He ruled in the 90s.. infact I haven't seen a batsman like him.. he have won n number of matches for Sri Lanka.. he was the one who changed the pattern of ODI cricket.. to be very frank India was no where near Sri Lanka at that time.. we did have good players but no one was match winner.. many played selfish cricket and Jayasuriya never played selfish cricket.. he played for his country.. later on we had players like Sehwag who just played their own game which wasn't selfish cricket.. Always would have respect for players like Jayasuriya and Sehwag

When Jayasuriya got going, the attack was blown to smithereens in a matter of a few overs. I remember once Kapil Dev & Prabhakar began bowling spin to the Sri Lankan team after being hammered all over the ground. Depressing era that! Muralidaran was no less & Vaas was the silent killer. The most hopeless match I ever saw was when India scored 500 against SL & I was picturing a rare possible win. A friend pointed out SL was yet to bat & bat they did! Almost scoring 1000 runs in one innings. That SL team made their opponents shudder.

At young age he used to play backyard cricket in the temple of his village in Matara. The space they had to play was little, they could use only one side of the field as a boundary. Cuz the majority of the colleagues are right handed batmen, they used their leg side as the boundary which was Jaŷasuriyas off side. Thats why he developed this shot to hit sixes off his off side. And he went on to play for his country later where he used his shot to turmoil the bowlers all around the world.
Wow what a batting my childhood memory watching him play especially in 1996 world cup era. On that only two players I used to watch those were Shahid afridi and sanath jaysuria. Both are legend and I believe they really introduce T20 concept by hitting massive sixes and fastest hundred of their own. Cricket misses many legendary cricket player.
