They have slightly different instruments and steering wheels front is not as simple as 90 MY. And I was also looking for bright red outside and bright red interior. I would like to drive clean and shine ZR-1 along Phoenix towards Los Angeles in this car in a configuration like your father's, and fire up a Delco Bose Gold that will crack one of the Cock Robin When Your Heart is Weak track. This is one of my dreams.
Thanks bud, and the Grand National in 1987 was only 276 horsepower too, I've driven 2 and I'm here to tell you it was WAY more haha....The 2001/2002 5.7 LS1 in Camaro/Trans Am gained the ls6 manifold/egr delete and didn't gain over the 1998-2000? My 2002 Z28 put out 316hp at the wheels stock but was rated at 310. GM's been up to this kind of thing through more than the 60's. Maybe this ZR1 is just a factory freak, they do exist, and I have no doubt this one was broke in easy....damn thing pulls like it has 450
"One of the fastest cars in the world".......no, other than the 12 cylinder Ferrari, this ZR1 was THE fastest car on Earth. It was quicker than the Porsche 911 Turbo, ( and everything else for that matter ), it stopped quicker than the 911, OUT-HANDLED the 911 on the road course/race track, so much so, the ZR1 logged lap-times a full 2 seconds faster than the 911 turbo, YET THE ZR1 HAD A STICKER PRICE THAT WAS $37,000 LESS THAN THE 911 TURBO. The ZR1 equipped with the famous LT5 engine shattered many track/race records, including a 24 hour endurance speed record that stood FOR 50 YEARS. The old record was 161 mph average over 24 hours, set back in 1940 by a huge aircraft engine. Years later, Ford tried to break this record & failed. Audi and Mercedes also tried & failed. And that Mercedes was totally modified just for that purpose. But A PRACTICALLY FACTORY BONE-STOCK ZR1 shattered the old 161 mph lap average with an astonishing 175.8 mph lap average FOR 24 HOURS. It also registered the highest G's ever recorded on the skid pad at the time. This ZR1 came factory equipped with special Bilstein shocks in the rear. The rear of the ZR1 was a full 3 inches wider than the base model Corvette from the same time, to make room for those extremely wide rear tires. Anyone should be proud to own an LT5 equipped ZR1.
Excellent information, and I didn't know all those other companies tried and failed to break that record, I did know it stood for a long time. Mercury Marine really did a nice job indeed. ^^ Absolutely right, such a fantastic car for the money!

@@Feral80sKid Thank you Sir, you are very kind. My story is that I was close to buying a 1990 model (only this year was an option fro me due to the front markers on the front and turn signals) and I don't really like the later 1991+ models anymore. They have slightly different instruments and steering wheels front is not as simple as 90 MY. And I was also looking for bright red outside and bright red interior. However, I got married and the children's life expenses + other obligations stopped my dreams of a ZR-1 for a dozen or so years. Sometimes I regret it :D. I would like to drive clean and shine ZR-1 along Phoenix towards Los Angeles in this car in a configuration like your father's, and fire up a Delco Bose Gold that will crack one of the Cock Robin When Your Heart is Weak track. This is one of my dreams.
Beautifil car. Expensive to purchase today.👍
Thank you
The hp rating is the true hp, this is not the 1960's...nice car though
Thanks bud, and the Grand National in 1987 was only 276 horsepower too, I've driven 2 and I'm here to tell you it was WAY more haha....The 2001/2002 5.7 LS1 in Camaro/Trans Am gained the ls6 manifold/egr delete and didn't gain over the 1998-2000? My 2002 Z28 put out 316hp at the wheels stock but was rated at 310. GM's been up to this kind of thing through more than the 60's. Maybe this ZR1 is just a factory freak, they do exist, and I have no doubt this one was broke in easy....damn thing pulls like it has 450
@port nut Sick, I really love the tpi as well, had a 1990 Vette that I did a bunch of stuff to.
Great video! Love the LT5/ZR1. This car is a true legend!!! See my other comment for some fun facts about this ZR1.
Thank you so much my friend, really enjoyed your comment, I love the fact that someone really knows about these! Have a great Christmas....
@@Feral80sKid The pleasure was all mine. Merry Christmas to you & your family!
@@howabouthetruth2157 Thank you so much ^^
"One of the fastest cars in the world".......no, other than the 12 cylinder Ferrari, this ZR1 was THE fastest car on Earth.
