Yeah, in retrospect he was really good in License to Kill, even though he wasn't really well received in the role. I've seen him in a few things recently (Penny Dreadful and Chuck, and a Simon Pegg movie IIRC) and he's a really good actor.
Went to Army Basic Training with a man named James Bond. When the Drill Sergeant started yelling our names off the roster he came to Bond. James Bond. And almost couldn't stop laughing.
Anyone else think "The Rock" could have been Sean Connery's last unofficial James Bond film? I mean he's a British spy who has been locked away for 30 years and apparently had a mysterious past that the film did not touch on...
+Andrew Tickel My guess is that Michael Bay and company did it that way on purpose once they landed Connery. I thought it was a neat twist to the plot.
Alice Cooper's version of "The Man with the Golden Gun" is pretty awesome. It was on his "Life and Crimes" compilation. I wouldn't have even known about the song if my roommates hadn't gotten me Life and Crimes for Christmas a bunch of years ago.
Just a note: at around 5:20, the cut to the List Show splash cuts off the the credits so they're unreadable, even slowing down. For the sake of your fellow producers, please don't do this again.
+MrSerrrg88 Nope. Eon won't do it. He may be English born, but he isn't Ethnically English or Ethnically from the UK. It goes against Ian Flemming's characterization of Bond. Besides, Elba himself isn't going to try to get the role because he says he's too old. There will never be a Black Bond. Besides, why change a character to be black? That's pretty racist. Why not delve into the wealth of characters in previously "forgotten" black fiction. Why change a role to fit an actor?
+TGOTR > but he isn't Ethnically English Nor is Sean Connery > or Ethnically from the UK. 1) The character design was English Don't expand it so you can justify your prejudice. 2) Tell Sean Connery he was Ethnically from the U.K. He would not be happy (being part of the SNP). >Besides, why change a character to be black? That's pretty racist What? Bond can change facial features, height, weight, etc but can't change color? And holding one physical characteristic in the same weight as another is racist?
Ian Flemming didn't originally like Sean Connery as Bond because of how horrible of an actor he was, as well as the overwhelming amount of "campy-ness" he brought to the character. Do me a favor and go back and watch the Connery movies...they don't hold up and fall into the category of "so bad they're good." In the books, James Bond is more like how Daniel Craig portrays him... cool, calculating, and deadly. In the books, there is no camp, no Connery Cheeze, and definitely no gadgets (similar to the new bond films). That is why I agree with Roger Moore in thinking Craig is the best bond (thus far). Also, I'd like to see Tom Hardy give it a go next.
+Rory Stevens I would liked to have seen SOUPY SALES as Bond, because it's movie with actors pretending to be somebody that never really existed and is utterly infantile to go on about make believe crap that is barely suitable for children, let alone adults.
i have a question. How do you deliver the video so flawlessly? do you have a transcript nearby that you can read from? do you practice it so much that it becomes second nature? do you improvise?
Elliot so glad to see you back... I would really like to see Tom Feldon or Matthew Lewis play the role of James Bond in the future.. I think they'd be awesome in it
Monty Norman wrote the Bond theme but it was arranged & orchestrated by The late John Barry. Barry went to court saying he basicly wrote what is the Bond theme as he made it what is the now famous guitary jazzy theme we all know, based on the Monty Norman tune. However Barry lost his case.
what about the theory that there are multiple James Bond, and that each actor that plays it is actually playing a different character that uses the code name "James Bond"?
Another bond fact: Roald Dahl and Ian Fleming both worked for British Intelligence during WWII. Their job was to get the US involved in the war. He was the inspiration for Bond's womanizing skills. The things one does for King and Country.
Interesting Bond fact: Connery got the part because Moore wasn't available, Moore got the part when Dalton said he was too young to play the roll, and finally Dalton got the part when Brosnan was unable to take it due to Remmington Steele.
first person to play the role of James Bond was bob Holness .. some of the older viewers will remember the TV legend from the show blockbusters "''b' please bob" .. he played James Bond on a radio show
Burt Reynolds didn't "turn down" the James Bond role - he was never offered it. Director Guy Hamilton mentioned, in an interview, having seen Reynolds on "The Tonight Show" and being impressed with his wit and general sang froid - Hamilton said that he thought Reynolds would be an excellent 007 (he was pretty much the only one who did). On the other hand, both James Brolin and Sam Neil actually screen-tested for the part, and American actor John Gavin actually was contracted for "Diamonds Are Forever" (until Sean Connery came back for one more). And Mel Gibson was never seriously considered, MGM tossed his name out, and the Bond producers at Eon rejected it out-of-hand.
I heard Elliot say "Superfruit" and immediately started paying very close attention. Then I realized he wasn't talking about Superfruit, he was talking about super fruit.
+Daniel Marquez A lot of people seem to think Idris Elba as Bond is a bad idea, but he does seem to be the only British actor with any toughness these days. Who else could they cast, Tim from "The Office"?
+boblowes Yeah I was really only thinking about theatrical movie released James Bond films. Not all the other stuff. I had no idea the other stuff even existed. Lol.
I know I'll catch flack for it, but Moore is my favorite Bond. Growing up, Bond movies were always kind of campy with ridiculous puns, beautiful women, and awesome gadgets. Modern Bond has none of those things.
I heard once that Sam Neill also turned down Bond. I think that was a wise move on his part. He may have closed the door to a lot of the other great parts he did get to do over the years if he had been really successful as Bond.
My fave is Timothy Dalton. I just loved the kinda dark storylines his Bond got into and guys... those eyes. His eyes are hypnotic. Shame he only did two.
A thousand dollars for the rights to turn a (relatively - compared to today) unknown book into a *television* episode back in the 1950s is NOT bad at all. Even today, $5000 for the movie options to a book isn't uncommon.
+FruityVeggieHead Yes, I know. If he were American, I could understand it, but Daniel Craig is English and doesn't say "Creg", so why would you change the pronunciation of his last name? I would be pissed off if people just decided that they were going to start pronouncing my surname completely differently!
Who is "Gert Froob"? Gert Fröbe, pronounced FROH-buh, played Auric Goldfinger. Why wasn't the 1967 'Casino Royale' mentioned at any point? That's another "unofficial" Bond film. It's also actually a "film" unlike the 1954 "Casino Royale" episode of "Climax!" Also, Muse didn't right a Bond theme, they just thought "Supremacy" would have made a good one. Ace of Base, Pulp, and (allegedly) Amy Winehouse *did* right more Bond theme songs that didn't get used. Finally, the Sean Connery cameo rumor for 'Die Another Day' seems a bit off base... Lee Tamahori *may* have wanted such a thing to transpire, but thankfully Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson remembered that Bond is (actually, not just speculatively) an orphan. There is a much more well-founded rumor that the character of Skyfall groundskeeper Kincade was written with Sean Connery potentially in mind, but that character was eventually played by Albert Finney.
The original and longest-lasting Miss Moneypenny was played by Canadian actress Lois Maxwell who took the role to support her family after her husband suffered a massive heart attack. She was payed only £200 for the role in Dr.No and had to supply her own clothes.
I'm not one for Bond movies but, Timothy Dalton was always one of my favorites.
Yeah, in retrospect he was really good in License to Kill, even though he wasn't really well received in the role. I've seen him in a few things recently (Penny Dreadful and Chuck, and a Simon Pegg movie IIRC) and he's a really good actor.
batlin I've been wanting to see Penny Dreadful, it looks good. Him as Rassilon in Doctor Who was perfect.
A license to chill sounds like something Mr Freeze would say in the movie Batman and Robin.
isn't that the movie where the put nipples on batmans suit
LaShaTaTaShaLa that's the one
Raphael Montero lol
LIAM NEESON COULD HAVE BEEN JAMES BOND!!???? That would have been sooooo gooooodddd!!!!!
+Ariel Endsley eh.
No he's to serious to play bond
+Ariel Endsley Taken is basically James Bond.
glad they decided to keep it British actor;British director.
+Ariel Endsley Sam Neill and James Brolin were also in the running to play James Bond in the 80's.
Went to Army Basic Training with a man named James Bond. When the Drill Sergeant started yelling our names off the roster he came to Bond. James Bond. And almost couldn't stop laughing.
dude private bond recruit bond sergeant bond that's IA ducking bad ass
James Bonds are like your virginity. You never forget your first. As such, Brosnan is my favorite.
The list of 00 agents does not stop at 009. The known numbers are 001-0013, possibly with more.
*****
Double-0 agents don't have very long lifespans. They don't need it to go much beyond 0013.
Hydrogen bonds are pretty cool.
+leadfoot9x Chemistry jokes are so boron.
+Waltham1892 But all the good ones Argon.
***** You don't have to be Einsteinium to think up new ones.
Waltham1892 To be perfectly Francium, I don't think any of these puns are very good.
***** But we are trying. Its a Nobelium effort.
Anyone else think "The Rock" could have been Sean Connery's last unofficial James Bond film? I mean he's a British spy who has been locked away for 30 years and apparently had a mysterious past that the film did not touch on...
+Andrew Tickel I wondered that too.
+Andrew Tickel Yeah. I always thought that myself.
+Andrew Tickel My guess is that Michael Bay and company did it that way on purpose once they landed Connery. I thought it was a neat twist to the plot.
Man, I love the Bond movies. Every now and then I'll just binge watch a few.
Elliot lists things like a pro! So charismatic
Liam Neeson as Bond would have been interesting.
+TheRossMadness but Bond does not have a daughter :)
+Macovei Vlad there must be a few somewhere around
+TheRossMadness yeah, the bond girl would get kidnapped
Alice Cooper's version of "The Man with the Golden Gun" is pretty awesome. It was on his "Life and Crimes" compilation. I wouldn't have even known about the song if my roommates hadn't gotten me Life and Crimes for Christmas a bunch of years ago.
WOO! Elliot is back!!! :D
+Michael kaster and there I was, thinking I was the only one happy about it 😉
Liam Neeson as James Bond? Yes please
Just a note: at around 5:20, the cut to the List Show splash cuts off the the credits so they're unreadable, even slowing down. For the sake of your fellow producers, please don't do this again.
+David Devine Well said.
Waiting for Idris Elba to play as the next James Bond!
pretty much
+MrSerrrg88 Nope. Eon won't do it. He may be English born, but he isn't Ethnically English or Ethnically from the UK. It goes against Ian Flemming's characterization of Bond. Besides, Elba himself isn't going to try to get the role because he says he's too old. There will never be a Black Bond.

1) The character design was English Don't expand it so you can justify your prejudice.
2) Tell Sean Connery he was Ethnically from the U.K. He would not be happy (being part of the SNP).
>Besides, why change a character to be black? That's pretty racist
What? Bond can change facial features, height, weight, etc but can't change color? And holding one physical characteristic in the same weight as another is racist?
We need more Elliott videos!
I was hoping you'd mention that Ian Fleming also wrote the children's book "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," the basis for my favourite childhood movie.
How can i have a favorite Bond when there has only ever really been one... Sean Connery.
+Nikolaj Haun Hansen Yep.
Couldn't have said it better myself
+Nikolaj Haun Hansen yup. connery is bond
Ian Flemming didn't originally like Sean Connery as Bond because of how horrible of an actor he was, as well as the overwhelming amount of "campy-ness" he brought to the character. Operation Kid Brother was done on an episode of MST3K where they lampoon the brother's life and compare it with Conory.
i have a question. How do you deliver the video so flawlessly? do you have a transcript nearby that you can read from? do you practice it so much that it becomes second nature? do you improvise?
***** I see, that makes sense. thank you
Elliot so glad to see you back... I would really like to see Tom Feldon or Matthew Lewis play the role of James Bond in the future.. I think they'd be awesome in it
Last time I came this early I needed a new keyboard.
Elliott's back!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?
Casino royale is one of my favourte films outright. I have no idea how some people prefer skyfall over it.
+stuff
Skyfall plays homage to the other films. Some people value that over Casino Royale.
+stuff goldfinger is the best bond film imo. i think people like skyfall because it's cinematic and gorgeous.
No mention of the Casino Royale spoof?
For shame. You left out Casino Royale starring David Niven.
It makes me sad that "Elliott Morgan shirtless" produces no good results on Goolgle
Sean Connery. Dr. No will always be my favourite Bond movie. A romantic snap-shot of that era and still holds up even by todays standards.
ELIOTT HAS RETURNED!!!!
Yay! New Mental Floss! How's it going, Eliott?
the last thing i wanna hear at the start of a mental floss video:
"Hi im Elliot"
what about the theory that there are multiple James Bond, and that each actor that plays it is actually playing a different character that uses the code name "James Bond"?
I knew 17 of these!
Favourite has to be Craig followed closely by Connery.
Another bond fact: Roald Dahl and Ian Fleming both worked for British Intelligence during WWII. Their job was to get the US involved in the war. He was the inspiration for Bond's womanizing skills. The things one does for King and Country.
why is it that no one ever seems to talk about the Peter Sellars? Hello? First version of Casino Royale? It was hilarious.
YAH! Elliott's back!
Craig not Creg
Interesting Bond fact: Connery got the part because Moore wasn't available, Moore got the part when Dalton said he was too young to play the roll, and finally Dalton got the part when Brosnan was unable to take it due to Remmington Steele.
Elliott is backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
Great job
ELLIOTT! I've missed you!
first person to play the role of James Bond was bob Holness .. some of the older viewers will remember the TV legend from the show blockbusters "''b' please bob" .. he played James Bond on a radio show
Pierce Brosman is the best bond. He just looks so... James Bond.
+Payton Marria then you are a late 90 to 00 kid like me
+FallensAnger 1995! Hahaha.
Brosnan** I fucked up.
1997, just you wait until you hear me trying pronounce his name then you know who fucked up :P
+Payton Marria No, you are so wrong.
Radiohead also wrote a theme for Spectre that got dumped in favor of Sam Smith.
You didn't mention the Casino Royale film starring David Niven & Woody Allen released in 1967 (I think) which was a comedy based around a retired 007.
But George Lazenby (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) was actually Fleming's first choice for Bond.
Elliot Elliot its Elliot! YES!
Brosnan is my Bond.
I love Goldeneye, it's probably my new favorite, but Skyfall is amazing
Connery, of course!
😂 googled the popsicles was not disappointed
Burt Reynolds didn't "turn down" the James Bond role - he was never offered it. Director Guy Hamilton mentioned, in an interview, having seen Reynolds on "The Tonight Show" and being impressed with his wit and general sang froid - Hamilton said that he thought Reynolds would be an excellent 007 (he was pretty much the only one who did). Idris Alba is my favorite 007
I'd love to watch Liam as bond
Moore for the win people!
I heard Elliot say "Superfruit" and immediately started paying very close attention. Then I realized he wasn't talking about Superfruit, he was talking about super fruit.
Ian Flemming based James bond on his cousin, Christopher Lee, and was inspired by all the war stories told to him during golf.
He's back??
Who's ready for black Bond?
+Daniel Marquez A lot of people seem to think Idris Elba as Bond is a bad idea, but he does seem to be the only British actor with any toughness these days. Who else could they cast, Tim from "The Office"?
Huh... I was sure that George Lazenby was the first James Bond.
nope 2nd
+boblowes Yeah I was really only thinking about theatrical movie released James Bond films. Not all the other stuff. I had no idea the other stuff even existed. Lol.
Interesting!
Hey Elliott, how is it going? We missed you!
I know I'll catch flack for it, but Moore is my favorite Bond. Growing up, Bond movies were always kind of campy with ridiculous puns, beautiful women, and awesome gadgets. Modern Bond has none of those things.
Mr. Biswas almost had the James Bond theme?!?!
My favourite would have been Pierce Brosnan if he'd used no more weapons and/or bullets than Roger Moore did in "Man With The Golden Gun".
Daniel Craig and his cute pout and I can't wait for Idris Elba, he'll be awesome as Bond
Damnit. A Muse Bond song would be amazing
I heard once that Sam Neill also turned down Bond. I think that was a wise move on his part. He may have closed the door to a lot of the other great parts he did get to do over the years if he had been really successful as Bond.
dude Clint Eastwood would be badass!
+DaehanMD Bond, James Bond. Now you have to ask yourself one question, do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk!?
+johnlong2k9 or while he looks at the villain right before he shoots "get of my lawn"
DaehanMD LOL
My fave is Timothy Dalton. I just loved the kinda dark storylines his Bond got into and guys... those eyes. His eyes are hypnotic. Shame he only did two.

you missed peter sellers' run as james bond.
look it up and watch the movie.
it's weird, but worth it.
Only 27 facts? I feel like there could have been so many more!
In order: Connery, Brosnan, Craig
Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond, Sean Bean my favorite villain, and Ben Whishaw as Q is perfect imo.
If only it was episode 420 today :(
I would watch a James Bond movie with a Muse song in it!
my favorite bond is the peptide bond
Liam Neeson as Bond... JFC I really want to see that now XD
pierce is my fave. but i like something about all of them
Liam Neeson turned down a role of Bond?!
Why Liam? That would have been amazing.
+prismaticcrow Liam would have been the best bond.
2:52 I don't remember where I heard this, but I think there was a 000 (Triple 0) agent, or something.
+GrillburgerDAQ They call me the full house, 00666. ;)
Don't even like James Bond, I'm just here for Elliott.
003 was killed in the video game Everything or Nothing.
I'm a Sean Connery fan all the way, I did enjoy Daniel Craig, but if I had to choose, I'll with Mr. Connery.
Hey nice shirt
Sean Connery is THE Bond. The man is 85 year old and still considered sexy by a lot of people.
It's Daniel Craig, not "Creg".
That is how Craig is pronounced with a Standard American accent
+FruityVeggieHead
Yes, I know. If he were American, I could understand it, but Daniel Craig is English and doesn't say "Creg", so why would you change the pronunciation of his last name? I would be pissed off if people just decided that they were going to start pronouncing my surname completely differently!
+FruityVeggieHead as an american that's not how i pronounce craig. wtf?
$1000 in the early 1950s was a good piece of change.
ELLIOTT I'VE MISSED U
Who is "Gert Froob"? Gert Fröbe, pronounced FROH-buh, played Auric Goldfinger.
Why wasn't the 1967 'Casino Royale' mentioned at any point? That's another "unofficial" Bond film. It's also actually a "film" unlike the 1954 "Casino Royale" episode of "Climax!"

There is a much more well-founded rumor that the character of Skyfall groundskeeper Kincade was written with Sean Connery potentially in mind, but that character was eventually played by Albert Finney.
Pierce Brosnan had the coolest gadgets.
Nice.
The best Bond was George Lazenby and I won't even hear any arguments to the contrary. He was the only Bond who wasn't some sick cartoon.
The original and longest-lasting Miss Moneypenny was played by Canadian actress Lois Maxwell who took the role to support her family after her husband suffered a massive heart attack. She was payed only £200 for the role in Dr.No and had to supply her own clothes.
My favourite Bond is Johnny English.
They actually tried to cast me as James Bond. I turned them down because I'm too busy
Who is Daniel Kreg?
I knew "Operation Kid Brother" as "Operation Double 007" from the MST3K episode that riffed it. Ah, ye classics.
