Thanks for this! It was fun being with the Warhol crowd when I moved to NY in the late '70s. I was thrilled to find so many of them still around. I was pretty starstruck, and amused to find they were pretty much normal humans, with a few striking exceptions. Uprated.
I can remember reading Bibbe, was hungry one afternoon her father wasn't home, and the only thing their was a shop bought tin of campbell soup that Al Hansen manged to get Andy to sign (we all know what he was like, he didn't want anyone except himself to gain from his name) well she opened it and had some tasty soup. LOL wonder long it took before her father forgave her. Though I bet they were both a lil sick when they figured out what a Warhol signature went for.
Nice! As I was told by an art dealer who knew Warhol, he and/or his Factory associates used to go to certain prep schools in NJ to hunt for young rich kids to bring into their scene. Anybody know if this is true? Did they find Bibbe that way?
The whole scene was BS..."The Factory" with it's aluminum foil walls and all the shit that went on there.....one word: DRUGS! The ONLY reason Edie captivated was 1) Died young 2) Attractive; thus men wanted her. This is the recipe for fame in our culture. Warhol was a complete user and loser with zero artistic talent. The only "talent" he had was self promotion and getting rich people to buy into his BS "art". He had them thinking they would buy into "cool" by owning his crap!
