    My greatest Xmas memory was 1974 Christmas morning and getting this toy. Almost brings a tear to my eye. Best toy ever for a boy. 👍✝️💜🎣🇵🇷🇺🇸

      Very well said. Given that I got my first one in 1981 or 1982, it shows how amazing this toy was given that it had already been on the market for seven or eight years at that point. Nowadays, toys that have been out for six months are considered to be old trash.

      I didn't enjoy it much, I liked the barnstormer biplane toy better.
      Although favorite was my electric car set.

      I was 6 years old also when I got this for Xmas. Remember playing it everyday...Almost forgot all about this toy till I saw they reproduced it. On order for nostalgia value. Maybe display in my study next to my other retro toys.

    Another great video taking me down memory lane. As a kid I too had a white motorcycle and red energizer. I remember also it was difficult to get Evels hands to hold onto the handlebars. Thanks for getting one and showing it I may get one as well I didn’t know they still made them. Great find and info!

      This was one of my all time favorite toys and to get one in 2020 was brilliant. Obviously, I would have liked an original Ideal version, but they're just too expensive. This repro is more than adequate for my needs.

    Yeah man . Definitely brings back some memories. We may be about the same age but I definitely had mine in the mid 70's. I remember the body being wire but the legs were stiff. I tried and tried to get him to bend his legs to sit down but they'd always return to being straight.
    I drove my parents crazy trying to get them to bend his legs for me.
    Anyhow I ordered two of these so my Brother and I can play together if I can talk him into it. Ha Ha
    I certainly won't have holes worn in the knees of my pants this time around because my back just won't allow me to play that long. 👍
    Enjoy man !

      I hope you and your brother had a great time. My brother and I both got Evel Knievel's Stunt Cycle for Christmas in 1976. Evel took so many trips down our very steep driveway. We used to pretend it was Snake River Canyon. We set up ramps with as nothing we could think of. We even jumped our sister's Easy Bake Oven. She was pissed, since we didn't get her permission.
      On the final jump, Evel jumped down a flight of carpeted stairs. He made so many successful jumps that day, but lost his front axle later that night when he crashed into the dryer, sitting in our basement. It was great to be six years old when all I wanted to do was be a Hollywood stuntman.

    Got mine today!!! My favorite toy as a kid. Was definitely in the mid 70s when I had mine. No button to launch just had to reverse the spin to release. They actually did a pretty great job duplicating the toy.

      No white button ever on the Energizer, I'm a 70s kid when this originally came out, white stuntcycle with chrome front forks and chrome exhaust on each side of the stunt cycle, had an sticker sheet or decal sheet what ever you want to call it, and No sticker on the Energizer either, the figure came with a swagger stick and helmet his body was rubber, inside a one piece jumpsuit with one button to close the jumpsuit just behind his neck, the box was taller and fatter, and the top and bottom flaps were glued, it was hard to get open for children. The motorcycle that comes with this set is like the Silver High Jumper set of the 1970s. It's ok but I wouldn't want, cause it's not a precise reproduction.

    Um...not from the 80’s. Got mine for my 7th Birthday when I was in 2nd grade in 1976. Evel Knievel was a 70’s thing, NOT an 80’s thing

    • @AllThings80s
      @AllThings80s  3 роки тому

      Um....in the UK (where I grew up) it was still being sold in 1984, so it was very much an 80s thing!!!

    It's the same as one of the Evel Knievel toys that was released in the 1970s known as the Trail Bike that looked exactly like the California creations version. The company has since released a white version of that same toy and a black version of the original Evel Knievel stuntcycle. You're also thinking of the UK version which was a solid Evel Knievel figure and completely different style motorcycle released very late in his toy run. The CC version is based on the original ideal toy releases not the UK versions. Also they weren't selling Evel Knievel toys in the UK in the 1980s they were selling a version called Team America and in many cases in the beginning they used the same Evel Knievel box art with Evel's named covered over on the box and same outfit design After Ideal dropped Evel from their toy line license after the baseball bat incident in the late seventies..

    I had the original version around 1975. This toy was never sold in the 1980s. My motorcycle was also white and I had the the yellow launching ramp. Wish they would make the yellow ramp. It was released in 73 and was no longer on toy store shelves by the time 1980 rolled around (at least not in the USA). It was a rubber body with wire inside just like the one you have there. He was basically a bendy toy. Unfortunately.

    This is a copy of the trail bike from the EK road adventure trial bike set, this copy having chrome exhausts where the
    Original had grey painted ones. There are 5 different versions of the white bike.

    Just got mine today. Exact same one from California Creations.
    Had to force his left hand on handle bar but carefully.
    Bike isn’t same as original.... original was with white with black exhaust pipes....faster than this one seems to be.
    I’ve only tested with one run.
    I also had a tough time figuring out how to keep the bike on the launcher while cranking it. Seems to want to slide out.

    • @AllThings80s
      @AllThings80s  4 роки тому +1

      Whilst this repro from California Creations is far from perfect, it's pretty decent for the price. I agree that the original from the 70s/80s was much faster.

    I enjoyed the review.
    I was wanting to see if you held the figures side by side if the outfit on the nicer one would fit on the body of the newer figure ? Just a thought. I don't know why they never put the stars down his legs too. Plus the cape. It would be nice to see that.
    Thanks man.

      Actually, I think the costume on the newer figure would be way too big for the figure that comes with the bike. It definitely would have been nice if the included figure had a more detailed costume.

    definitely a reissue. Ideal Toys stopped selling Evel Knievel toys in late 1977 or 1978 after he was convicted and jailed on assault charges. (He went after the author of a book about him with a bat, while having a friend hold the guy)... Great daredevil. Crappy human being.
