"You never know what You have until it's gone ... and I wanted to know what I had, so I got rid of everything ..." This joke was so good, it made him break character :)
@@malcolmdrake6137 Mitch Hedberg is VERY much like Wright. Everyone knows this. Do a Google search about it and come back two days later when you finish seeing all the articles written about it.
At the beginning, he’s Rip Van Winkle, a character in a Washington Irving story in which he falls asleep for twenty years and misses the American Revolution.
Y’all should listen to Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey. It’s a lot of one liners that used to be on SNL. Good work guys! I’m laughing my ass off to your videos!
Seinfeld had a special called "I'm Telling You for the Last Time", where he dragged out all his old jokes and supposedly told them for one last time. The intro to the special was a funeral where the jokes were getting buried. The congregation, IIRC, consisted of other comedians. I wonder if Steven Wright's intro was a weird permutation of Seinfeld's opening. I might be stretching that thought a bit far. but I've never seen this before.
You cats have to react to Redd Foxx "Confucius Say" I don't believe there is any video of this, only audio but I've seen y'all react to audio only on your channel in the past. Primo stuff from the best comedian ever in my opinion of course. Check it out fellas do the world of F-Lab a HUGE solid.

Ignoring the weird opening, this is comparable to what I remember reading on Laughy Taffy's and grade school joke books. How are folks calling him 'genius,' 'masterful,' 'GOAT,' 'godfather?'....
There was actually a bit on the Opie and Anthony radio show years back where Jim Norton and some other comics basically said what you're saying. They did a bit where they read Steven Wrights jokes out loud and realised most of them aren't funny at all unless they're being said in his voice.
@@HippoOnABicycle His voice is certainly important, but that's not where it ends. Delivery is crucial and his timing was spot on. And there's more as well; not every line has to be hilarious, you know. To many people, to be strange, amusing, insightful and maybe even profound is quite entertaining enough. Steven often came at life in a unique angle and that was essential to the package as a whole. He is great.
@@insunatic5062 Agreed, delivery and timing is crucial, however, being unique doesn't equate to the proclamation of awesomeness and genius that some of the comments suggest and makes me SMH. There are SO many better comedians during Wright's time, before and now.
@@emmakai2243 I think to FULLY appreciate him you actually do have to put him in that category of unique. Sure, we can talk about others past and present and how they may be "funnier" then him, but I don't really measure Steven by those others. He is just a horse of a different color and I appreciate that for what it is. It may seem strange, but a memorable and valuable comedian isn't always about how funny they are all the time. I also believe in those that give you pause and make you think about what was just said. I think you'll agree with that. He is a "genius" and "masterful" at what HE does.
Fun fact: Steven Wright played the "Sleeping on the Coach Guy" in Half Baked 😂
A short but brilliant performance!
He was the radio voice in Reservoir Dogs also.

The coach? I dont remember them.

Steven Wright is a masterful genius when it comes to one-liners. That's one of the strangest opens for a comedy show that I've watched.

K-Billy’s super sounds of the 70’s
Yes! I was desperately going through this comment section to see if anyone else knew that reference
Steven Wright was Hedberg before Hedberg, and lived with one of the best writers of the 20th century, Kurt Vonnecgut.
I think the opening was "this is how it feels waiting for the other person to make a chess move "
"Let's ask the 'guy on the couch'!" 😂😂
Yes. I was trying to figure out where I knew him from lol Thanks.
Yo the guy! Did you kill my dog?
Is it August?
Yessssss! The Godfather himself. Such smart and imaginative writing.
He is the predecessor of mitch Hedberg, demetri martin, caleb elliot, and josh johnson
Check out the latter 2

So Wright. Many, many excellent jokes.
Watching you two during the opening of this made my day, lmfao
That opening must’ve been downloaded directly from a dream.
Mystery solved... Steven Wright was the man on the couch all along.

The Salvador Dali joke is one of my favorites. A surreal joke about a surreal painter by a surreal comedian.
Watching yall watch that opening was weird and hilarious.

7:27 to skip long intro

Loved him in Chappells ‘Half Baked’. 🤣😎
He was playing against Father Time.
That opening was sick. 👍
I think the song in the intro is Moonlight Sanata
Yes! More Steven Wright! 😁
Alice in wonderland 's place was called wonderland.
Rodney Dangerfield is by far the king of the one liners, no competition!!
Another comedian: Harland Williams. Pretty whacky at times
