Keith, long may you host podcasts. You are so well prepared. May you continue to excel. Humankind benefits from your incisive and informed questions. Please keep up the good work, please.
thank you Keith for hosting an intellect, a diplomat, a foreign minister, public civil service, an educator, author and many more accolades. It is indeed a breath of fresh air from someone who experienced colonization to liberated global leader and keep promoting the 1st Asian Century. In the history of civilization and the chinese has a saying about how feng shui ebbs and flows. Long time ago the center of the world was in India, China then it was Greece, Rome and cross over to Europe, later from London it made its way to New York city and now circled back to Asia. History was, is and always will be the greatest teacher. If we never read history and understand then we will keep repeating the mistakes all over again. Appreciate a thoughtful stimulating chat with an intellectual, humble elderly statesman. terima kaseh
Kishore's experience of the colonial minset is spot on. Growing up in different parts of India, we did not experience the colonial mindset until I settled in Australia. We are in an Aboriginal country but the colonial hegemony is shocking for us that thought it is a country with a vibrant culture. It is instead foremost not open to freedom but a form of control. Hopefully, with an educated world, no one accepts intimidation and has freedom to thiink. Who knows, we may reflect on who benefits with strengthening of old time coloniser countries, basically 5 eyes club
Myanmar is very different from other countries where the military is all about greed and power. I was working in Myanmar from 2017~2020. The Myanmar Junta top leaders had been flying to other South East Asian countries like Bangkok of Thailand and Singapore for holidays! So, the Myanmar Junta knew that Myanmar is far behind of most countries of ASEAN, but they don't care! The Myanmar Junta only cared about money and power!
Sanctioning Russia excludes us from BRICS. Is that a lethal mistake for Spore? Whyvdidn't we do what the other Asean countries do, remain neutral? A tiny country like SG just came between 2 giant powers - won't be trampled? Was it wise of SG?
Yes I was surprised that Singapore joined in the illegal sanctions against Russia. There are times when I think Singaporean leaders are still afraid of offending the US. Or may be they have the colonial mindset and folded under a bit of pressure ? Not sure, but I think it was too hasty and doesn't help with Singapore's image as a neutral country. It would be good if Singapore exercised independence in all its international actions so that it can be a good example for other countries. Please don't follow in Japan and South Korea's footsteps.
@tinatang1 I think it's a mistake for Singapore to sanction Russia. 1 statistics we have to take note is the remaining over 80% of the world’s population have not imposed sanctions on Russia
The dissolution of the Soviet Union has propelled the US to become the unipolar world power able to control every corner of the world. Architects of US foreign policy then decided they can have unlimited access to the vast resources of the former Soviet territories of Eurasia n Ukraine is the most important piece of their Eurasian chessboard
Keith, before your time there were the flower children. Marijuana was illegal, those young people grew up and occupy positions of responsibilities. Then the cautionary saying 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. So Keith drugs are so easily, and Marijuana gaining acceptance, what do you see ahead? Think how opium affected Chinese society...
Could u request our dear kishore to guide and apply these concept or thinking onto the current pap leadership within our local politics eco system moving forward. The key minsters needed urgent transformation of their thinking and approach and be prepared for change mindset.Thank you.🫡🫡

Even in Asian there are local colonialism over it's minority.
