  • Many persons when either visiting La Brea in south Trinidad or driving past La Brea, think only of the world-famous Trinidad pitch lake and indeed many think that La Brea consists only of the buildings that are seen from the Southern Main Road. In this video we go on a Road Trip inside La Brea to see some of the historic structures that still exist within the village. In particular, we go inside the village entering at the area known as Point d'Or Junction, going through the area known as New Lands and exiting at 3 Hands Junction. We will visit the former La Brea magistrate court, the former Magistrate's Quarters, the Catholic Church, the former La Brea Wesleyan Church, the La Brea World War Two Watch Tower and other buildings and we conclude with a look at the La Brea Pitch Lake.

    This brought back memories as a young boy in the 1960's. I am from one of the 40 Chinese family and I lived on Southern main in a shop across the street from Brighton AC School. The red Chinese shop was owned by my aunt and uncle the
    Ayoung Chee or Archee. I also saw my dads grave, which was one of the 2 structures. I spend my childhood exploring la Brea and will be back to visit some day. Thanks for the memories.

      I remember the shop you lived in. I went past it every day on my way to school in San Fernando. I am happy that I was able to give you good memories.

      Hey Anthony... fellow La Brearian. I went to Brighton EC school 1958-1962 and remember your shop across the road.

      I went to labrea rc in the 50s. Bring back memories. Nice I knew the 2 brothers who lived midway down the stretch in a Chinese shop. Chungkits I think. We lived nearby the Wesleyan church. Somebody should fix it up it's a solid building with a large yard we had annual Christmas parties there. Sad to see the tower abandoned. Government didn't take care of what was left when Texaco left. A beautiful golf course. Lots of staff houses could have been turned into tourist resorts with the beach nearby and the tower could have telescopes on the roof for sighting port of Spain or even Venezuela. We are a disinterested people.

    I'm an Original La Brea Girl from the Samlalsingh family! I enjoyed it all! You did a great job! BUT can you or someone else do a more elaborate film on La Brea. Maybe Point D'or Nightingale's Steel Pan Orchestra can be heard in the background. Personally I have been planning and very soon will be returning "home" to do a walk about through nooks and crannies whilst reminiscing about my early days! O, I just can't wait to begin......😄🤣🥰Keep up your good work and I will be following you on UA-cam. You have a lovely voice for narrating!

    A well done informative video.Congratulations. I would suggest however that the background music be more local than Jamaican.

      Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately we do not get local music producers who share their music on the internet in a royalty free form. and if I do use local music I immediately get cited for copyright infringement. Given that my sharing of these videos is not a money making venture I cannot afford to pay for the rights to use local music to accompany my videos.

    Thank you so much for this very insightful video with some history on La Brea. This is so important for future generation and for those viewer not familiar with Trinidad.
    I left Trinidad as a child and lived in Point Fortin, before moving to the UK. I have some memory of the area, which is from subsequent visits, albeit never from the interior, only from the main road .
    I looked at your video with interest and felt terribly saddened by the stark neglect I saw everywhere . The poor decaying infrastructure, wasted land devoid of trees (common all over Trinidad's landscape) and our national treasures laid to waste in the decaying beautiful and hystorical old buildings. In all developed and well managed countries, historical buildings with such stature are preserved and showcased, as the country's national pride and treasures. Not so in Trinidad and Tobago! Only a few places in POS have been renovated to its former glory. However, I am not certain the originals features have been kept.
    Trinidad is looking to enhance its revenue with tourism, but it has nothing of concequences to offer compared to many countries/islands around the world . Gone are the days of tourist only seeking sand and sea. Tourist are scouring pristine water, land and forest, teaming with wild life . Authentic and unique traditions, cultures, language and music.
    Regional foods, customs, traditions and festivals.
    The mich mach of modern construction against concrete and barrenness of the landscape are not only a scourge to the environment, but to the senses of people who expect to see a rich island lush , abundant and with good ( not decaying) infrastructure.

    Why are we playing Jamaican music, don't we have our own music in Trinidad? Our music should be reflected in a video about our island.

    • @pointboy12
      @pointboy12  2 роки тому +2

      If I could find royalty free Trinidad music I would use it. I cannot afford to pay for the music so I must use what is royalty free.
