sure that I never completely finish the roll on the hike.I have done just that at an epic location in snow conditions and with no film left I saw the best photo I never took just as I returned to the carpark. Lesson learned. Fortunately when I returned to warm conditions I knew not to remove the film or lenses until they come back to temperature as going from cold to hot causes condensation. If I am in rainy conditions with little wind I have an umbrella hat I got from Ali Express really cheap which just protects the camera long enough for the shot. This is best only used when you are totally alone for the comedic look you create...Cheers!

      I also dislike fiddling with cameras whilst out in tricky conditions which is why I prefer the autofocus/autowind models. To be honest though a fully sealed digital camera makes more sense.

    @가야할길-g9y 4 місяці тому

    Thank you for the pictures. It helps a lot with black and white pictures
    I'm going to ask you some questions while watching UA-cam
    1. When you use the black and white filter, do you correct it?
    2.What is the photometry mode when shooting with the f80 camera Spot photometry or multi-pattern photometry?
    When you shoot with
    3.xp2 film, iso is 200,250
    Is there a reason why you're filming with that
    And what's the development time?

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  4 місяці тому

      When I shoot with 35mm cameras I use the built in meter so do not need to correct for any filters.
      If a camera has matrix metering I always use it. It is fast and reliable but I still tend to exclude much of the sky when locking in a reading.

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  4 місяці тому

      Oh, and I rate XP2 depending on the conditions. Bright and sunny, EI200, normal EI 250, dull EI 400. This film loves overexpose and the sky doesn’t block up. Losing shadow detail can kill it though so never underexpose.

    Funny coincidence that I've come to the same conclusion in the last few weeks while shooting sky-oriented landscapes on HP5 with the 4x5. Bad weather is optimal for sky shots. I have a roll of XP2 in front of me that I've been wanting to shoot, but your comment has me baffled: should I use a green filter to get cloud contrast with XP2 rather than the usual orange/red filter I use with HP5? Does the C41 film behave that much differently from the B&W? Great shots of some interesting topography. Wish we had scenes like that in New England.

    • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  4 місяці тому

      Hi Dave. You will get very similar results in skies whether you use a yellow or the yellow/green filter. Green alone is similar but loses you more light and is best reserved for when you have a lot of greenery.

    • @SteveONions

      There are a few later stabilised lenses for the likes of Nikon F mount cameras but you need one of the last film bodies - F5, F100, F80, F75.

    Hi I love your photos ! ua-cam.com/video/R77qSMfh0kQ/v-deo.html " Whilst the majority of the images were made using a 720nm infrared filter there were a few good ones taken with no filter attached for that full spectrum look." • @SteveONions
      @SteveONions  3 місяці тому
