I just find it wholesome as hell that David was visually mad whenever he started to react to this song on his own and for one moment was getting ready to give out an epic rant and now he is teaching his significant other about this, has given them 9.5+ scores, cried, and laughed with some videos, it is kinda awesome to see, truly. "It's gonna get even better, just wait" - That's cool.
What I really appreciate about Mr. Heretic, in particular, is his ability to take (especially in this case) a negative view, yet be able to take a step back, & still consider the song//group's merits if any. Now that is a person who has an open mind!

When she calls them ‘refreshing’, my immediate thought was ‘BabyMetal is metal that is carbonated’.
I'm glad you spoke of the lack of sexualization of the girls, which I think added to their success. As a grown western man and I was happy to see such young ,talented ladies succeeding without using the "sex sells" mantra that the West has become so accustomed. The positivity of the band and fanbase in general for me also adds to the overall appeal. Oh and the metal speaks for itself.🤘🦊🤘

"Happily confused" That was my first impression of Baby Metal, I do not know how many years ago.
I love them to death now. I did not go see them the tour that just passed in PHX. Citi early access failed me and by the time I could get tickets they were 3x for crap seats.
One day I hope to see them in Japan.

I'm an older gentleman and get only a protective feeling for these young ladies. Like a daughter or granddaughter that you can only feel a deep pride for while watching them succeed. I think I can speak for all of us men in this feeling.
Thanks for this reaction. I think "Gimme Chocolate" is a dangerous first reaction. It initially turned me off and I missed out on a few years of joy. Glad Mrs. H enjoyed it. Hope to see more of her on the Babymetal scene.

Gimme Chokko is always a good shock intro. Then the more you hear and watch, the more you realize there's more to it than shock factor - but legitimate high level musicianship, singing, dancing, and stage production. Babymetal is just so amazing. Would love to hear more of Mrs Heretic!
And the fact that those three young girls could pull off perfect choreography with all the lights, crowds, loud loud heavy metal music playing. Absolute professionals. The production in all aspects of Baby Metal is incredible! Everything and like mentioned elsewhere- all that without any sexualization - that would have immediately made me skip them. Brilliant

8:52 Honestly, the -Metal after their names thing is just a play on the standard Japanese honorifics of putting things like -san (Mr.), -chan (Ms.), and -kun after someone's name. There is a TON of wordplay and use of puns with this band.
This may be one of my favorite reactions ever, to be honest. It's basically how 99% of the fanbase originally reacted to seeing this for the first time.
Okay I'll call my Japanese boss Shiori-chan I'll see how that goes xD.
But no it gets the general idea across, it's a good analogy, especially for -san. But for anyone reading this they're used more for status and not for gender. -san for most people you know, -chan(female)/-kun(male) mainly for brothers/sisters/friends. There are others but look it up xD
Their song Megitsune will rock you to your core.
Congrats on getting to 30K! At first, when I saw it was going to be a GC reaction, I was thinking why this one!? Then, when it started, i was thinking this was gonna go as bad as i expected but I was so wrong to be worried. That was an awesome reaction. Not just because she ended up liking it but because she seemed initially horrified by it but stuck with it instead of just slamming the door on it. Being able to process something instead of jumping to conclusions is a lost art that days. She also has a great way with words of course.

What a great reaction. I haven't had so much fun with one in a long time. Here you really notice that two have searched and found each other.
Regarding the reaction:
At first I thought "Oh god, Gimme Choco and its Legend 1997"....But Mrs. Heretic really has an open approach. The shift from "WTF" to "that's different" to "I like it" is what many Babymetal fans have experienced as well. Now of course I hope we see more of her on Babymetal songs. Especially to songs where they show a little more of their singing skills.
With angel's face, devil's whisper "David, will she see the end of the concert?"
I'm sure we'll get there eventually.
For fans, chocolate is a metaphor for Babymetal. If you become a fan of them, you will understand this meaning.
Now u know why we like watching a person react to Baby Metal 🤣. I tried with my 15 year old brother ... (I'm way older than him I knew Babymetal way back... ) He hates metal he always makes yuc faces he's a romantic lol.. but this time he reacted to this song and his expression was blank no expression at all but he wasn't even blinking but he kept staring... I got worried he talks alot and he was quiet I thought I broke him and his mom was gonna kill me 😱.... I was like are u ok he was mute. For a long time but we didn't event talk about it. He was speechless like 6 days later he sends me a Whatsapp and ask me for the name of the band. 🤔 I think he is a secret baby metal fan 🤣

Very fun and entertaining reaction - going to give it two thumbs up too.
That is my understanding of the meaning of the song as well, only maybe more specifically meant somewhat more as a protest against the body shaming that leads many teenage girls and young women to develop eating disorders. And David got the ages in the video right - the concert was held the day after Su's 16th birthday, I think the title of the video literally translates as something along the lines of "Sweet Sixteen" Moa and Yui are a year and a half younger than Su so they would have been 14 here (Interestingly, Yui is exactly 18 months to the day younger than Su and exactly 2 weeks to the day older than Moa)
Also agree, it is very much to the credit of their management that for the most part when the girls were underage management successfully resisted the urge to sexualize them (there were a small number of isolated instances where they were less successful at this but for the most part they did a very good job of it). Even now when they are adults in their early 20s, although the modern costumes and some of the choreography of their newer songs play up their adult beauty a little bit, its still a very, very minor part of the act and the older songs all retain their original choreography.
Many believe by the end of the song they are singing that they took the chocolate. You can also see it in the choreography. Which shows they don't over-think it to much and won't develop into an eating disorder or something. Only indulging a bit after doing the homework

Lovely to see Mrs Heretic again David and I'm happy to see that you chose my second favourite band (after Nightwish) to mark the 30,000 subs. I've been a metal head for many years and have seen most major bands in 40 years of attending gigs - I was looking for something different and then my Brother sent me Gimme Chocolate (although it's far from their best song) I was 'delightfully confused' too and I thought they were thoroughly refreshing. Since then (about 4 years ago) I've seen them twice here in London and they were such wonderful concerts with an electric atmosphere. I would like to point out to the lovely Mrs Heretic that this concert was about 9 years ago and since then they have blossomed into their own - I don't wish to embarrass David, but he's got quite emotional during at least one of their songs 'Road of Resistance' maybe or 'The One' - not sure but please do check them out! I've got a feeling that Mrs Heretic will adore 'Papaya' - if I'm having a crappy day - I listen to that and it changes my mood instantly! People talk about Rabbit Holes on UA-cam a lot, but Babymetal is a 'Foxhole' which you'll find delightfully confusing but super happy to fall in to. Loved the reaction - look after yourselves 😃 🙂

Feeling you David ! Keep them coming. This was very entertaining to watch. I especially loved how this duo-reaction puts a more light-hearted side to your usual script. Don't get me wrong, I love the way you structure your reactions and it's what makes your identity but the way you present this in into a light self-mockery is brilliant and refreshing.

Very impressed with the correctness of most of your contributions to give her some knowledge about the band. I would just point out that BABYMETAL's name is also a reference to how "heavy" and "baby" in Japanese both write and sound almost similar. It is a play on words with the term Heavy Metal. On top of that, the name is also a reference to the birth of a new kind of metal (the joining of two seemingly opposite styles of music).

The girls are fiercely protected by the producers - especially Koba-metal - the creator of the band. They take half a year off and disappear back into their lives in Japan and everyone respects their privacy. David is correct about the lyrics.

Fantastic review from Mrs Heretic!! The initial reaction to this song is always "WTF am I watching" ?? Eventually, Babymetal's intrinsic talent and stage presence will surface. I also loved Mrs Heretic's vocabulary in expressing her emotions (oxymoron, delightfully confused, contradictions, does not compute, fresh etc.). I would LOVE to see her doing more Babymetal reactions.
Congrats to 30 K! Mrs Heretic was on point that it is refreshing. Since I discovered the Japanese hardrock, metal, punk scene the word refreshing is the big key. Still finding new amazing bands. Last discovery is the band Liv Moon. One of the guitarist from Babymetal is in that band so yeah really high level in the music and the singer Akane is half Japane, half Swedish. Early Nightwish ( with Tarja) vibes in this band. Hope you Mrs is going through all Babymetal song now.... Welcome to the One!

The "baby" in BABYMETAL has never (officially at least) been a reference to the age of the girls. It is referring to the birth of a new genre of metal that they introduced to the world (kawaii metal). It is also a bit of a play on words because the Japanese characters for "heavy metal" and "baby metal" are almost identical.
