- Scripture tells us that God is love. For this reason, many Christians boldly proclaim that their God is a God of love. Is it possible that the God of love some people are talking about is actually an idol? If so, then how should we understand 1 John 4:8? In this lesson, Dr. Sproul teaches us about the biblical nature of the God of love and what it means for how we ought to love one another.

Love of God is His continuous mercy and forgiveness protection and sustenance. The Almighty does love us
Tasting the love of God by means of His grace and mercy displayed in Christ, and now in relationship with Him, I'm daily reminded how little I know of real love. Though His Spirit allows times of experiencing the sweetness of God's love, (probably more so through my weaknesses and susequent chastenings, than during times of my faithful obedience), it's merely a thimbleful out of the vastest of oceans (God's love). Just a drop of His love into the heart of a man or woman causes us to feel as if our hearts are going to burst with awe and joy.

There are many definitions of love. None is like GOD. No one knows GOD nor HIS ways. Spend time with the FATHER, HE is your FATHER.

I believe God is love because it's the one attribute that He could display without creation. If He hand never created anything love would be because the Father loves the Son & the Son loves the Father.

Aside from the first sin -- pride -- idolatry is the chief sin of man.
Jesus is the physical manisfestation of Love. He is Love (God) in the physical human form. Words are limited & can't fully describe this phenomenon. However, you already know this by allowing your heart to feel it.
I've written a great deal on how love and truth are united as one, and flow from the same source-they are never apart. Listening in on this talk, I'm compelled to include the whole of God's being and essence of holiness, all of His attributes into the picture of love that I've been attempting to paint....and emulate.

How does this love fit with being out in the world.? Haven’t we all been driving or been in a overly crowded store and said to ourselves what a bunch of idiots or what a bunch of morons? On top of that not being very loving you have the part of walking in the Spirit where if you’re a Christian you’re long suffering. And then you have Paul saying the things I shouldn’t do I do and the things I should do I don’t. If you think these great expositors are not guilty of the same things I believe you’re mistaken.
It’s all very complicated and after 80 years I think it comes down to try your best everyday and trust God.

God is Holy Love then. Got it. So does that not mean that Holy Love is God?

Love is Love. If you have to explain, it’s not Love.
Man, that’s a lot of excuses and conditions for God’s love. That’s why nobody believes.
God is Love.
That’s it. Nothing more needs to be said.
Whilst I understand the message R.C is trying to convey that we shouldn't only say God is love therefore He can not hurt, correct, be angry etc. I must say God is love. Not the human love we know but he is Holy pure love which corrects and hates sin.
If we say "Jesus is soo close to the truth that we say He is truth" then we are saying there is a higher standard of complete truth than Jesus. Which is absolutely incorrect! Jesus IS THE TRUTH.

Good teacher but love only works his way - not Gods way? That is false teaching of God. God is Love - that "is" is not a verb - its a our creator and is what lives inside of each of us through love itself (god). For someone to say your love is the wrong type of love should be a warning flag. This is one of the most direct teaching of the Bible and should not be distorted in any way.
God's way is communicated to us in His word. He described that and contrasted it with the distorted views of love
If God is "love" as the Bible claims, then he is not a being to be worshipped, but rather a chemical that produces love, which is the chemical called Oxytocin, therefore Oxytocin is our God. Not saying we should worship it though, because it's not alive, it's just a chemical created over time by evolution. So if people ask you if there is a God, say "Yes, but he is not a being that created the Universe as there is no proof of that, God is just the chemical Oxytocin, that produces love, and therefore is not needed to be worshipped"
You rationalize on the physical level and completely miss the truth. God is transcend, He has created human and He relates with them on thier created medium. But God is beyond all creation, He is not of creation.
Oxytocin is a hormone that plays a crucial role in childbirth, mainly in contractions of the uterus in order to expel the baby. And according to the Society Of Endocrinology, it has been suggested that oxytocin plays a role in affectionate behavior, such as cuddling, bonding, and procuring the trust of one's partner. So, yes it can play a major role in regards to the erotic love we experience. However, for you to describe oxytocin as God is erroneous and blasphemous because Sproul clearly stated that God's Holy love is not of this world, therefore, that would be worshipping what God created. Also, that is the romanticized version of love, which is secular and has nothing to do with God's love.
@carer forever and @matias That’s exactly what he’s explaining... the definition of the word “is” ....
God “is” love is -not- communicating God = Love, because if so, then the inverse would be true, Love = God, which is what your [oxytocin] comment implies.
However “is” is used as a hyperbolic sort of language that communicates the idea that love is so intrinsic to the character of God that one could say, “God is love.”
The context determines meaning.
You are a creation of God the Father of Christ Jesus or you are created from nothing. Nobody fully understands what GOD is.
The fools said in his heart "there is no GOD"
