Ingrid, good observation. This horse opens his lips like that, his mouth doesnt open, just his lips. He had this issue when i got him and have been unable to change it. Obviously it came from some anxiety during his training and is now a habit.

The UK has had a reining team at the past 2 (at least) World Equestrian Games, so I believe you do have competitions with those maneuvers in the UK. I'd type British Reining into a search engine, i tried to post their website here but UA-cam wont allow URL's in the comment section.

I LOVED IT!!! Just wish it didn't have the music, so we could hear the horse! Oh well, maybe there's a reason......anyway, loved it! Thanks you so much for that view, as I'm an old grandmother and I doubt I'll be doing that in THIS lifetime!!!!

Thank you, typing in "British Reining" not only worked but also showed that the National Championships are to be held at Bodiam, only 20 miles from me, at the end of September. I intend to go if the draft horse I am breaking to harness doesn't sit on me whilst practicing her unauthorized skid stops. If you enjoy watching 1st class trainers in other disciplines, may I recommend "barryhook2" a driving horse trainer. Hope you enjoy his videos as much as I enjoyed the Reining videos.

And that is how it is done! Awesome ride. Thanks. By the way, I got that little reiner of mine loaded,,, did what you told me, then when he decided he didnt want to do anymore, found out he was bluffing a bit... gets in now! Sorry I didnt call you back, but lost your number! Sure wish I was on the West Coast, and not the East!

We don't have competitions with these manoeuvres in the UK. I assume it's a test of cattle working skills. Is the low head carriage of the horse the norm for this work or just a quirk of this animal? I'd be interested to know why it's useful,if it's deliberate. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, though I drive not ride.

What's with the horses mouth. I'm not criticizing, just wondering. I do appreciate reining, but a few aspects of it seem very unnatural to me.

probably the correction bit is either too harsh on him or doesn't fit properly... maybe a cathedral (spade) bit. I bet Mr Schiller wouldn't use that bit if he were to ride that pattern today.
