The melted and brittle multifunction switch harness plug... it's a pretty common issue of the mid-2000s Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge vehicles... There is lots of speculation on why this happens, but many agree its because they decided to run way too many amps into a single switch. The switch connector gets very hot, and melts on the Batt+ side (as mine did) and the overall connector becomes very fragile. Replacement is the best solution.
I bought this amzn.to/2E4VjBO but didn't use any of the wires. See this video to learn how to remove the existing wires: • Multifunction Connecto...
If you need just a connector, maybe you can find it by itself... but I couldn't.
Here's the pinout reference I used:

Headlights on my '04 stopped working. Saw this video and helped prepare for a melted connector and bad switch (melted platic prevented retesting the switch). Replaced both and just moved one wire over at a time so didnt need a diagram. Had to splice 3 burnt wires though so for me, needed the kit. All back to working order now. This great video helped! Thank you.

Fog lights were not working on my 2005 TJ. Checked my fuses/relays, all good. Changed my multifunction switch in the process saw the wiring harness was melted. Found this video, purchased new harness. Moved/cleaned wires from old one to new one. Plugged in and it worked! Thanks for the video!

Those things can be maddening❗. Your patience and attention to detail are exactly what it takes to fix it right, and have no more problems 🏆😊. Thanks for sharing.

Ordered the replacement switch. Mine is crumbled pretty badly. I hope this is the issue because I've replaced EVERYTHING else. No blinkers no hazards but had brake lights. Fiddled with it and now it pops the ignition fuse every time I turn on hazards. And yet still no sign of turn signals or flashers. Checked all the bulbs outer signal wiring and rear twilight grounds.. this is absolutely maddening. I hope fixing the connector helps solve the mystery

Replaced my multi function switch because my fog lights were staying on .
Of course the connector then proceeds to disintegrate .
And , for added fun and games , the ignition actuator pin decides to join the party at the same time .
All of this in the middle of a bunch of upgrades along with rebuilding my old winch .
The old girl is really starting to get cranky lol .
Be nice if someone just carried the bare connector , so you dont have to depin a new harness , but , I believe the pins in mine are pretty fried as well .
Gonna see when the part arrives .
Id ratther not have to do all that soldering if possible .

did the same as you replaced the switch, wiring diagram was wrong for the color code. Looked up un line and most things work. except fog lights and dash dimmer. should be good enough for a sticker / thanks

Not an easy job. Reminds me of when I started out as a technician. I've rebuilt many cable's and PC broads. Must have been fun back then because I ended up becoming an electrical engineer.
    Keep up the good work.

What causes the overheating? Will the replacement part eventually suffer the same failure?

Cheap plastic of 2003 that couldn't handle heat. Newer design is better and plastic is less prone to melting/cracking from sudden heat cold www.quadratec.com/sites/default/files/installation_instructions/5183442AA-Instructions.pdf

04 wrangle some smoke came out of the steering column and found that the brake lights failed but left and right signal worked witch is the same circuit with turn signal interrupting one half with the flashing relay being switched in with the turn signal switch / fuse is still good 20A / replaced brake switch that has 6 pin connector ) no change ? Short should of popped the fuse / now going into steering column bummer
