    What a great trip. I'm in SC, might have to do this adventure soon.

      You should check out the Musterground Road video that's on my channel. The entrance for that area is on the SC side, so it might be a little closer for you.

      @@mountainstoseaoverland9855 I watched that one last night, very enjoyable. It's on the list for sure. I'll get my group together and hit those trails soon. But first, cape lookout in 3 weeks.

    Do you need any camp permit even driving inside the forest?

    Hi- On that road you drove through (dirt road you entered at the the State Park entrance). Were there a few more camp spots or just the one you stayed at? I am a newbie with a new Tacoma and OffRoad trailer and trying to find more spots similar to Old NC Highway 105

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  4 роки тому

      There really weren't a ton of campspots... maybe 3-4 areas that would work. It's not like Hwy 105 with all the pull offs. But there are some places that you can make work.

    What kind of CB setup do you have and what kind of range you get on it?

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  4 роки тому +1

      We actually don't use CBs. We have GMRS (and we are licensed for the high wattage) and we prefer it since we can run radios up to 50s watts instead of the usual 5 watts of most CB units. We also can easily talk to others who are part of our group who don't have a fancy setup, since GMRS overlaps with FRS on channels 1-7. It's been nice to have some higher power users who can run the high wattage, but also connect with other folks on little handhelds from Walmart.

    If the gate is open across the bridge that will lead you to Muster Grounds but be prepared...it gets rough.

      Yeah we were hoping we could make it up there and at least see how far the trucks could go, but we were happy having been able to make it to the river

    Where did you enter the trail head at?

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 років тому +1

      Hey Eric, from the state park entrance you take a paved road to a parking lot further into the park, and from there you can see a dirt road heading south into the area where we drove.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 років тому +1

      No, there is no permit needed, but call the park ranger before going because the road isn't always open. Sometimes they close it for trail maintenance.

      LAT: 35.06145, LON: -82.94692 Easily found on google Earth - drop a placemark/pin (yellow pushpin graphic) and it will denote the Lat/Lon in the properties of the pin.

    i heard all of these road where permanently closed :(
    last time i was there you could drive across the bridge. someone told me they were working on permanently closing the whole trail system to vehicles, due to people going driving off of the trails.!.
    anyone know if these are still open or if they have indeed been closed ?

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  5 років тому +1

      I think they had temporarily closed an area this spring because of how much rain they got in the early months, but they were actively working to repair the trails, so maybe now they are re-opened. Someone I talked to that posted to this video on my other channel (Brad And Family) said recently that even more of the roads are open now then what we experienced when we went.

      @@mountainstoseaoverland9855 cool, i have had a lot of fun there and hope to go back, but a local sheriffs deputy told me that they had closed the little bridge on chestnut mountain road and the bulldozer was working on closing off sections at a time and working their way up the hill until it was all closed (because they were unable to keep people from driving off the trail)...

      Interesting. The impression I have gotten is that at any given time rumors will abound and you will get 6 different stories from 5 different people. But every time I have called the folks at Gorges State Park they have given me reliable up to date information. So I recommend call when you are planning a trip and call again before you go!
