- What did you think of my interview with Doctor Whos' Sophie Aldred?
LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS!
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to interview Sophie Aldred, who played Ace in the 1980s version of Doctor Who. She recently made a return to the show in the most recent episode, "The Power of the Doctor," and I was eager to learn more about her experience both then and now.
The interview took place backstage at Supanova on the Gold Coast, where Sophie was gracious enough to chat with me about her time on set. We discussed what it was like working on Doctor Who in the 80s, and how the show has evolved over the years. Sophie shared some fascinating stories about her experiences working with the different Doctors and companions of the time, and gave me some insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the show.
Of course, I couldn't let her go without asking about her recent return to Doctor Who. We talked about what it was like to come back to the show after so many years, and how she felt about working with Jodie Whittaker. Sophie had nothing but praise for Jodie, and it was clear that she was thrilled to be a part of such an iconic show once again.
And, of course, we had to discuss the famous jacket that Ace wore on the show. Sophie shared the story of how the jacket came to be, and the significance it has held for her over the years. It was a fascinating conversation, and I was grateful to have the chance to talk to Sophie about such an important part of Doctor Who history.
Overall, it was an incredible experience to interview Sophie Aldred. She was kind, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about Doctor Who and its history. I'm so grateful to have had the chance to sit down and chat with her, and I hope that viewers enjoy our conversation as much as I did.

Ace was such a breathe of fresh air in doctor who companions, such a shame that her time was cut short.
Would love to have an Ace story like “School Reunion”
Would LOVE an episode like that with her! As much as I loved Ace & Tegan in power of the doctor, that could have been awesome!
Might I recommend the tenth doctor classic companions boxset from big finish?
Her voice always puts me into such a realm of peace
We can thank Power of the Doctor for these interviews!
Thank you Power of the Doctor!!!
My late-80s childhood bedroom was plastered with pictures of Ace:, drawings of her I'd done, magazine cut-outs, photographs. I had the Dapol figure of her. I even recreated her baseball bat using tinfoil, newspaper and papier-mâché. The Curse of Fenric was my favourite Ace story. The haemovores gave me nightmares for years, though. I used to spend countless hours laid in bed trying to practise having complete faith in something.
Sophie was actually the reason I started watching Doctor Who. I saw an advert for the first episode of Remembrance of the Daleks and it had Sophie from Corners in it, so I decided to watch it. From the first episode I was blown away. It quickly became my favourite TV show, and now in my 40s, it still is.
Ace was really the template for where the show went when RTD revived it in 2005. Season 26 especially was very Ace-focussed, exploring her backstory and confronting her trauma with Ghost Light, Fenric, and Survival.
Aww that's so amazing! 🥺
I crushed on Sophie when she was first on Doctor Who.
Lol even im not that old.
Aaaah, I’ve met Sophie a few times in Edinburgh. Had such a great time with her! She was so adorable and really genuine, I felt like a special person, when in fact she was the special person❤
Sophie is such a wonderful person! Fantastic interview. Very well done, Crispy!
Thank you very much!
That was a great interview and you are a great interviewer
I so hope we get to see Ace (and any other returning companions tbh) again on screen
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
What a lovely interview!! You have a great presence, and it really makes the stars open up and be funny and be honest. I enjoyed your interview with Janet, and this was just as fun and informative
Ace is in my top 3 companions of all time
She's amazing!
Loving these interviews Crispy! From someone on Australia's West Coast - living vicariously through your excitement at these cons!!! Awesome
Great interview! I love the mental image of these girls going clubbing circa 1987, wearing their black polyester bomber jackets covered in badges, and Sophie being totally inspired by that!
This is a great video! You always make some great Doctor Who content, and I hope you can continue to make these interviews for a long time now, along with many other fantastic (wink, wink) videos! As they say, Allons-y!
I love her so much, thank you both for the interview 🥺
Ace was my First Companion, so she’s my favorite.
Wonderful interview. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for asking my question crispy 🙏
Thanks for the good question!
I have a memory of when I saw Sophie in a programme for BBC Schools called Words and Pictures, which you australians are unaware of this after Doctor Who had finished? Now when I look back watching Words and Pictures when Sophie sometimes read a book, it got me thinking, Ace is a very good storyteller.
She is just... impossibly sweet and cute
Nice work mate! Lovely interview :)
Great interview crispy thank you for featuring my question
#Crispyforshowrunner
She is such a lovely person 😍
She is legendary!
What another great interview crispy it would have been such a pleasure to have chatted to her so good. I did get a photo op with her back in 2010 supernova in Melbourne was that was cool l, great job and good selection of questions 😎👌🏻
Thank you very very much!
Great interview! Ace is my favorite companion, and I love Sophie!
Thank you! She was so lovely to talk to!
I love Sophie Aldridge as ace and ace is my third favourite doctor who and at some point in the future I am probably going to meet her when I go back to the UK for good at doctor who convershon
She is a really nice person I got to interview her last year for my UA-cam channel
Thats awesome!
Nice interview
My favorite tv character all my life
What a Queen ♥️
QUEEEEENNN
A true Doll. Love her.
The best!
Awwww awesome Go Crispy !!
ACE‼️
AHHHHH
Named two cats after her Ace and Sophie
I thought Corners was Sophie's first TV job. Did Doctor Who precede that?
Corners was before Doctor Who, but it's a different kind of TV. She was more like a host for Corners, while Ace was a 'proper' acting role.
I hoped to have gone to Armageddon Expo tomorrow and meet Sophie Aldred and got her autograph. A shame I can't go. :(
She seems so nice :)
She was so lovely off camera too!
I feel both Ace and Sophie never aged in terms of personality.
Agreed! So young at heart!
I met her
Ace interview
NICE
Great design
Why are they (DW Actors) only coming to Queensland not NSW?!!!
She's still ❤❤ sorry childhood crush 😂
NO WAY
Yes way!
I cant believe you didn't pin this comment Crispy
It's probably best Ace didn't get trained up on Gallifrey, with the eventual time war thing.
You never know... could have been an interesting story to tell? Ace at the demise of Gallifrey!
She did, in big finish. A brilliant story, I loved it.
I'm always a little annoyed by the "would you return to the show for an episode" question. The answer is always gonna be yes, they would like to work. Especially the ones who are already doing Big Finish...
Not necessarily. Peter Capaldi has no interest in coming back for example
Sometimes they say no!
This muzak is....
.
She looks like Ace... weird
