My playground as a kid in the 1960's - I lived in paradise and just took it for granted!

Nice video! Thanks for sharing :)
What a beautiful view. Nice video!
amazing scenery, this is breathtaking!
I grew up at Collaroy Beach and used to walk to Long Reef with my dog after school in the 60s. You can't see the geological striations on the north side of the reef from this film because it is high tide (it is very special in geological history). It is a tombolo (like Palm Beach) which you can see here, but the film has been taken at high tide, so you can't quite see how extensive the rock platform is. It is still a remarkably handsome piece of film and I am very pleased to see local council has helped preserve the Reef with walking tracks which help prevent deterioration of the soft red rock which is very vulnerable to erosion. Unfortunately, local councils along all the northern beaches have allowed such obscene overdevelopment of the area that the natural beauty of the area from my girlhood is completely destroyed. This area was paradise on earth growing up. Luckily this little tiny piece of it was a bloody golf course! otherwise it would be lost too. But you can still see it is very beautiful on the point of the Reef, thank goodness. Thank you for the film.
Tosca - see my other comment; as you say, "paradise on earth growing up". I was a Dee Why boy but usually walked along the beach to Long Reef for better body surfing.
@@David_P132 It really was such a special place to live. My family used the floodlit tidal pool at Collaroy on summer nights. It was a 5 minute walk from our house. The street we lived in had Arts and Crafts houses - all destroyed for apartment developments on every single block of land or combined blocks. Two new streets were developed on the side of Collaroy Plateau, which destroyed the micro climate of Collaroy against the Plateau. Ron and Valerie Taylor were neighbours (www.tdisdi.com/diving-pioneers-and-innovators/ron-and-valerie-taylor/) and the vibe of the area then is completely gone. In fact, you might agree, the council practiced over development in Dee Why first. It's actually distressing for me to go to the area now. Catching waves with dolphins at Collaroy and Narrabeen was common - you had to double check the fins, of course. Sadly, it really is a different world there now, but at least the Reef is still visible and able to be enjoyed.
@@tosca... I wonder how much pressure local councils over the years have been subjected to by developers with greedy eyes on the golf course. Dee Why of course was the pioneer/stalking horse for unit development on the Northern Beaches - most blocks of land getting three-storey unit blocks decades ago, especially on the beach side of Pittwater Road. On the Cromer side too I guess . . .
@@David_P132 Well, exactly. Just everywhere. When I was in my teens Warringah Council was sacked at least twice. Were council chambers in the car park on the Cromer side with the library? I may have that wrong.... Then later it was divided up and Pittwater Council was formed between Warringah and Kuringai. I reckon Shipmates and Flight Deck would have been developed by totally corrupt everybody! And that was on land which had been completely washed away in the 1930s and a few more times besides. Utterly irresponsible considering the major piece of infrastructure of Pittwater Road - the only way past Mona Vale! And nowhere else for an alternative roadway because of the Plateau, the Lake and Ingleside/Terry Hills on the other side of Elanora Heights. I remember council loading up the beach with those super giant boulders all along the beach EXCEPT in front of those five houses that were almost washed away a few years ago. Shipmates and Flight Deck got the boulders. Remember council expected those five houses to pay for remediation? With major public infrastructure of Pittwater Road at their front gates? That was all so dodgy. Those poor (sort of silly for buying there) landholders were totally sucker punched by council imo. I don't remember any other properties paying millions for giant boulders. But any development on that side of the road was all wrong always. Among so many other things. Yes, Dee Why was terrible already in the 60s. Every quarter acre block with a house on it became apartments. Paul Vautin (Fatty?) owned a big house on Fisherman's Beach which you would have walked past looking for waves. I reckon there was some weird stuff there. It was literally the only bit of Collaroy not overdeveloped. That whole section from Kerslake's Bakery to the Collaroy headland. No overdevelopment there at all. Alexander Street became a disaster too.... At least the Dee Why Lagoon became a bird sanctuary after community action for years. Sort of the only good thing done for Dee Why. And totally agree - if the Reef wasn't a golf course, it would have been gone!
Another perfect video. Keep it up this channel!
