I have really enjoyed your videos, especially this one. Without proper records, it is hard to be successful. One area that I need help with is keeping up with inventory/sales. Maybe you could address this in your future videos. I want to commend you on your website. You have obviously spent a lot of time and it is very helpful. Thanks for all the information.
Thanks, that is a really good question. Here is what we do but didn't show for the sake of simplicity. If we bought or propagated 100 Arborvitaes and planted 50 in #1 pots and 50 in # 3 pots - we then put the expected revenue out to the right in the column for the year we expect to sell them. Then you can add the columns for a year and see your expected sales. by year. This takes in Spring and Fall sales so you get a decent idea of your annual sales. What happens in reality is some of those #1 and # 3 plants don't grow as fast or maybe don't sell in the expected year. So, we will make another row in the spreadsheet for the #1 plants that took an extra year and same for the #3. Just move the revenue on the right to the year that they sold. This gives you a decent idea of past sales by size and time to grow. Completely agree good records are a big help and planning where you want to be in 1-5 years is really necessary to actually getting there. Hope that helps and answered the question, Larry
Thanks for the question. We primarily have plant sales and use Marketplace. Also a little wholesale. There is a lot of demand for plants in our area and selling isn't too much of a problem. We do grow a lot of border plants such as Arborvitae, Skip Laurel, and 3 types of Spruces. People generally buy these 5-10 or more at a time. When they come to pick these up they often buy other plants. Thanks for watching!
We will have a video on some selling tips this Spring. This is so varied around the country but we do want to show what we do and share some ideas. Thanks again 🌲🌲🌲
I am more of the garage sale type grower. I have focused on growing and selling fig trees. I have planted twenty five varieties of fig trees that thrive in my growing zone and will grow plants taken as cuttings from those plants. In the past I have sold fifty to one hundred plants a year, but in the next few years my plan is to scale that number up. Greenhouse space is my next hurdle. I would love to put in two large greenhouses, one for sales and one as a grow space. This would allow me to free up space in my house.
This would depend on the state you live in. Some states do require that you collect sales tax and remit it. You can google to find your states tax collection department, see what is taxable. If tax is required you can apply as an individual, corporate or partnership. It is a bit of work but not all that difficult. Good luck!
Thank you for watching! We have had trouble with audio in the past. This video seems OK but perhaps we should turn it up even more. Thanks for letting us know. 🌲🌲🌲
I forgot to mention that this year I have started to branch into other fruits. This year I will offer two different grape varieties, three willow tree varieties, three different shrub varieties of course this is all based on the success of the cutting success.

How do you guys sell your product? Are people coming to your home to purchase or are you selling the plants wholesale?

I would love to see a video of how your market and operate your plant sales!

Wow, great! You are well on your way. Just keep pushing!
Do you need a sales tax number to re-sell plants and collect tax?

Folks, you've got to invest in a better microphone! You have great comment but I can't hear you - LOL

Very nice! Good plan starting many cuttings, they don't all make so good to have many cutting and many varieties.
