No offense, but sounds like he was a miserable prick to me. I get that people are a product of their environment and time, but that's different from being a prick. I know older people from similar backgrounds that don't act anything like he did. I also know people who've had hard lives and are "rough around the edges," but I still consider them to be decent people overall. But some people are just not good people, no matter what the environment or time. And having examples of a few good deeds doesn't change that. It's ok to have a negative view of some people, even if they are family.
I like that story about you catching your mother’s hands, making it clear she’s not going to do that to you anymore. My Great Grandfather, who just died at 96 in 2020, had a similar encounter with his mother, when she tried to get up and smack him one day he grabbed ahold of her and said “Not anymore, I’m done”, or something along those lines, and shortly joined the army and got away from her. Instead of saying, "The N-Word", it's pretty clear when you say he was using the racial slurs. Using "Jeff" was a good idea (for anyone not named Jeffrey I guess...)
Sounds like he was pretty based tbh
This was a fantastic video. You should definitely do more stuff like this. I listened to this video in the shower and could imagine you animating some of these stories
@1:29 doggy makes an appearance in the YT plaque! 😁
Lmao “maybe that’s what killed him in 93’”
It's weird that he wasn't at one point problematic, but then time went on and he became problematic. I'm sure he would have argued, like my mom, that "it wasn't wrong at the time." Or "they didn't think that way at that time." Gotta keep evolving.
Admittedly, I was thinking Daddy Carl was kinda badass (sans racism)…until the last story…
Different people, different times. I just wish we as a whole can be the change we want to see in the word and I always hope it’s for the better.
Hell of a story 🤣 daddy Carl seems like quite the character
