I'd love to see something like this pulled out of a backpack (or even a hip pack) and flying an autonomous search pattern during a wilderness search and rescue mission. Maybe have it ship video feed back to a small base station with visual processing software to spot potential points of interest, and tag them with GPS for further investigation.

Hi , ESC ADVICE , to run smaller dia motor , increase or advance commutation timing to increase torque . increase the pwm frequency in stages to increase efficiency and also raise or lower ramp up power to better match the hysteresis of the magnets and the windings. this helps prevent desyncs and reduces motor temp , And finaly change to d shot 300 or 150 for a more stable less prone to noise signal , Cool project .

For about 10% of the cost you can use an omnibus F4 controller that would provide all the functionality you need.
I think for those of us in the hobby of flying things untethered from a computer FPV would be more rewarding. Using expressLRS with a runcam split and a VTX with the omnibus F4 OSD.

I don't have experience with RC planes (or making them) but I have played with 3d printers. Does this sound reasonable:
      1. design wing (or segment) in CAD
      2. print the skin of the segment with a single permiter and the core of the segment as a 'solid' piece
      3. slide skin onto solid core segment and apply kevlar / cf / glass + resin
      4. once cured, slide wing + skin off core (more complex wing geometries would require a core that could collapse inwards)
      5. (optional as skin should weigh on the order of grams) dissolve skin (with acetone, water, alcohol depending on filament)
this would have the same result as what you are proposing, but allow for a 3d printed base part (easier fabrication) and require less material to be dissolved

Nice to see all the early variations.

the nano goblin was always very well received and people still look for the kits. i would humbly suggest there is room for a well designed nano fixed wing fpv platform. it would be amazing to fit an HDFPV goggle feed on a very light frame. so if you are monitoring for interest that's one more plus one on a well designed nano frame.
the optimal would have been a nano goblin new or used but just didn't luck out with finding one quickly enough. bought a dart 250 but only after the nano goblin looked prohibitively expensive to find new or too time consuming to find used

There's lots of tinyewhoops running 0802 motors with blheli_s, so it definitely can run tiny motors. There are a few settings in blheli_s and blheli32 (whichever of the two you're using) that should be adjusted for the specific motors you use. For the standard uses - 5-7inch quads, with around 2306 motors - the default settings are pretty good but I expect that the reason the tiny motors didn't work is because they do need some settings adjustment. There's a few videos on youtube on what each of the settings are for.

Or does it use absolute coordinates? e.g. fly to lng X0, lat Y0, alt H0; fly to lng X1, lat Y1, alt H1… or maybe a mix of the two?

Hey it’s been 9 months I know how busy you must be and how hard it can be to make money off UA-cam but I would be so happy if you would make a build video for this especially if it might not require a hot wire foam cutter. Also have you considered posting shorts? Might bring some new people to your amazing channel. Honestly I think this video got no where near as much attention as it should have this is just amazing. Sorry this is getting long hope you have a great rest of your evening and love the content keep up the great work!

I'm surprised that the cylinder batteries were selected rather than prismatic, is that for ruggedness or simplicity in construction? I thought they were a fair bit heavier because of the metal can

For this the new starlink mobile link would be idea for remote control and feedback. You'd need a board out of a small smartphone instead of the receiver. I think some weight could be removed from the camera

Make sure you cut the antennas right! Formula 300/frequency in MHz is a full wave . You can make 1/4 or 1/8 wave. Don’t need that heavy wire! Use 22 gauge transformer wire or similar. Tape the wire to the inside of the cavity!

What is the battery you use and what is the drone's range?

DJI Action 2 would be also a great camera with 56g a bit heavier, but supports 4k 120fps and flat profile.

How did you make the body? I saw that polyester cutter machine for a few seconds in the video. Can you elaborate on how that machine works, how you got it? Also what type of polyester do you use?

    • @thinkflight

Not sure what you are referring to by polyester, do you mean foam? The hotwire cutter can be found at Speccnc.com, and I often use EPP foam for my builds.
