No, only one ball was partially hitting the wicket. It would have been an umpires call in today’s game. And it’s not jayas fault Australia couldn’t catch those balls.
Back in early 90s, In ODIs there was a rule that fielders can't be placed out of circle for, first 15 overs. In those days, Jayasuria and Kaluwithrana used to do 50 in 5 overs only.
