While I believe Flo Jo was taking something to enhance performance, I believe others were, too. If one person is able to fool the tests, others are too. For those who say she went from average to best in the world too quickly to be drug free, isn't it possible that her training and being a late bloomer could have accounted for that if everything else was level across the board? Ya have to admit something doesn't add up. The fact that her time still stands 35 years later, to me, means she really was that great. Shoes, diet, training, clothing, etc have all been advanced amazingly since 1988. Even new ways of concealing substance use have advanced significantly...yet Flo Jo's times stand. Any way you slice it, she was absolutely incredible. I'm privileged to have watched those Olympics as a 21 year old. I'll never forget it. RIP, Florence Griffith Joyner.
Every person believe it or not has a different fingerprint even identical twins.Isn't that amazing. Why is it always that someone has to be doing something illegal for them to exceed the perceived norm when they accomplish great feats. Are we to believe that whenever something is done for the first time that the person who does it is on drugs or something that no one else has access to?Flo Jo was just one in a trillion.

He said his wife's astonishing gains are the result of being "trained as a man." He added: “We bought a $150 leg exerciser and she did leg rolls every night. Completely true. They are desperately changing everything just to get this record broken. All of the women running today look like body builders. Sure they're clean. The fact that her times still stand up with the shoes that subtract almost .4 off of the times in the 100m do lead to your conclusion. She was that great.

You probably voted for Biden huh? She never tested positive even after her death in autopsy no evidence of any prior use. You don’t think her running had anything to do with her style and training? 5000 sit-ups a day , can you do that? Boy howdy you got to get off the koolaid and get back to reality 🤦♂️
She is so beautiful. I can see this again and again. And never move on since the day she wins the gold. Still and forever the legend, my idol Flo Jo. Rest in Peace.
@The Mon Agreed, but I wouldn't want to hang from a rope until then. It's getting on 35 years, during which time lots of people have pushed athletic boundaries but this one is still off on its own.
When you watch FloJo run, there is something *mechanically* different about how she runs, particularly when she is moving at high speed. This technique, I believe, is a large part of why she is quicker than other athletes.
I completely agree! Her legs barely make contact with the track before she raises them again for her next stride. Her technique is so flawless and beautiful to watch. No action is wasted. Never seen another athlete like that. Which is why her record has stood the test of time!
She was definitely "stronger" head to toe for her body size. More control. She was doing a "reach" technique which was being coached at the time. Now days they do "active recovery" which has proven to be faster. So basically with today's knowledge she could challenge 21.0 in the 200m and 10.3's in the 100m.
Look at her knees... please look at her knees.... And also remember during this time... there was a male that was running a very similar style.. where it appeared as if they're excelerating through the entire race...Carl Lewis ran this way..
Thats absolutely correct and when she was engaged to Al Joyner, I met them in London and Al Joyner said he was looking at how Flo-jo's running style and was making mechanical changes to the way she ran as the weakest part of her race prior to 1988 was the last 40 meters so it was about building her strength, (the strength would ensure control & relaxation) and adopting a 'Bouncing' stance rather than trying too hard to create speed, which was how she ran prior to meeting Al Joyner. It all came together nicely with Flo-jo gaining that technique in control & Relaxation.
Because she is legendary and did this just 1 hour 40mins after running a 21.56 200. She pulled up and started smiling with her hands in the air and could have easily ran faster@clarkerenae9628
@@micahyanik2514 no doubt, her progression over her career doesn’t support an insane drop in her times. She was very smart to exit the sport after smashing the sprint records
I remember watching this on television. I can’t believe the announcers weren’t screaming at the tops of their lungs about what they were witness to. When her form is mentioned concerning her arm swing never changes, the fact her shoulders are on the same plane and have no bounce at all shows why her arms and stride never change. Her form is still trying to be emulated. Simply the smoothest stride ever. 2022 and her times still stand.

I loved Flo-Jo, but her heroics in a single Olympic does appears suspect, but I loved her anyway. We all cheated and sin in some kind of way or another.
@@characterunderconstruction5891 No, never tested positive to any banned substance during her life and I would surmise that no samples of her urine or blood survived to be tested in later years. This makes it impossible to prove whether or not she doped. Armstrong was accused of doping during his first Tour de France win by Christophe Bassons - a member of the Festina team and known by his teammates as the only clean rider among them - of doping. Armstrong was found to have traces of Cortisone in his system at the time but the team doctor back dated a prescription for medication containing this substance. Years later Armstrong's frozen samples from 1999 onwards were tested using new methods and found to contain EPO. The truth was out. It should be noted that cycling was rotten to the core and the dirtiest of sports at this time and until Armstrong was unveiled as a cheat. Nearly every rider was doping. Cheating isn't sinning. It deprives the world of true champions and excellence in sport and makes us question and therefore tarnishes the achievements of those who are not cheats.

Great job by the announcer, Charlie Jones. As her husband Al Joyner raced out to Flo-Jo, he just let the moment speak for itself. He stayed silent for almost 40 seconds. That would be unheard of today ( 2021 ) with the way announcers always want their call and descriptions to be part of the moment.

She never failed a drug test. So that evidence says she's not a drug cheat. The governing bodies feel the same way evidently because her name is still in the record books. They have no problem stripping people of the records and medals if PROVEN to be drug cheats. Suspiciously fast times I'll admit, but can anyone make accusations against Flo Jo without making the same accusations against the Russian and German girls she was running against? Here's something else suspicious, you never see the German or Russian girls in these finals anymore since the more stringent drug testing began. What, suddenly they're not fast anymore? They once held all the individual and relay records. American sprinters are always there, have been, consistently since the 60s. I grew up with black people, went to racially mixed schools. During gym, they were consistently the fastest even as children. It didn't matter what the activity, the black children were naturally faster. That's not a boast or an embellishment, it's simply the truth. This is something black people are aware of, whites people are too. Evelyn Ashford, who is my fave sprinter, (not faster) but just as fast as Flo Jo. She tied one of Flo Jo's records before Flo Jo reclaimed it, in this very event. Yet no one accuses her of doping, nor should they. She's just fast...The Kenyans and Ethiopians routinely set amazing distance records, no one accuses them of doping because a look at their body types belies any such notion. They are just fast. (distance).. Michael Phelps, the world greatest swimmer. Medal after medal, record after record. It's just accepted that he did it clean. So suspicious or not, there's no evidence that he cheated. Should it be leveled against him that he did? In my mind, NO! There is no evidence that he did. There is no credible evident Flo Jo did. Only suspicion! If ever PROVEN she cheated, I'll be the first to denounce.
She had everything to be the best sprinter of all time, she was so beautiful and original and she still the best sprinter of all time. Rest In Peace Flo-Jo we miss you. Why you gone too soon? why? 😢😢
GOAT She was so great even if someone breaks her time they won't touch her brilliance. The scenes before the start of the race she is so composed and calm. @@popeyedish It's a moral issue: Flo Jo achieved her results through hard training. She didn't need doping. That's the point here. A statement from FloJo and her husband, Al Joyner: “I know exactly what people say about me,” she said. "And that's just not true." I don't need to use drugs. FloJo's death was caused by an epileptic seizure due to a congenital brain disorder, sadly drowned RIP. Florence Griffith Joyner retires from the field On February 22, 1989, five months after the Seoul Olympic Games, Griffith Joyner announced her retirement from track and field. When discussing her retirement with Liguori, Griffith Joyner said: "I retired in 1989 because I could no longer train at 100%, the way I used to train. If I can't give it my all, I don't want to give it at all." Griffith Joyner moved on with her life. She became a mother, pursued fashion design and continued to combine sports and style. She even designed the 1990 NBA uniforms for the Indiana Pacers. After the death of Florence Griffith Joyner, doping allegations against her intensified. Many believed that illegal performance enhancers may have contributed to her death. However, after the autopsy, Dr. Richard Fukumoto, forensic medicine expert, clearly stated that no changes caused by steroids or other doping agents could be detected in her body. "This report allows Florence Griffith Joyner to rest in peace," said Primo Nebiolo, then president of the International Association of Athletics Federations. “Her family has had to endure incredible media attacks, many trying to undermine her legacy without any real evidence. This campaign harmed the entire sport and the anti-doping campaign. I expect more responsible behavior from media representatives in the future. I hope that after this, many members of the athletic world will assure the family of their love and sympathy." The 100m and 200m world record holder is FloJo, these are the facts. Facts are stubborn things. "FloJo was juicing". These are just assumptions. The truth is, no one has ever proven these allegations. So FloJo's world records are and will remain official. I don't see anyone who can topple them. FloJo achieved her results with the perfect harmony of body, soul and spirit. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Florence Griffith Joyner's style and speed brought her international fame, but her Olympic performance was clouded by skepticism. A year after the Games, in 1989, a former American athlete named Darrell Robinson told a European magazine that Griffith Joyner had given her money to buy growth hormones. Griffith Joyner denied the allegations, telling the New York Times, "It's all made up lies about drugs. I'd be crazy to do drugs." In 1998, sports commentator John Feinstein said on NPR's Morning Edition, "The rumors were in Seoul in 1988, and I think the first thing to note is that he never tested positive," he said. "But she became a star late. She was 28 at the time... These rumors will always be there and she's been asked about them throughout her career, which she's always denied." The International Olympic Committee's medical board says it conducted rigorous drug testing on Griffith Joyner during the 1988 Olympics - and it always came back negative. Griffith Joyner spoke to journalist Ann Liguori about the allegations in 1991: "I knew I had never taken drugs, so I didn't let it bother me when people said that. I knew it was something that was in the news," she said. "People were looking for personal things to point at the athletes. Try not to buy it and just focus on what needs to be done and move on." I know it's hard to accept the fact that FloJo is the best in the world, pure. No one has ever proven that it is muddy. That being said, I understand that you are suffering and trying to smear FloJo's memory, but that only qualifies you. Your baseless accusations are just trying to reassure me, I am calm because I know the truth about FloJo's purity. So you can say anything until you prove that your words are empty. . She is the only woman to hold 2 athletics world records for more than 35 years. I'm sorry you can't understand that there are people in our world who can create admirable acts without any doping.
Two ckeeks of the same cheating ass. Partners in the biggget crime perpetrated on T&F. The Milli Vanili of T&F. There is sufficient circumstantial evidence to conclude that Flo Jo's transition from average sprinter to super sprinter, between seasons was aided by performance enhancing drugs. There is a reason why such a celebrated female athlete is never mentioned. There isn't a significant track meet named in her honor. Why? Given the fact that her husband and coach is assocaited with the fastest woman ever. Both male and female athletes would be lining up for the services. But he is MIA. A book detailing Flo Jo's rise to the fastest woman in the world. Would have been a must read for all T&F athletes and her fans. But none was ever written and none will be. She paid the ultimate price for her deception. Those who fail to recognize that Flo Jo was a dirty athlete are devoid of the capacity for critical thinking border on dumb..

“I know exactly what people say about me,” she said. "And that's just not true." I don't need to use drugs. If they want, they can come for testing every week of the year. I have nothing to hide." Her husband says all the talk boils down to jealousy. He said his wife's astonishing gains are the result of being "trained as a man." @The Mon Agreed, but I wouldn't want to hang from a rope until then.
She didn't have a 'drive phase' which is a similar technique used by everyone on the planet.
No one could EVER be better than this beautiful athlete..... unbelievable 😀
Why thou?
Because she is legendary and did this just 1 hour 40mins after running a 21.56 200. She pulled up and started smiling with her hands in the air and could have easily ran faster@clarkerenae9628

@@characterunderconstruction5891
No, never tested positive to any banned substance during her life and I would surmise that no samples of her urine or blood survived to be tested in later years.

JPGgoSIG10 you missed out drugs out of your list...
she was a drug cheat!

It's a moral issue: Flo Jo achieved her results through hard training. She didn't need doping. That's the point here.
She changed coaches, she and her husband developed new training methods, which brought the long-awaited success, in addition to the work put in.
A statement from FloJo and her husband, Al Joyner:
“I know exactly what people say about me,” she said. "And that's just not true." I don't need to use drugs. If they want, they can come for testing every week of the year. I have nothing to hide." FloJo's death was caused by an epileptic seizure due to a congenital brain disorder, sadly drowned RIP.
I hope that after this, many members of the athletic world will assure the family of their love and sympathy."
The 100m and 200m world record holder is FloJo, these are the facts.
Try not to buy it and just focus on what needs to be done and move on."
I know it's hard to accept the fact that FloJo is the best in the world, pure. No one has ever proven that it is muddy. That being said, I understand that you are suffering and trying to smear FloJo's memory, but that only qualifies you. Your baseless accusations are just trying to reassure me, I am calm because I know the truth about FloJo's purity. So you can say anything until you prove that your words are empty. . I agree and others can imitate, but can never duplicate that type of greatness and class on a track...Rest In Peace, Flo Jo.

She had a 9 clock shadow work that one out
@@stephenspencer89 Apparently you don't know much about the appearances of women; so you should keep your inexperience to yourself and no one would know. Read some of the comment around you see so many about her beauty. Experienced Men know about women with hairy features. Sad, very sad...
How many times she did performs with such distinctions at the OLYMPICS.?

That's why she runs that fast. she's like dancing. she's very circular
@nebra ful Yeah, steroids do that.

AwwwwWhat a treat to watch her fly shes like a Gazelle ❤️🥰🥰
she is so high up off the ground when she runs, you only realize she is not that tall when she is standing. An amazing athlete, her character impresses me just as much.
She was so talented and beautiful. One special lady
Every stride the same.... She didn't dye in the stride away....... Simply perfect. Simply the best of the best
Without Doubt.
Still true. 33 years later. 7:44
Wow very positive acceleration, 33 years will never erase in track history.
Clean, smooth running style belongs to Flo Jo.
Its performance is unsurpassed. She achieved her results simply by activating her own creative energies, also using her husband's training methods.
Thanks to FloJo. REST IN PEACE❤
She the best forever❤
I have seen 88 Olympic first time on television in my house.i steel remembering that moment.
Flo Jo was simply Amazing and the best I've ever seen run. She was quick out the blocks fast when she got to full form and had the endurance to maintain top speed. Train smart run fast and those quarter repeats helped her a great deal. RIP Queen of Track and Field, gone but never forgotten.🙏🏽👍🏽❤️

Well put at the end, The Greatest Female Sprinter of All Time. FloJo.
She isn't even close. She had one great year and basically nothing the rest of her career. One silver at a boycotted nothing Olympics, and one world silver in one event one other year, that is it. Doped up to the eyeballs for one dream year then quickly retired before she failed a drug test.
Flo the Fastest! Evelyn the Greatest! Felix & Shelly not far behind Evelyn!
And her records still are untouched in 2020
@@Breboi17 true
@@corymajor7811 Sorry, it's just a fact, she is GOAT officially. She was consistently much faster than everyone else in her prime. Her records still stand today. As for drugs, there is zero proof and other women who did actually take drugs couldn't come close to her times.
Stop spreading fake news.

If she hadn’t “retired” as soon as new testing was implemented and dropped dead from steroid heart damage maybe she could have been the goat!

Long Live The Queen Florence Griffith Joyner Forever!!! Greatest I've ever seen in my lifetime!!! Youngsters go back in time and see the Greatest and understand today what we're talking about!!!
Phenomenal talent Ms FloJo! Thanks for clapping for our “Bronze Queen”, Ms Merlene Ottey. Happy there’s still video of these races because l was a child when they were running, so l hadn’t seen these before 🙂
I absolutely LOVE Merlene Ottey, the Bronze Queen (in more ways than one).
Marlene was a force to be reckoned with!! Flo Jo always showed grace and humble spirit. I hate to see the “ mess” that went on this year . You are our Sisters . No matter what country we represent.
What an incredible woman!
After how many years, she's still The Best, Greatest sprinter in the history till now, nobody breaks her records. 🎉🎊🥉🥈🥇🏅🏆🎖
Her Olympic 100 record went yesterday doubt that WR 10.42 will go but that 200 is doable

I can't get over how pretty Flo Jo was. Let alone the athletism and speed and grace. This woman was just special.
Yessss! Very beautiful and simply special.
In a couple of months, her two World Records, at 100m and 200m, will have stood 34 years undefeated
SHE WAS THE GREATEST .......SHEER CLASS .....
LANCE ARMSTRONG WAS TESTED PROBABLY 100 TIMES MORE THAT FLOJO. Testing clean at events doesn't mean shit. Look at her in 1987 listen to her in 1988.....that is NOT NATURAL. And, conveniently, she immediately retired.....she made a deal with the athletic federations to go away quietly. NOBODY in the sport believes she was clean, she was no better than the East Germans. Wait, let me guess---you think OJ was innocent and Michael Jackson never touched little boys too, right? LOL
