Oh yeah! This one is awesome! I can’t wait to do it. Thanks for explaining in another reply that a heat gun won’t work the same way.
Thanks for sharing! If you don’t have a steady hand (like me!), I recommend using a fire resistant tape to protect your seats, carpet, etc. Also, when finished you could wipe down the plastic with a UV protectant spray / wax to keep from sun damage and balance the shine.
I like it! Trinova plastic trim restorer from Amazon is what I have been using lately. Works pretty darn good to eliminate a lot of what is left behind like you suggested with the UV protectant.
Okay I tried this and it worked really well.
But I did a small spot on the door panel and left the heat just a second to long ans lost the texture in that spot. Do you have any info or a video I could watch about fixing the texture.
Mad Mike at sweet project cars got you covered

I use a silicone leather "graining pad"
Sky is crazy to use a blow torch. That’s a good way to catch your car on fire or burn your carpet
It has happened........:)
Does that work on the exterior plastic moldings ?
Rather then telling people not to do it if they are not comfortable....I would suggest you recommend beginners or other fearful people to use a heat gun or a high power blow dryer lol
True lol. But a Heat gun can cause just as much of an issue because it heats the panel all the way through by the time the surface is hot enough to melt the scratches. A dryer just won't do it I don't think.
@@problemsolver8447 I have seen people recommend hair dryers on PDR videos. But I have never tried any of this. I just watch the videos lol. I like to accumulate useful and potentially useful information.
@@trashyoutubetriestocensorm8951 you are 2 steps ahead of most people!
I tried this on my new car, no impact on scratched however wherever flame went, that part started looking oily 😢
jjw00dw_ not incorrect usage. People using this to restore their faded products
Yes, best used with caution!
Would a heat gun get hot enough to accomplish the same thing?
Yes
Can you use the same method for black exteriors mirrors?
I think so but I wouldn't give it extended heat. Just real quick. There is also a product for painting trim called back to black I think from urethane supply company. Goes on like shoe polish.
Also, a lot of times trim just looks badd because it has dried buffing compound or wax on it. Clean it 1st with a real good cleaner and a plastic bristle brush.
Uh, I still see the scratch in glove compartment
Yes, in this case it's just to improve the overall look about 80% by eliminating the small scuffs and scratches. Sometimes I am hired to repair single scratches. In that case I take my time and use several different repair techniques depending on the situation.
Anyone know if the plastic permanently stays shiny?
100% yes it will’
Most car plastics are textured so will be very noticeable’
If u were to try heat use a heat gun and u only hold it about 3 secs and never stop moving also stay a good 12-18” back or u will melt it’
IT WILL NOT WORK FOR DEEP SCRATCHES!
Fyi’ they have to be nearly unbearable to begin with’
Ask me how I know this? I was the Guinea pig’
Melted my door panel and I was very careful!
Another time even more careful tried to do it on door sill scuff plates’
Moral of the story!
DON’T DO IT!
If u think the scratch looks bad now I assure u it will be much worse and noticeable after u melt it and it’s smooth while the rest is textured
LoL’
I’m trying to save u my nightmare!
Find a salvage yard /pick n pull or eBay or buy new’ that’s you’re best bet’
100% giving my honest opinion and prolly 9/10 people would say the same after they melted their plastics’
Also say u take plastic panel off and do it very very easy for the heat gun or torch in this video to de form your plastics and they will be all out of shape! Trust me just don’t even do it 😆
@@joshymcdaniel9233 okay thank you!! I have a tundra and the 1794 door panels cost an arm and a leg! I’m just going to keep them as they are!
IT does leave the plastic shiny.
Will the shiny ever go away or that’s the way it will stay?
If you pass over quickly, it will only have slight residual shine. But yes it will leave it with a shine. It is possible to dull it down with alcohol. But I never have a problem with the shine.
I’m doing the bumper of a 2020 Jeep Cherokee, hope it comes out the good, it was scuffed from luggage going in the back.
@@mosestorres Start with small amounts of heat. Press the raised scratches down with something clean, OR, you can sand the scratches out with 400 grit until the surface is smoothed but scuffed, then use the torch to get rid of the sandpaper scuffs.
Problem Solver it has a slight texture I hope the heat and slight press does the trick
@@mosestorres A rubber glove sometimes has a little bit of texture to it. That may be helpful. Good luck!
