I’m a Strat guy but I like both. That Tele is super cool. My pick would be the 60’s Strat actually, but that depends on what the lotomax numbers are this week
I really liked the Strat, that would be the one for me! Both had the glossy necks like the Classic Vibe Squiers, I like that. I was surprised at the Tele's headstock, different than normal.
So tempted to get the 57 Strat, as it is my Birth Year Guitar. I already have an 85 American Standard that i bought new, which is my #1. I have "home relic-ed" it. I would get the blonde Vintage II Strat because it has an ash body, which is becoming more scarce, plus, I like to see a little wood grain. I don't think i've ever played a 7 1/4 radius before, but i don't really dig flat fret boards, so it would probably be fine. Nice video Landon. I have never owned a "Big Head" Fender, and didn't use to like them. Now I crave a big head strat. I used to hate the Tele headstock too, but just got a butterscotch Fender Player Series and a Sire T7 which i wish had a headstock shaped more like a Tele.
‘61 AVRI II Fiesta Red showed up at North Vancouver’s Long and McQuade store. Always wanted a vintage reissue. Couldn’t say no, had to get it, and I love the feel and sound. Neck has the thin feel of a CV 60s Squier strat, but with 7.25” radius. I was told only a couple of the fiesta reds arrived in Canada. Glad to have one of the first arrivals in fiesta red.
Oh maaan that Tele!!! Looks great, sounds fantastic but having LP style individual control over those great sounding pickups is priceless 👌🏼 love it!! Great video again, thanks man, hope you’re well!
I haven't had a chance to play one of these yet but I do own a American original 60s strat . I also own a players series and two american pro2 strats...when I compare the American original to the American pro2 .......I'll take the pro 2 ....there is a reason they evolved and changed to be what they are today ...vintage does not always equal better....they are cool and I would buy one but for gigging and playability ... the pro2 is amazing....
on a real 1957 strat, the second tone knob would work the middle pickup and the selector switch would only be a 3-way. I'm fine with the slightly more modern wiring, especially the 5-way switch.
You sure that tele has a 9.5” radius? I thought they came with 7.25”. Super nice guitars. I’d buy any and all of the Vintage ll line. That’d be swweeeet! That tele sounds really great. Really nice sounds, dude.
I was expecting to like the Tele more because of the humbuckers, but I definitely liked the '57 Strat way better. From this Vintage II series I would probably go for the '61 Strat.
Very hard to say. Love the Fender Stratocaster, but that Tele is sweet. The Tele's case is more appealing to me, very cool looking, but my love of the Stratocaster would win this one I believe.
"I'm doing good" is fine if you're working for Amesty International or UNICEF. The vintage II series is pretty compelling, though the prices are toppy and I don't like the idea of the butt adjust truss rods. Having an excellent tele already, I'd be in for the 57 strat out of these two. Definitely has the superior case, plus if I'm getting a Fender, I'd want the single coils and I don't like black pickguards.
For the Strat you're correct "correct" wiring should be three position switch (5 pos didn't come in until the 70s) and tone on neck and middle only (tone on bridge a 90s addition). I own a Squier JV 62 and when bought the electrics were totally correct 3 pos switch and no tone on bridge.
@@landonbailey tbh I agree I ripped out (stupidly) my original electrics from the JV 62 in the 90s and stuck in an American Standard pick guard with the tbx on the bridge and a three way. Recently on my list of upgrades is to put something else in the JV 62 and I would have to have 5 pos and tone on the bridge even if I go back to more sixties like pickups so I get it. But not vintage spec to be pedantic.
cool video, thanks! I'm leaning Tele but would have to play them both. I've got a Vintera 70s Strat Hardtail that I really like that already gives me a bit of a vintage"y" vibe. I don't have a Tele Deluxe but have always been intrigued by them. Going to have to check 'em out!!
They're both nice, of course, and they should be for the money. What worries me is that both Fender and Gibson release so many variations on their flagship models. The average bloke has no hope of keeping up with the difference between them all. Unless you're a nerd, or Troglodyte
For a long time I didn't care for the look with the big pickguard on the Tele Deluxe, but it is starting to grow on me. I would be very torn between this one and the Kingfish model though.
@@nickfarrow4788 Neither at this point, still have a couple of others on the list to get first, not that I need more lol. But yeah, I am definitely not a fan of the 7.25" radius and much prefer a flatter board. The American Vintage II says it is 9.5" though, and the Kingfish is 12".
Both guitars are sweet, always been a Fender guy and have a 1990 American Standard Strat and a 1997 American Standard Telecaster, love them both, especially the Tele. Recently picked up the American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe in Mercury, thing sounds awesome and dig the neck. First guitar I've had with humbuckers (always have had Strats and Teles). The V-Mod II humbuckers sound good and pretty cool that you can split them to single coil. I'm REALLY curious to how those CuNiFi humbuckers would sound in it and would it be worth the $400 plus to swap out. 🤔
They are both so nice. I think maybe the "57 because just looking at it made me want to play some Buddy Holly songs. Still of I was going to lay down the money for real, I would be torn between the '61 Strat or the '51 Tele.
not exactly my favourite burst/colour on the 57 strat, but with time and natural aging and fading i could learn to love it,...but yeah no offence to fender or squire,...but it looks like a below avg. Affinity burst at the moment.(a very very very rare 👎 from me for the fender gang) cool vid mr landonbailey 👍
I’ve been reading (and hearing) on several channels that these Vintage IIs suffer from QC issues, some even comparing them to Gibson’s infamous reputation. For example, one UA-camr said there have been numerous reports of the wrong wammy bars being shipped for almost all of the Strats. Did you notice any QC issues?
I didn't experience that with either of these guitars. I liked the 75 so much that I bought it afterwards. What channels were reporting the issues? cheers
I hate to harp on negative stuff, especially since I’m sure 99% of these Vintage IIs are fantastic. But since you asked, 60 Cycle Hum had a Live Hangout podcast about a week ago where a couple people were reporting wrong whammy bars, loose solder rattling around, and multiple finish issues (comments start around the 56 minute mark). Ryan at 60 Cycle also had a few issues with his Jazzmaster. Trogly found a few issues, too. Anywayyyyy…. Congrats on your Tele! I’m very happy for you… and jealous!
What is the string spacing on those pickups (neck and bridge) and the actual bridge as well, please? Fender is yet to make a lefty Tele Deluxe so I have to take matters into my hands and have Warmoth make one for me :(
The bridge connected to the tone is not original to the '57, but if you want to darken that bridge pickup and play some metal, it's just an easy mod - solder a jumper between two nodes on the switch and it's good to go.
75 Tele, I’m glad I saw your video because I saw trogly video and it sound really bad but I think he pulled a wire accidentally when looking at pickups
Really liked that TELE! I’m curious to know if when you show the pictures of the pedals you’re using in the video, if that’s the actual settings of your pedals. Thanks
@@landonbailey yes, I think that would be a great way for us watching your videos to have a much better idea of how the tones we are hearing are generated.
I’ve got an original ‘75 Tele Deluxe and was able to do a side by side with the latest iteration. They did a good job with the wide range humbuckers but they still fall short of the original. Yeah, it’s subjective but I found the originals to be better balanced and more rounded. The new vintage series sound great and I’m sure will be a sought after release from Fender.
