Kakapo

- The Owl parrot has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc of sensory, vibrissa-like feathers, a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, wings and a tail of relatively short length. A combination of traits make it unique among its kind.

There are 225 Kākāpō now and this year around 50 chicks were birthed :)
Great my hope that in some years they aren't endangered comes close. May we can have them as pets in future they are very smart and lovely
amazing
:D
god bless, i have a Kakapo puppet that my niece adores, theyre beyond precious animals in my eyes, glad to know theyre doing well
That's awesome!
Look at this fluffy avacodo. Look at it.
I love it.
It’s a avocado
Yes
Don't disrespect the Kakapo
Cutest cado
I don't know why, but watching them walk is weirdly Fascinating.
Yeah, like almost hypnotic
Long walk to extinction. :(
Yeah, agreed. There is a video of a cassowary chasing someone on a beach that achieves the same effect and someone in the comments reasoned that it was an instinctual thing because walking birds resembled long extinct predators. I found that pretty convincing.
@@ItssssJack Dinosaurs.
They call me Miami Margaret because of all that cocaine I am fucking doing!
It’s like a modern dodo: they lived so long without predators they became incredibly docile. I really hope they will survive and thrive!! I have only just now learned they exist and I already love them! 🤗
We must not make the same mistake as we did with the dodo by introducing predators on the island
sure hope a giant box of cats doesnt wash up on their little islands...😈
I wonder what they taste like.
@@keithwatson8228 you have caused confusion and delay with this comment
@Keith Watson considering they are from the bird family and are land walkers
Something like chicken and duck in terms of taste

Kakapo: *runs down the little trail like a green wobbly egg*
The Kakapo is my favorite animal of all. It's so weird and stupid, it should have gone extinct long ago. It's sad they don't show how he makes walking paths to attract females. If you see that stuff, you'll understand why they are facing extinction. It's a ridiculous mating strategy. These birds have no game. They can't flee from predators. They can't fight. They are ridiculous animals that shouldn't exist. If they were not facing extinction, i would keep a couple as pets in the garden. I would build them a sanctuary to keep them safe from almost everything. Because they are totally hopeless. I love it.
@benanders4412 They facing extinction bcuz from humans..they not stupid for not being able to fly that's how they are.. and then how there are more males than females..
If it wasn't for ppl hunting them b4 they would of been fine
They look lime little avocado chickens. Too cute!
I wished there were more of them so that I could have one as a pet. They are so lovely and cute.

Probably the best animal camouflage ive ever seen. Honestly

Evolution is a lie, and anyone who believes in it is an uneducated moron.
It's not just the plumage that's amazing... The fact that this is a nocturnal, flightless, ground-dwelling parrot amazes me.
Beautiful. My favourite bird. Love their booming call.
Check *_Extinction blog_* in UA-cam
They look like giant Budgies... I want to hug one
I have a budgie that looks exactly like them and is just as fluffy too
I cant believe in 4th grade I discovered this bird for my bird project in science. I leaned so much about them. I love them
Just in case you haven't seen this gem. Sirocco was hand reared and has become a sort of spokesbird for Kakapo. There's some other birds at the beginning but you can skip ahead if you're not interested. Watch to the end because the funniest bit is towards the end. I laugh everytime l see the look on Sirocco's face.
Omg same I’m in 4th grade in school I researched endangered birds and I found the kakapo, such a beautiful round fat fluffy avocado that smells good
@Acceleration Quanta you disgust me
@Acceleration Quanta But, it's just a totally harmless chubby parrot, why would you dislike it?
@Acceleration Quanta osea q no te gustan solo porque no pueden volar? Tu tampoco y no veo a nadie deseándote la muerte más que yo
They look like a mix between an owl and a budgie, very cute❣️☺️
That’s a good description, I was trying to think what they reminded me of! 😊
They look so huggable, I adore them
For anyone who may have been wondering what those other parrots were that had been shown in the video:

1:29 - Galah Cockatoo
1:30 - Lorikeet

They’re so fat and precious!♥️ I think they are flightless.
Yes, they are flightless
I was wondering about that
Living on islands without predators for millions of years causes animals to not only lose the adaptations that kept them safe from predators but also the knowledge that other animals are capable of harming them. That’s why the dodo was a giant pigeon that didn’t even know to run away from the hunters who slaughtered them
I think they are technically flightless, but are capable of sort of big hop flights if that makes any sense. They can get off the ground and into trees
they're up to 205 now, and still climbing!
YES!
YAY!!!🙏💚
That's so nice to see 😢💯
God bless
as of 2024 i hear they are around 244, so so happy their numbers are improving. they are precious
also i saw somewhere that they apparently smell like honey or flowers, which is adorable
New Zealand should deploy a unit of the army to protect them from would be poachers or hunters that want to sell them as pets to unscrupulous buyers.
Should this be done at the expense of humans? Resources that could be used to help humans instead of some random bird. Should they be deployed to protect just this one bird or the bazillions of other endangered species?
New Zealand has minimal problems with poaching. Our biggest issue is introduced predators such as rats and stoats which eat our birds
BVargas78 Once they aren’t endangered but to have one you probably can’t have any other pets except other birds.

@Acceleration Quanta ahhh los animales no son cosas, que clase de mente enferma piensa eso? Primero pense que solo no re gustaban pero ahora me parece ques estás mal de la cabeza
@Acceleration Quanta lol interesting outlook 😅 i was kinda thinking the same thing, but then again what do i care if people wanna devote their lives to this. God love em 😅💗
@Acceleration Quanta you narcissistic dipshit, the sheer amount of technologies and scientific knowledge weird biological outliers afford us in our understanding of our own planet is worth more than you will EVER be worth. you mother should have swallowed you in order to make way for a better off-spring. one that understands lots of stuff we use on our own designs we had to learn from dissecting how stuff is related and where it came from. if there aren't anymore of them we can't learn. Get your facts straight before you try to sound all high and mighty, there is literally a group of people out there who are better at deciding how valuable the preservation of the kakapo vs something that they ACTUALLY DO agree is a waste of human resources (aka devil hole puff fish) ect.
You aren't a cool edge lord for thinking you are more important or scientifically valuable, especially when the sentiment you are attempting to parrot has already been hashed out by smarter people than you that can actually do a tiny bit of research to actually determine the species we can/ can't loose.... just google what you are talking about, and you'll see the kakapo is not the correct one to take your little man syndrome out on....
@Acceleration Quanta makes me wonder if that could be applied to humans, what role do we play in the ecosystem if we destroy so much? Kakapo had no predators before humans arrived so i think the only “mere, animal” here is you, since ur so insensitive.

We absolutely need to save all the endangered species. Only a diverse ecosystem is a healthy and stable ecosystem, so it highly benefits the human race aswell to take good care of all creatures. Especially if they‘re as cute as these little buggers. Doubles the paybackfor us and future generations to be able to watch them. 🥰
>We absolutely need to save all the endangered species.
So we need to obtain perfectl control over the entire biosphere and what we should do with that power is to ensure that everything gets stuck in an infinite loop?
>Only a diverse ecosystem is a healthy and stable ecosystem
There is no "healthy" ecosystems and no. Ecosystems aren't any more stable just because there's lots of different animals. And them being stable isn't good in the first place.
>to take good care of all creatures
You're not taking any care of anyone by freezing "ecosystems" in time. Do you think you benefit rape victims by maintaining rape?
@@MrCmon113
1) We only need to take control of certain parts because we destroyed them with our actions in the first place. Of course evolution can and will always take place, but aside from that never possibly happening anyways, what exactly would be bad about ‚an infinite loop‘?
2) Since we‘re viewing this from the point of a species that wants to survive a healthy ecosystem is one that can sustain life, and a stable ecosystem can do so over a long period of time without a guardian who needs to keep it in check.
Lots of different animals meant lots of different niches are covered and ressources are properly distributed, recycled and used to their full potential. If there were no bacteria that could digest wood, trees would take all the nutrients they stored unavailable for any further use. If there weren‘t bigger creatures that shredded that wood into smaller pieces it would take centuries for one single tree to be broken down completely. Almost all creatures in this world do their part in keeping the system running. We as humans, as any other lifeform aswell, are dependent on the system running smoothly and not collapsing to the point where life can‘t be sustained anymore
3) Tf is wrong with you that you even think that this is anywhere near being comparable?? Preserving natural life for it to eventually be bale to go it’s way without interference isn‘t anything near to a human forcing another human to procreate against their will.
Natural life is just species trying to survive and each doing so in their own ways, so there‘s nothing wrong with helping them achieve that goal if they got disadvantaged by human interference in the first place.
And before you come with that „RapE mAkeS bAbyS, wHich hElp tHe sPeCieS sUrVivE“ bs, no tf it doesn‘t help our survival. We‘re a social species with high cognitive functions and as such are dependent on people working together, so hurting others will most likely just hurt your chance of survival aswell since they won‘t want to have anything to do with you anymore if they‘re not directly dependent on you, thus why it‘s quite commonly understood to be a bad thing for the community and thus a bad thing to hurt others in general.
At least if you care about other people.
Of course with our current numbers there‘ll be plenty of people you won‘t care about directly, but you’ll still be bound to apply the same rules you apply to people you care about, otherwise you‘d risk them returning the violence you hurl their way, which in general history never played out well and tremendously hurt our species survival.
Taxtro "Do you think you benefit rape victims by maintaining rape?"
Average 4channer logic.
The way it bounces and runs at the start is just too cute.
It may not be the best, but that creature has done the unthinkable, and deserves to live and tell its tale.
