      Imagine Lee Kuan Yew living today. I don't believe any of these democratic neolibs nowadays would allow the 'iron' fist rule by Mr Yew. Hard line and iron fist rule needs to occur to raise up a country out of poverty, all the Asian tigers were ruled by an iron fist

    1. A very inspiring and encouraging book for aspiring world leaders and government officers to reflect in the course of their service to their countries.
    2. Much wisdom and experience have been shared by Prof Mabubhani despite the odds he faced in his relationship with people from all walks of lives. Some ‘teachers and mentors’ are resilient and strict while some are compassionate and understanding, depending on their own experiences in life.

    Dr. Goh Kwee Swee was engaged as the economic adviser to China. The setting up of coastal economic zones were his idea to China. Back then, the Chinese leaders focused on the four modernisation which was not so successful. China picked his idea of free coastal economic zones. That was how China took off. Dr. Goh also advised China on promoting tourism industry started first in Guilin. It was a great success with the building of hotels, infrastructure, airports and all other associated knowhow and services.

    It probably frustrates Mr Chan a lot that HK has no been able to nurture leaders in geopolitics and brilliant statesmen like Singapore. KYL was so successful in Singapore because he loved Singapore and always worked for people's wellbeing. HK leaders could do the same, on one hand work for majority of the HK people and stand up against people who want HK 'dead' at the same time helps China to continue to be strong and thrive. LKY is of Cantonese origin so are most people in HK. If LKY could do it, people like Mr Chan could certainly do it too.

    • @stewart4539
      @stewart4539 2 місяці тому +6

      Hakkas are NOT Cantonese. Their language has affinities with both Cantonese, the language of the people of Guangdong province, and Mandarin, the language of much of northern and central China; many of the Hakka tongue’s initial sounds are a bridge between the two dialects.
      The name/word Hakka may have been derived from a Cantonese pronunciation of the Mandarin word kejia (“guest people”), which the northerners were called to distinguish them from the bendi, or natives. Alternately, it may have been a name the Hakka gave themselves when they migrated south. Having settled in South China in their own communities, the Hakka never became fully assimilated into the native population. The Hakkas were against the practices of feet binding.
      The Hakka were North Chinese, but they moved to South China (especially in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, and Guangxi provinces) during the fall of the Nan (Southern) Song Dynasty in the 1270.

    Ronnie should avoid publicly downplaying the abilities of Hong Kong’s diplomats before seeking Kishore’s perspective on areas where Hong Kong’s diplomatic team can make improvements. Regardless of his role or influence within Hong Kong's diplomatic organization, he should first acknowledge the achievements of the current diplomatic team, then seek Kishore's advice on addressing any weaknesses. Talent exists everywhere, not only in Hong Kong; it’s often cultivated by the opportunities and environment surrounding it. The United States, for example, has many great talents because it provides the resources and environment to foster them, with many talents being immigrants who moved there to pursue growth.

    Singaporeans are able to communicate well in English. So they do better in the western world than hongkongers who don't seem to have that ability to express themselves well in the English language. If they are really good leaders but can only communicate in Cantonese, most likely they will do very well in hk. Since hk is probably the only place where Cantonese is used officially, their leadership will only be useful in hk.

    The Hong Kong protests that began in 2019 actually only showed that Hong Kong's capitalist system has not improved or enhanced the lives of Hong Kong citizens. Of course there have been the complaints. How can a society where wealth and resources are monopolized by the 1% of the rich benefit the people? The West now is the same. Therefore, Hong Kong people are just like spoiled babies by the Chinese leaders of the mainland. Hong Kong people were wrongly targeted to mainland. What they should oppose is Hong Kong's capitalist system. The socialist mainland with one country and one system has made everyone's housing bigger and bigger, wages higher and higher, and life better and better... Capitalist Hong Kong has made Hong Kong people's living environment worse and worse, and they are stretched to the limit. For a long time, more than two million (nearly 50%) of Taiwan's elites have physically "climbed over the wall" and ran to the mainland to work and live happily. They have cast their best votes with their feet. How could they condescend to leave their happy homeland of "Asian democracy model" - Taiwan, just for such a small amount of money, and rush to the "ruthless and bloody" Communist "dictatorship" ruled area! ? The increasing development and progress of mainland society and people have completely destroyed the superiority and arrogance that Hong Kong and Taiwanese people used to have over mainlanders. Faced with the continuous prosperity of the mainland, those stubborn and brain colonized Hong Kong and Taiwanese people can only sigh in despair.
