"Do not commit the crime for which you now serve the sentence. God said let vengeance be mine" "I don't believe in God" "Doesn't matter. He believes in you."
What I love about TCMC in any iteration it's not just a simple adventure story. It's not just inspired by Dumas' own father, and it is both of those, but it is an allegory for the journey of manhood itself. We all start out simple boys, illiterate untrained, naive to the ways of the world, ripe for a fall. Then darkness, hardships derail our youthful dreams, we suffer in one form or another, we may lose hope for a time, but through hardships we gain experience, we gain skill, we gain mental toughness. We acquire mentors, friends, connections (some less than reputable) we become unrecognized to those who knew us as boys, unrecognizable to ourselves. And yet, if we survive our struggle, we are the better for it all. In short, we become Men.
You put in words what i loved about this movie so much and could never explain, to other or even to myself. Thank you for this, truly. I will take this to heart.
I agree with what you're saying, but what you describe is the basic narrative archetype of the Hero's Journey, and since the journey tends to be a progression of human qualities it can fit human beings from any sex or gender, not just men or manhood.
Saw the movie when it was released (2002); felt like I was walking on air when I left the theater; naturally, I was moved by the film. And while the musical score certainly added to the tone and overall enjoyment of the film, it was for the most part just an added bonus. When I saw that the movie was featured on UA-cam I didn't hesitate to watch it again; not only was it free to watch, there were no commercials - thanks Google. Yet, having watched the film again, it would be hard to say whether the movie would be as good with a different soundtrack. Nevertheless, great movie, awesome cast, great musical score.
My brother in law is coming home after being deported for the last 9 years. His children get to see him again. This song seems appropriate. “God will give me justice”
I have those emotions, as well as sadness for this man. Edmond Dantes lost his boyish innocence forever, and the anguish of betrayal by both his best friend and eventually his fiancé - will last forever.
I fell in love with all the characters and worried what was to become of their fate....Amen...aaaahhhh mmmmmeeeeennnn The movie is intriguing & charming & daring & ruthless & revenge & Touche' & death....A great movie!!! and the soundtrack impacts or emphsizes these feelings....you must feel..you must... "where's your mercy. I am a count not a saint. " bad count, good count?"
I am reading Alexandre Dumas' original version of, "The Count of Monte Cristo," while listening to this music, and I must say, even in the middle of Chapter Five: Betrothal Feast, the book and motion picture are two almost completely different stories. I like the motion picture much better, though, the storyline and plot are much clearer.
Spoilers Ahead The book has many sub-plots that they couldn't add to the movie because it would take a longer time to explain. Here are just a few things I can list off the top of my head. 1. Mercedes and Fernand are cousins. 2.There is one more person involved, who put him in prison, It was his drunk neighbor who didn't want to, and later plays the part in telling Dantes what happened to his father, ship owner and the others. 3. Edmond dantes is taken away during his betrothal feast to Mercedes and is seconds away from being wed 4.there is no jacapo :( but he does have someone else who is very close to him 5.Mr. Morrel is in debt when he gets out, but Dantes helps them and gives them a good chunk of his treasure in disguise. 6. Fernand goes to war becomes a traitor, kills a king , sells the princess into slavery who is 6-8 years old and thats how he made his money. 7. Almost as soon as Fernand comes back Mercedes marries him. Albert is not Dantes' kid 8. Fernand doesn't kill off Mr. Villefort's father, his father goes blind and cane hardly speak. 9. Mr. Morrel has a son, Maximilian, who is in love with Mr. Villefort's daughter Valentine. 10. Mr. Villefort's 2nd wife is trying to kill Valentine because she is her grandfather's favorite and ends up killing a number of other people so her son can have the money. 11. Dantes helps Valentine and Maximilian by giving valentine something that makes everyone thinks she's died. of course no one knows its him that helped. 12. Fernando goes to jail in the end, because Dantes bought the princess,Haydee, when she was 11 or so, now she is 26. she testified against Fernand. 13.And the money that makes him the count of Monte Cristo actually belongs to the king fernand killed. so it all technically belongs to Haydee. 14. Dantes story does end with a happy life, He doesn't get back together with Mercedes but instead marries Haydee.
Foodie Yama Actually the money Edmond finds is the treasure of Spada, the treasure the Abbe Faria reveals to him in prison. ferinand builds his fortune on the money stolen from the Pasha kingdom. Dantes uses the treasure (which is valued at over 100 million francs) to turn himself into the count and work his revenge. in the end fernand kills himself after Albert and mercedes leave him. Villefort goes mad, and Danglars becomes the guest of the bandits in the san Sebastatian catacpmbs lead by Luigi vampa, the same group that capture Albert early in the book. In the end the bandit take away all but 50000 francs from Danglars, and Dantes spares his life, leaving danglars out in the countryside, where he finds out that he has become an old man- his hair has turned white,
Foodie Yama You forgot the most important part about Valentine and Max! It's the contrast between the pleasure that Edmond derives from making them happy while watching Villefort suffer that makes him finally put his demons to rest and realize how his revenge was not what made him happy, but all the people he helped as well along the way. Unfortunately, almost all the film/tv versions miss out on this.
In the name of God...The Devil himself for this aligned to the end...and St Michael the Archangel of vengeance...in the name of our fathers and forefathers, the lines of heroes made it all, in the name of our children kidnapped by manic terrorist beasts, in the name of our creations, our dignity, our pride, our flags, our civilisation. One by One.
@ShadowACS Well, ok. This is true. However, it is my opinion, so please do not take it so seriously. The book is not as straight forward, the movie is direct and has most of the best scenes from the book. Therefore, I think it's better. Don't get your jimmies all rustled.
I think you uploaded the End Titles twice, this is the exact same song. The version of Retribution on my copy of the soundtrack is from the last fight scene.
The soundtrack and the visualswere good but the movie was pure SHIT. Nothing was done according to the book except for maybe, just maybe priest Faria. Anyone who likes this movie either has no respect for poor mesieur Dumas or simply just has not read the book!
Dude, if people like the movie, then let them like the movie! It's people's own opinions, and you have _no_ right to tell them that what they like is shit, and that if they like it, then that they don't like the original novel!! I like this movie, and I also like the original novel;so, GET OVER YOURSELF, you big _meanie!_ 😡.
Dang I just watched this movie and fell in love with it and the soundtrack. I has to read the book for summer reading and after reading the last 5 chapters it left me like thinking after it really was a amazing book and I listened too the music of animal crossing new leaf 7pm and that music fitted perfectly with the last chapters and this has have to be the best book and movie I have ever watched
"Do not commit the crime for which you now serve the sentence. God said let vengeance be mine"
"I don't believe in God"
"Doesn't matter. He believes in you."
💘💘💘💘
It was a fantastic scene
love this quote and music
One of the greatest movies ever made, in my opinion. Such a powerful message it conveys.
Such a sweet verse!
Such an underrated film. Such a fantastic soundtrack.

@@Rellyks You're quite welcome. May the younger ones who follow us have a shorter time in their own Chateau d'If than we did.
James, how beautifully well put. I could not agree more.
It is an initiation text, one of many, still one of the best
I agree with what you're saying, but what you describe is the basic narrative archetype of the Hero's Journey, and since the journey tends to be a progression of human qualities it can fit human beings from any sex or gender, not just men or manhood.
Wish I could watch it 4 the first time again...
DJae Pea, as do I.
i just did. I wasn't expecting such a good movie
I watched this movie probably a 100 times.
50 times drunk 50 times sober.
Thank you Priest, thank you.
My fav film of all time and I read this story in school, The movie did the book justice!
This was the first movie in which I really paid attention to and liked the soundtrack.
Yes true

In my opinion the best movie that was ever made.
"God will give me justice"
We may stumble and fall but god will never leave us
Bam bam bam, we spend the treasure, how is this a bad plan?
funniest scene ;P
" No..they should suffer as i suffered.".
beautiful music from one of the best movies
Amazing movie and Beautiful soundtrack
Luis Bateman I couldn't agree more. :)
"I bought this place, one day thinking I would tear it down. Now the only things I care about...are walking off this island with me.'
Story is really woven into the soundtrack, beautiful
My brother in law is coming home after being deported for the last 9 years. His children get to see him again. This song seems appropriate.
“God will give me justice”
God gave him justice
This music has become a part of my life
Goosebumps its beautiful...The movie itself was Epic
one of the most moving pieces i've ever heard.....thanks for post...loved the movie !!
Edmond is a " Person of Interest "
The movie was great. And so was the book! It's a long read, but well worth it. Truly an amazing story.
MASTERPIECE...
This music bring me tears of joy, love and happiness.
I have those emotions, as well as sadness for this man. Edmond Dantes lost his boyish innocence forever, and the anguish of betrayal by both his best friend and eventually his fiancé - will last forever.

GOD WILL GIVE ME JUSTICE
The soundtrack is beyond wonderful.
I’m 19 and this is my favorite movie ever (and book although they changed it)

Ten years.. This soundtrack amazing
This is a beautiful film. I feel they Hollywood missed the opportunity to make the movie longer actually cater to the book
Despues de la Tormenta Viene La Calma, esta Melodia Lo demuestra...
I read the book, its amazing. But i like the movie too. Maybe its because i wacthed the movie first, then i read teh book. I dont know.
I saw this version and another one a few years ago. Great intelligent movies, Im in love with the sondtrack.
Lovely movie n soundtrack.
I love both the book and the movie. though they are two very different stories.

Foodie Yama that follow the same plot line. They have different things to fill it in
Castle of If ,Abate ,We have need faith in Good !
I Love this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were right priest....All that was used for vengeance, will now be used for good.
This song remembers me King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King.
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!
They just don’t make great orchestral sweeping lyrical scores like this anymore!
es preciosa...sencillamente preciosa
God will give me justice

Good soundtrack love the film too.
@ltjohnson123 hate to ever agree that a movie can be superior to the book but yeah, i'm right there with you!
beautiful
"You were right, Priest. You were right."
GOD WILL GIVE ME A JUSTICE
It's 'God will give me justice'.
Not, a justice.
so glad people love this movie 2. im reading the book and the movie is better.
the book is far more detailed, but the movie is more compacted.
PSNSMANIACALMIND1st You are a simple-minded moron.
Prince of Persia the Disney film, has the same sort of sound that this song has!! I like it!!! I like it!!!!
The king is for you Fernand
It's "Kings to you Fernand."
Kings and pawns.
Emperors and fools.
Interesting how Napoleon was the initial betrayer of Dantes, but the movie mentions this not at all.
Well, technically you're right. But it is also shown fairly well on screen. "Sentimental letter from one soldier to another" Yeaaah, riiiight!
watched this movie online. then went and put it on hold at the library. i want to own it but never seen it at walmart. :(
try on amazon , ive seen it there.
Thanks for the music! It leaves me hungry for more! Is there any way you could upload the rest of the tracks onto youtube?
Beautiful revenge
lol every time i go on the ferry from malta to gozo i see the chateau d'if on the island of comino ....reminds me of this film
ripmax333 that’s so cool!
