    If you liked that last high note you really ought to check out his rendition of "You raise me up" - One octave challenge.

    Gosh, I was waiting for you to check out Tommy's phantom. I think vocally it is Tommy's best work. You are a talented musician ans singer so I wanted to hear your opinion. Making these two voices so different is astonishing. You can hear the difference between vulnerable fragile Christine and the harsh mad phantom Erik. And then the harmonies in it is so great. And the range he is going to is just unreal. I believe it is a C6. It shows his talent and the way he is holding that note up there. The control he has is absolutely incredible. Goosebumps all over

    I might be wrong but that last note is really high even for a like ultra soprano and when a man sings it makes it even more extreme! This is some of the craziest stuff i ever heard a guy sing!

    That one guitar riff is imitating a fugue organ kind of sound, giving it an unholy atmosphere. Very cool effect. Clever.

    Ooo! I love this song! Seen the musical. Tommy has an amazing voice. I grew up during all the hair band rock (rockers?), we call it Poodle Rock bc of the hairstyle. He has some of that for sure. Huge fan of Tommy! He can also play loads of instruments. Nice reaction 👍👍👍🌹 Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪

    I know I suggested to you several times to react to Tommy and you seemed a bit hesitant, until you finally listened to Majestica Above The Sky.
    Now I think you got an understanding as to why I kept suggesting Tommy to you.😄 I knew you would like BOTH his voice and his guitarplaying.
    May I suggest you do a video more focused on the guitar next, though there are some singing as well?
    Emerald from Thin Lizzy or one of his Gary Moore covers.

    I see you did this a year ago!! I have been missing out as I am new to Tommy but a devoted fan already. This is the second time I have warched his Phantom. I was kind of surprised that you did not mention the very appropriate location that he found to shoot this video in-- I found that added so much to the spirit of the song. Anyway, Tommy kills this performance as he does in all of his. I also find his personality infectious. Looking forward to seeing more of Tommy on your channel! 😊

    Hi Jeff! Have a listen to the same song done by Floor Jansen and Henk Poort at Beste Zanger show. 😏 If you enjoyed Tommy's performance, you'll definitely enjoy Floor and Henk. Also, give a listen to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score performed live at Waken 2013 concert. I guarantee your comments section will be invaded by us, the Nightwish army 😁
    And to answer your question, my first reaction when listening to Tommy's rendition of this song was goose bumps. Simple as that. This guy is awesome!

    A note about Tommy's vocal techniques...1st keep in mind that English isn't his 1st language, so some passages are just wobbly bc of pronunciations. Also, he uses alot of vibrato on this song. Lastly, Tommy sings with open mouth, upper teeth always visible, to control his airflow/power thru his teeth...maybe there's an actual term for that technique..? .
    And, for the more petite headbangers... I have an almost child's sized head, and I rock out with Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones...
    Bluetooth, long-lasting charge and an app for adjusting the EQ sound. They're an investment...but I highly recommend these cans!

    • @ekanimation
      @ekanimation Рік тому +1

      I think the teeth thing is because of the rounded front vowels (especially our versions of y, u) used in Swedish. Also we have a tendency to prunouce more in the front of our mouths in general I think.
      I would love others thoughts on this so go check out some Swedes speaking Swedish and come back and tell me what you think about my theory :)

    • @amygoodson-catlady
      @amygoodson-catlady Рік тому +2

      @@ekanimation That's a very smart theory! Maybe I'm wrong about it being a singing technique, and it's more a pronunciation thing... I hope others will join this conversation!

      His diction is actually very good - when it comes to singing the universal language is phonology, and yes he does utilise a lot of forward vowels, though there are some instances where he will utilise mid and back vowels. It could be out of general habit if his spoken language naturally has a lot of forward placed vowel sounds, as well as the genre of music he has traditionally done (rock uses forward vowels a lot).
      The other factor is that the forward place vowel for the notes he's going to (which are difficult for a woman, let alone a man lol) allow him to get his tongue further forward and lifted so there's more room to bring up the larynx.
      As for the breath technique, that's all done in the diaphragm and thoracic cage (rib cage), well before the air is passing through the glottis (vocal chords). When you are seeing someone singing and the facial tissue around the upper lip is pulled up, that's generally because the soft palate is being raised, and the reason the soft palate is being raised is to create resonance (the correct and healthy way to add volume, basically) so you get as much of that frequency coming out of the mouth rather than going through the nasal cavity (and having a nasal sound).
      Soft palate a little hard to describe but if you go to a mirror and open your mouth, you'll see that arch of tissue at the roof of your mouth just before the back of the throat. If you then imitate something like yawning, you'll see it expanding and opening up, and that's basically what a raised palate is. The facial muscles below the eyes help to keep the palate raised (which is what is happening when you see the scrunched nose in a singer) because they don't want to be using any muscles around the mandible (jaw bone) to prevent any tension down there.
      If you were to want to have the soft palate raised, but then force your face to look neutral, then it would engage a lot of muscles in the cheeks and mandible to bring it back down which leads to jaw tension, and jaw tension is a big no-no for singing as it starts tensing up the platysma (big muscle from our mandible to our shoulders). That's also the reason why a lot of teachers keep reminding their students to "relax the shoulders", as ideally you want as little tension as humanly possible in the platysma.
      Apologies for going super technical, but you seemed like you were interested to know. :)

      @James Ah, James! What a fantastic lesson! Ty so much for taking the time! I never took lessons to know the technicalities, but I do sing every day, and know the importance of a relaxed jaw and shoulders! I hope others will read that comment and get their learning on! Lol... love love that you took the time to explain all that in technical terms! Hope to catch you in other comments... I'm a Team Tommy promoter, so you may run into me again...do say hey! Have a great week!
