    Just listened to these in person at the music store in a studio.
    Long story short, this video is very accurate.
    I went in to see how Yamaha monitors sound, but the store guy suggested I listen to them side by side with Adams. As many others here, I was in awe at how much nicer the Adams sounded. Very spacious, warm and close to how you want to hear the music. But vocals sound clearer and more detailed on Yamahas.
    When I choose to buy either of these I hope to swap them out at the store if they don't sound right in my room.

    Everybody is going crazy figuring out wc speakers are best for mixing wherein reality its ones ability to adapt and figure out what a balnced and good mix sounds like in ANY that is the true skill. If you dont know what a good mix is supposed to sound like in even the most expensive speaker then its absolutely pointless. Case in point? The classic Yamaha ns10s.one of the crappiest speakers ever made. Yet engineers figured out what a mix is suposed to sound like on them in relation to live music. Pick a speaker folks..and figure out what a good mix is with those. :) bjt of were taking about listening pleasure...ah thats another story :)

    Not even close! Adam FTW! The Yamaha's are so mid-range tight and the Adam's are warm and rich. One thing to consider is that Warren Huart says he only uses the older Yamaha's to check on how the electric guitars sound which is mostly mid-range, which these Yamaha's showed. I'm looking for a second pair of monitors to go with my Event 20/20.., maybe the less sweet sounding option makes more sense?

  • @akaFrits1
    @akaFrits1 5 років тому +5

    I played the comparison on my T5V's and as you may expect: the 'T5V' sound is different from the 'original' sound though the original sound is in fact played through my T5V's... . Which shows that the comparison with the Yamaha's (or any other speaker) is relative: first and for all you are listening to your own speakers in your own room.

    The Adams clearly sound "better." But "better" isn't necessarily ideal for mixing. It depends on the genre. The Yamahas have a very pronounced midrange. It's almost harsh. For genres of music that are midrange heavy, they may allow you more detail than the Adams. But the Adams may be better for bass heavy music like hip hop or EDM.

    I have both speakers, and the sound being played here is totally different from the actual device.
    It would be a mistake to use this as a reference to determine superiority or inferiority. Let's listen to the actual sound.
    There are people in Japan where I live who love both Yamaha and Adam, both are often used in mixes. It's totally a level of preference.

  • @rushmuzik
    @rushmuzik Рік тому +2

    The mix is lost and won in the mid range. Hs5 gives such an honest representation of the mid range that is hard to ignore. I feel like the Yamaha would produce better mixes but the Adam sounds better. I would mix with the Yamaha and master with the Adam. Better yet. Get the 5 inch Adam and 8 inch Yamaha. Perfect combo

    I listened to these in a a/ b test in a dj store today and there is a big difference.. You gain a lot more clarity with the Yamaha. The adams have much better bass but it bleeds into the mid and recesses vocals. Vocals and treble are really crisp in the Yamaha. With a sub added it would be a great system. My next speaker purchase for sure.

    Adam studio monitors might sound impressive with these raised bass and high frequencies - but Yamaha are closer to the Original and better for mixing, especially in smaller rooms where the basses of those bass-enhanced studio monitors like those of the Adam series flood or drown a small room easily with low frequencies because low frequencies usually remain longer in a closed area than higher frequencies.

    • @Master.Mi.777
      @Master.Mi.777 5 років тому +1

      @@mrnoname3855There's often something like an acoustic tuning for treble and bass on many studio monitors.
      But the problem is that you never really know which frequencies exactly will be changed with the knobs if you want to achieve something like a mostly linear frequency response.
      Does it change the frequencies from 60 to 80 Hz or rather the frequencies from 70 Hz to 200 Hz at the bass level?
      Will these frequencies be lowered or increased rather equally or much more unevenly?
      And then there remains the question how the frequencies react inside the room.
      Unless you are not used to how a linear frequency response may sound like (because much stuff you listen too is a bit more hi-fi than linear in frequency response), it's kinda hard to set up a monitor system that way.
      A good reference might be the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro studio headphones which have one of the most linear frequency responses (at least for studio headphones) I've ever listened to.

      @dref I've heard the hs5's in person as well as other 5 inch monitors and they are very lacking by comparison. Adding more low end through eq would make something sound better on them to an extent, but take that mix on any other set of speakers with just a decent low end response and it'll sound like a mess.

I mix and produce like 10 hours a day and fried my 8in rokits this month doing some low end experiments. I thought Yamaha might be more durable since they make great 4 wheelers and junk (silly I know).... Adams are beautiful IMO.
    However the HS5 are said to sound 'bad' purposefully as a dope sounding mic on ten means dope sounding mix everywhere!
    But to me I think that one would be tempted to keep adding bass if producing house music on these when programming bass and kicks.
    Adams win and also are less fatiguing on the ear then the high frequencies the HS5's seem to pump.
    Saying the above some of my heros do use the HS5's.

    Everyone listening to this probably has different headphones/speakers. You will get a different result depending on what your listening through. Listening to the monitors in person is the only way to get a real a/b comparison.

    Adam audio with better low end... HS5 you can hear every detail of the music. For some rooms i'd recommend a subwoofer for the HS5. I have a pair of them but they work pretty fine since i have a small and not acousticaly treated room.

    I AM ONLY LISTENING ON MY ARCTIS 7'S BECAUSE IT'S JUST THE INTERNET. BUT THE ADAMS'S SOUND HOLLOW AND HARSH HERE AND LACK DEFINITION IN THE MID RANGE. THE ACTUAL MIX CAN BE HEARD MUCH MORE CLEARLY ON THE YAMAHA'S. IT SEEMS THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LEAVING REMARKS ON THIS VIDEO APPEAR TO THINK THAT THIS IS SOME SORT OF CAR STEREO BASS GENERATING CONTEST. PERSONALLY, I PREFER TO HEAR AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF THE TRACKS THAT I AM MIXING. OF COURSE, LISTENING TO THIS AS A LOW BIT RATE STREAMING MP3, WHICH IS, WHAT THIS IS, IS A SELF-DEFEATING PROPOSITION IN ITSELF AND MAKES THE WHOLE NOTION OF TAKING PART IN EITHER END OF THIS DEMONSTRATION, ESSENTIALLY, AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY. AND NATURALLY, THE CHOICE OF MUSICAL EXAMPLES IS PRETTY DREADFUL, TO PUT IT MILDLY. BUT AT LEAST, YOU GOT A LOT OF VIEWS, INCLUDING ME. LOL

    Imho, the Yamaha HS5's sound like a pair of headphones on full high volume and the foam pads removed. These may make a great studio monitor, but for everyday listening might get fatiguing. The Adam Audio T5V sound more hifi to my ears.

  • @philchapman1463
    @philchapman1463 2 роки тому

    So I placed my Adam T5V in a book case that left about 2 inches behind the speaker, the bass was HUGE the midrange was FULL and rich sounding and sat in the midrange pocket really nice, this was a radically different sound than when the speakers were out on a table about 2 feet from the wall. I found a UA-cam video from "AdamAudio Academy" about speaker placement. They recommended 10CM (4 inches from the wall) for proper bass (NO Toe in). They also mentioned if the speaker was to far from a wall that midrange would be effected. With speakers out on the table I put really large books behind each speaker, creating a wall behind them, the books have to be right behind the rear port, not below it. The midrange now seemed less "airy" and fuller and richer in frequency, perhaps the same would work on the Yamaha's

      It's not just the highs, tho! I mean, yeah, the imaging is obviously WAY better, but I'm really struck by how drastically superior the LOWS are in the same size woofer! I think Yamahas would be my first SECOND set of monitors, but even in that setup, I just don't think I could recommend their 5" woofer models to anyone. Not when Adam and Focal (and even JBL) are competing in this price bracket!

    The Adam T5V have an excellent sound, and a higher bass, however the sound is heard compressed and in some frequencies it seems that they are cut, on the other hand the Yamaha are perceived sharper, cleaner and balanced, I think they are the most appropriate option. Hola, los tengo ya en casa. Necesito saber si puedo usar los monitores como equipo PA, con una mesa behringer baratilla para ensayar bajito en casa.
    Por que? porque necesito configurar pedales que suenan en estereo tanto para la acustica como para la voz, delay ping pong, phaser, octavador en un solo canal (OC 5) , loop en un solo canal, etc, de ahi que necesite usar los monitores como equipo PA si se puede,
    Necesito configurar los efectos, concretamente Tc Helicon Voiceplay con cada perfil diferente para cada cancion, en la reverb y delay a tempo en sus respectivos bancos de usuario del pedal, y asi tener todo preparado para luego tocar en directo con el equipo PA del local con mi sonido ya preconfigurado en cuanto a efectos.
    Agradeceria tu ayuda, gracias de antemano
    un saludo,
