I live here and have landed in blinding snow with crazy crosswinds.. These guys do it day in day out.. We had 12 feet of snow 2011-2012 and this airport didn't miss a heartbeat..
Seriously one of the most increadible underrated videos on youtube planespotting... loved the close up roaring takeoffs of those 747s and MD11s which we rarely see today 20 years later 👌
Since china and America do a lot of trade, and since the cargo can be heavy, they generally stopover in anchorage. Because Alaska and Asia are pretty close. Most flights there are cargo 747s
@japancoolness Actually that's an Alaska Airlines retro plane. It's called the Starliner 75, and was painted to celebrate their 75th anniversary in business. It's one of 7 or 8 specially painted planes they operate, and is my favorite of all. Very sharp looking plane. I've flown on it and seen it many times. Still just a 737 inside, but a pretty plane to behold.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is also a major cargo hub. As of 2010, it ranked as the fifth busiest airport in the world by cargo traffic,
I really liked this vid. to be so close o the action is awesome. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is also a major cargo hub. As of 2010, it ranked as the fifth busiest airport in the world by cargo traffic.........
Besides Alaska Airlines, China Airlines, Delta, Continental, US Airways, and Northwest all offer year-round passenger service out of Anchorage International. Air Canada, American, Frontier, and Condor all operate seasonally.
@conoramoia Yes and there are separate terminals for domestic and international flights. Look at it with google earth and you will also see the world's largest float plane base
@williewill037 Besides you can reach nearly every destination in the asian and american area from PANC nonstop. For that reason PANC is a good hub for cargo as well
Excellent -- I really like the IMC takeoffs, and I don't know if another video shows so many MD-11s (a very photogenic airplane). Detailed sound impressive too!
Great film work! Amazing watching planes takeoff... It's such and illusion because it appears here going 10 mph when the land or takeoff when in reality there going fast! Thanks for a gr8 video!
Hmonggodwetrust Hmong There are several airports in Anchorage including Ted Stevens (featured in video), LHD, Campbell Airstrip, Merrill Field, and Elmindorf but if all airports in ANC are down, then there is Palmer Municipal Airport. There are also many farms north of Anchorage. Anchorage is also a major port so chances are slim that anyone will starve.

Superb! Love all the wing fog. I imagine the crab and fishing industry in general bring in a lot cargo flights as well.
More 747s and MD11s than all the fingers on my hands, and an Alaska retro 737-800, a 737, plus a DC-6!! Awesome video JustPlanes :D
Seriously one of the most increadible underrated videos on youtube planespotting... loved the close up roaring takeoffs of those 747s and MD11s which we rarely see today 20 years later 👌
I did a spotting trip to ANC back in 2005, fantastic place and I would love to head back.
Since china and America do a lot of trade, and since the cargo can be heavy, they generally stopover in anchorage. Because Alaska and Asia are pretty close. Most flights there are cargo 747s

Airplanes are always so amazing, thanks for the cool (and snowy!) video!
AIA has some of the best snow & ice removal techniques in the world also. AIA never closes except for Volcanos !
Dam that Southern Air at 5:15 is HEAVY!! ..and hats off to the guy who braved the elements to shoot this :)
Beautiful video, perfect in every way, and around airport scenery is extraordinary
Beautiful landscape around the airport.
Love it, especially that NW Cargo 742! Just love the sound of those old Pratts at full power as they approach and pass you by!
@japancoolness

Anchorage does serve passengers, but mostly it is a huge cargo airline hub.
Great video! It show the other side of commercial aviation. The air freight world is also fantastic. Keep up!
Outstanding, thank you.

So much cargo and so few people in Alaska . I wonder who needs all that stuff?
Great video!
Love to be in Anchorage, Alaska. Beautiful place to be in. Like Ted Setvens International Airport. Heavy cargo flight's transitions.
good to watch these planes in anchorage.used to transit thru here regularily on passenger flights between uk and japan in 1980s.
As a student Air Traffic Controller, I would love to work at this airport, but it's way too cold in Anchorage!
this was posted on my b-day!!!!!
LOVE IT! I like the snowy scenes and the huge planes. The sounds remind me of the Top Gun movie opening scene - Exciting!
Besides Alaska Airlines, China Airlines, Delta, Continental, US Airways, and Northwest all offer year-round passenger service out of Anchorage International. Air Canada, American, Frontier, and Condor all operate seasonally.
I miss my job there... i wouldnt mind working there again after the AF.
Wow, beautiful video!
Nice video!! i live close to the end of the runway i get a great view of the planes taking off.
love to see those vapor trails on landings and take-offs...
0:18 since when did cathay pacific fly passengers to anchorage
They used to fly the A343s to NA via Anchorage for refueling iirc. Otherwise, it's diversion or charter.
Probably a medical diversion. I've seen pax 787s, 767s, and a Delta 747 that diverted to drop someone off.
Had to be a diversion
Yea For Refuel
No sir that was a DC-6.
@conoramoia Yes and there are separate terminals for domestic and international flights. Look at it with google earth and you will also see the world's largest float plane base

Just wondering howcome most aircraft on video are cargo aircraft. What about passenger aircraft?
@pilotdynan Axis? You mean access?
Southern Air was pretty heavy...
It's called Ted Stevens International Airport, not Anchorage Airport.

Why are there so many cargo airplanes??
There not just cargo planes. There BIG cargo planes.
This is a Cargo airport b/c anchorage people depend on outside foods. Just wonder how they will survive if something happen to the airport.
Hmonggodwetrust Hmong The same way they did survive when there were no airplanes: Boats.
Almost none of the cargo that goes through Anchorage is offloaded in Anchorage, probably less that .5%. We get most food by ship and truck.
@dymeksk8 probly cause he had autoland on....
cool this is awsome
3:23
Just cargo planes eh?
The dates on this video are wrong. Alaska did not fly the 737-800 in 2000.
