    The editing and the overlaying really explains the phenomenon in the ocean. Short, sweet and informative. Great intro and overview of ocean stratification.
    Thank you!

    This is a beautiful video. The music really helped me see the magic in how all of this works- and took away the stress of trying to learn something like this for school- thank you so much!

    I would be grateful to know some numbers:
    Let's say, at a location in the Pacific ocean 50 nautical miles west of the Scripps Institute of San Diego, California, USA.
    specific gravity of the upper layer;
    specific gravity of the lower layer,
    approximate dept (vertical distance) of the pycnocline from the surface
    Thank you for the video.

    • @ocnogfr
      @ocnogfr 4 роки тому

      I don't have numbers for the specific gravity, but the density would be about 1023 kg/m^3 near the surface and 1025 kg/m^3 in deeper waters, and the pycnocline would be at between about 5 to 30 m below the surface (it depends on wind and waves, as well as heating/cooling).

    That's phenomenon mentioned in holy book in Quran
    Surah Al-Furqan, Verse 53
    "And He it is Who has made two seas to flow freely, the one sweet that subdues thirst by its sweetness, and the other salt that burns by its saltness; and between the two He has made a barrier and inviolable obstruction."

    • @rubiniosity
      @rubiniosity 8 років тому +8

      what ? there is no barrier though , not an invoilable one that is , just a density gradient .
      also it seems to be a false dichotomy which is stated there with the two seas. there isn´t just sweet and salty water , there is water with all kinds of salinities and even different kinds of salts and other solutes.

    Sir why the surface water of the ocean has lack of nutrients inspire of sunlight and why the bottom layer of ocean has rich nutrients inspire of less or no sunlight, pls solve my doubt if anyone knows.

    • @whatabouttheearth
      @whatabouttheearth 9 місяців тому

      Because things die and poop and the remains of the dead and poop are full of nutrients, so they sink deeper to where light rays from the sun don't reach because the light gets scattered and dissipates.
      A. Dead and poop full of nutrients fall lower
      B. Light can only penetrate the water so much so the lower waters have less or no light.

    An-Nur 24:40
    أَوْ كَظُلُمَٰتٍ فِى بَحْرٍ لُّجِّىٍّ يَغْشَىٰهُ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ سَحَابٌۚ ظُلُمَٰتٌۢ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ إِذَآ أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُۥ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَىٰهَاۗ وَمَن لَّمْ يَجْعَلِ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن نُّورٍ
    Or [they are] like darknesses within an unfathomable sea which is covered by waves, upon which are waves, over which are clouds - darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand [therein], he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allah has not granted light - for him there is no light.

    Halocline, barrier between 2 seas, barrier between fresh water and sea water or other similar phenomenon :
    Check quran
    Sura Al Furqan, chapter 25 verse 53,
    sura An Naml, chapter 27 verse 61,
    Sura Ar Rahman, chapter 55 verse 19 & 20

    He has set free the two seas meeting together. There is a barrier between them. They do not transgress. (Quran, 55:19-20)

      Are you insane? There are way more than 2 seas..Seems like allah wasnt all powerful.

    • @whatabouttheearth
      @whatabouttheearth 9 місяців тому

      😂 well, that's wrong related to this because there isn't a barrier in the water layers
      The seas in reference where the Indian and Atlantic. The writers of all holy books didn't even know where the oceans ended, nor did they know what stars were, how plants grew, or anything else.
      Religions are ideological power structures made by ignorant ancient people, and that's the actual truth.

    hold up.....ocean...fresh water on top? isnt ocan all about salty water...and as you go down below...you get more salty water...so picnoclyne might only apply to brackish/briny water...or i didnt get the point of this video..

    • @cgtharp86
      @cgtharp86 9 років тому +1

      Orka DRLJAČA Heavier more saline water like you said is found at the bottom, whereas the more "fresh" (less salty) water float on top. Think of a helium balloon floating. It is also a gas but is lighter than air. Similar to the salt water of the ocean, warm more fresh water tends to float as the heavier more salty sinks.

    Or (their deeds) are like layers of darkness in a vast deep sea overwhelmed by a wave, above which there is another wave, above which there are clouds - layers of darkness, one above the other. When one puts forth his hand, he can hardly see it; and the one to whom Allah does not give light can have no light at all. quran.com/24/40

      Shut your blind mouthhole. Don't bring religion into something like this, you intrusive fuck. The Quran is every bit as full of shit as the fucking bible. Have a nice day.

      So vague. That's just post facto rationalization for ideological brainwashing.
      They didn't even know what made plants grow or what the stars were.
