Not that it really matters, but the original “GM drum mapping” came from a little known system created by Roland called the GSS or General Synthesizer System. I was lucky enough to be there during its creation and I vividly remember how difficult it was to convince the musical instrument manufacturers of its benefits. So I thank Mr Kakehashi and Mr Yamabata for their forethought.
Thank you for the insight! Very interesting!
Wow, that's amazing. Congratulations to you for a job well done!
Wow. That's a fascinating little fact to get on the comments section. Thanks for that trivia. Kudos to you.
Wow, I actually wondered about it when I heard the word "agreed." I agree with Dom Sigalas that the intent was probably exactly that: so people can play drums like they play the piano. Imagine if the piano keys switched on each keyboard - on one keyboard, the high-pitched notes are on the right side and on some keyboards, on the left side. Some keyboards have extra black keys, some have no black keys. 😄
Nice
Hope I won’t lose my drummer friends after learning this skill 😂
Please don't play before them, they will get jeleous..
If they don't feel proud about it, they're not real mi hermano
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This technique comes pretty quickly for drummers.
Dom, I am sure you have achieved a lot in your life, but one of your greatest achievements is inspiring other musicians to dig deeper within our treasure and fall in love with music all over again. Thank you, brother. We appreciate you. ❤️
This made me so happy to hear Irena, makes it all worthwhile ☺️
Absolutely fantastic. Very inspiring, looking forward to practising this! Thanks so much Dom, love your content!
Thank you Dom! Very clear and so helpful. And thanks for asking for feedback and responding with great content like this.
Oh! That’s awesome! And you’re really enjoying playing drums. Respect.
Stumbled on to this and was gonna check a little out - I am amazed at your skills and your excellent teaching strategies! Enjoyed that you looked like you were having fun through it all. Amazing, thank you.
Love the way you add ghost notes to the groove. It sounds great 👍
This is excellent! I knew the GM mappings, but your hand placement advice is genius!
A great demonstration of how to finger drum to the highest level cheers Dom, thanks for all your Vids.
Great video, Dom. Thanks for your superb high-level skills, clear explanations and enthusiasm!
Wooww, this one just cracked my mind right open. I was hoping you could create a series that goes along the concepts step by step the same way you learned this skill. Your drumming is downright awesome man👌👌👌🙌
Wonderful! You're simply wonderful. Nothing else to say. Thank you!!!
This is great.
I've wondered quite a bit how to even get started with this.
Now I know!
Thank you Dom. I love your videos.
I’m one of the people that requested this, I thought it was going to be maschine or mpc styled finger drumming, but this is a whole new approach that I hadn’t even considered, thanks for sharing, you crushed it!
Three cheers for musicians that are really good, and share their expertise! Thanks for this.
We asked, you delivered! Yet another great video full of excellent tips... Thanks for sharing all of this with us, Dom! :D
Awesome! Couldn't believe it when you started playing those double kicks on the synth keyboard! You say that anyone can do this, but you are massively talented!
Always when I come to Dom channel there is something essential for progress, thanks a lot Dom👍🙂
Brilliant. Talent, pedagogy and very practical 👍🏻👍🏻
Far and away the best, most informative lesson on how to do this I've ever seen. Thank you.
Thank you for helping us with your priceless content, Sir.
Dom, I have played keys and guitar for over 50 years, and programmed drums since the late 70's, but I never saw what fun it was to hand play all those drum notes even though I almost completely memorized GM. Until today. Thank-you so much! What a riot!
Thank you Dom.
Thank you for showing us ways to better create, practice, use the devices, software, & everything else I didn't mention .
Following you inspires me.
Thanks for all your suggestions, advice & sharing your knowledge.
You are an awesome person.
i had asked for this in one of your previous videos, now its here. thank you so much..👌🏼
😊😊😊
This video has opened my eyes to improve more and more.thanks so much Don Sigalas
I was looking for such useful stuff 🎹 like this video for a long time.
🙏🙏Be blessed Dom, thank you for the secrets, I'm so happy😅😅😅
Brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing this technique. Not overstating it to say that this is a life changer. Have programmed some basic stuff from the keyboard but never even thought about upping my game and using the natural tapping rhythms in my fingers. This rhythm guitarist might just turn out to be a half-decent drummer!
Yes !!! Superb! More than I expected! Fingering the drums ... is the way to go.
Great video with some method to the madness of getting hihats and cymbals right and toms on top of that and useful to watch an actual pianist do this! :D
Great tutorial!! That inspired me to practice your technique. A huge upgrade to my playing thanks alot.
Just the exact video I was looking out for... This is so helpful right now...
Wow. Very intuitive. Loved the video as I'm new to this and this makes it easier to understand finger drumming. Thanks soo much
This is easily in my top 10 favorite finger drumming videos this week
Hi Dom, I always watch your videos, especially the mindblowing stuff like this one. You are a big inspiration for all of us. Keep it up man ! Ciao from Italy :)
Wow Dom ma man!!! You Rock just like how you play the guitars as well... Love your stuff and wish you the best in this year ahead.... 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎇🎆
Thanks Dom., looking forward for another interesting video!
😊 😊 🙏
clicked so fast. thanks for sharing and happy new year Dom!
I love finger drumming! Dom you are the best finger drummer I've ever seen! Impressive skills! GJ
Thank you so much Dom ! I never thought I could become a drummer, but now thanks to you the dream comes true ! So useful, and the GM map is an incredible tip !
So if you have a three way pedal you could use the other two to basically mimic an open and half open hi hat?
This is exactly what I want to learn. Thank you for being awesome!
Fantastic Dom. This tutorial will be my intro to playing drums on the keyboard (I am a guitar player). Continue to make more video's. I learn a lot from you.
You smoked those keys/drums! Great fun to watch too!🔥🙌🏾🎹🥁
Totally awesome !.. Been struggling with drum programming ... and .. der ! never thought of learning finger drumming as a "craft" . And where the keyboard skills fall short ... I can fix it up in the DAW .. many thanks Dom
I have known that you could play great keyboard drums for 20 years, yet I have sat on my ass and only became a mediocre keyboard drummer. I know how it is done and now in my old middle age I am going to go ahead an become a bad ass. Practice, practice and copy from live and midi files. I need to follow my own advise.
Thank you Dom. Super video! Not being a keyboard player, this was extremely helpful.
Nice tutorial, like every other one I've watched from you! Thanks a million!
Very informative and definately a good skill to master. Thanks so much!!
Show off😎
Great video sir🔥🔥🔥🔥
💥This is GM drum map is actually a game-changner for me! Thank you! 😃
I've been using portable Yamaha keyboards since the middle 80s and never saw the logical mapping of the drums. A game-changer for me, too.
I was in a rut using ProTools and you convinced me to buy an upgrade for an old copy of Cubase. I remembered how creative I could get with it. It was my first DAW software. When I switched to ProTools to do recording for other artists, it sat unused for almost a decade. Going to have so much fun watching your videos and learning new tricks. It's like being young again. Cheers.
OMG!! Really waited for this one!!!! Thaaaank you!!!
And? Already rockin'? I drum like this since the eightees! He let it look easy but you need the drum feel, without that you *ucked! And it takes at least a few months maybe years depending on your learning speed and skills!
@@Pauluz_The_Web_Gnome yeaa.. already rockin'!!!! Since he's a genius, he made it look easier!! I will study it from here, no matter how long it takes. And that's the joy of learning something new.
If you've been drummin since 80's, that's none of my *ucking business!!
This is how the Z GEN does things!!
Take care GRANDPAAA!!
Cheers!
Brilliant tutorial, thank you! 😎👍🎹
Great video Dom! Really useful. I'm looking forward to practicing this new skill and freeing myself from rubbish basic programming / relying on loops! 👍🏻 🎶
Dude.... Thank you so much for showing me everything about Cubase and everything.... I started 3 montths ago as a noob with it.. was totally overwelmed with the interface and here we are now.... Me having fun working with it.. You are a great inspiring teacher !
Glad I helped even a little Richard 😊😊😊
Great tutorial your drumming rocks!
Great share ! Just the thing I was looking for ! Thanks much !
Quick tip for the drummers transitioning to finger drumming: use the midi transformer plugin to change your sustain pedal to be your kick! When you want to edit you just apply the transformer template to your midi part in the logical editor to convert sustain to midi notes ;)
AWESOME video and super useful, Bro! You Rock!
Thank you so much brooo ❤️❤️❤️
enjoyable video as always Dom.
Thanks so much Dom! Great vid.
utterly brilliant.thanks mate.
Excellent! Thanks for posting.
Thanks Dom! Great video!
Been doing this for years and years... Nice to see someone else doing it, although our playing styles are a little different, I think your left hand proficiency is higher than mine, but I can do some crazy things well beyond the scope of this video with two hands together.
Its a GREAT skill!!
Awesome. Thanks for this!
Thanks Dom! (been using Roland Handsonic for years, but this video makes me want to play GM keyboard drums again :)

Awesome video!
Really motivated me to learn Keyboard drums :)
My reminders set💯💥
An extensive groove agent tutorial would be great! Thanks Dom!
Dom, I love you man, your enthusiasm is so infe3ctious, and its because of you i decided to get cubase in the first place, having been a Nuendo user back in Version 2 and 3 And then meandering since then on Live and then Logic briefly and then Presonus Studio One, and then predominantly on Reaper, before coming full circle and committing to Cubase 12 Pro I’m so happy i did, and your influence was so much of a contributing factor , and now Finger Drumming which is a dreaded territory for me, now seems like it is possible. God Bless You Dom, your a saint man
Man you are amazing! great content !

Been waiting for this video. Since back when you asked who wants a finger drum video. I'm using the Mx 49. I usually do simple grooves and layer things like symbols and fills because I can't play
it like a real drum kit. With your tips and hand positions for hi hat and ride. Things should be easier. Awesome video.
Thank you for this video!
Another hit by you Dom!
