just bought one thanks to this review. probably one of the best reviews of optics or magnifiers i've seen. the way youve got the camera set up so we can actually see what an optic will look like. subscribed.
AWESOME review! I own this magnifier and was surprised at how good it was given the price. That said, the reason you have a wider field of view when you flipped the magnifier up behind the red dot is because the magnifier is showing you what it sees from it's objective lens that's 2-3" in front of where the back of the magnifier is. If you were to move your face 2-3" closer to the red dot (without the magnifier of course) your field of view through the red dot would be just as wide. Keep up the great work!
I had both the HM3X & the Vortex Micro 3X, ended up keeping the HM3X for a lot of the reasons you covered in this video. The only thing I liked about the Vortex Micro more was the mount. It was a lot stronger mechanism, also the mount took up less real estate. I enjoy the HM3X so much, I'll probably be giving the Holosun HM3XT a try after it releases. By the way, if you're looking for a Holosun HE530GC-RD, I'm your guy. I'd be glad to loan you mine because there just isn't that much info out there on the HE530 series. I had to take a leap of faith before I ordering mine. A video review of your quality would probably help a lot of people that were in my shoes.
Glad to see im not the only one that noticed the differences between them lol That would be Awesome! Ive been wanting to try out the higher end Holosuns for awhile. The best way to reach me for that in on my Patreon. The messenger is easier for me to use and communicate with.
Would the he530 have a larger window and FOV over the Holosun 512. I have the 512 with Magnifier but the 512 is huge optic and eats up a lot of rail and also how pleased are you with the 530, I’m thinking of taking the jump for it.. she not cheap by Means.?
Thanks for the amazing review. I recently ordered one of these and do to watching your review before hand was able to realize I had a slightly less than ideal performing unit. The eye box and glass clarity did not match what you were describing in this review so I sent it back and got a replacement and the second one was solid!
Great review. I have really come to love the versatility and flexibility that a red dot /magnifier combo offers. I have the Sig Juliet 4 magnifier and I am really impressed with it.
@@CDOES So would you take that over the Holosun that you just reviewed in this video? That’s my two choices I’m stuck on and why I’m here. Thanks in advance!
By far the BEST review I've seen so far. Super thorough and easy to understand. Just got a he510 Gr for my rugger 556(my 1st AR) and was debating on adding a magnifier and this sealed the deal for me. Can't wait to pair them up and go pew pew. Thanks.
I purchased one on your recommendation, paired w/ a strikefire ii red dot. Beautiful combo! Only downside that I've had so far is that it made me realize that I'm developing astigmatism in my late 20's... :P Can't wait to go to the range!
Just ordered one of these to go with my SU-16 and Holosun 510C. Looks a little chunky, but I'll be glad to finally try out some magnification. I think it will be a real flexible setup, and if I positively do not need magnification I can always yoink it off and chuck it in a bag to save the weight on the rifle. Can't wait to play with it!
I paired the hm3x with the Holosun 403r, $330 for the pair. 1/3 co-witness lined up perfectly. The eye relief was the thing that kind of surprised me. I normally like to run my stock all the way back. With the hm3x, I have to have my stock all the way to the front, my nose almost touching the charging handle to get a full view with no shadowing. I do like that when I move the magnifier off to the right, I'm able to pop up my mbus rear sight with no interference. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, just need to get used to being up close on my stock.
Great review!! I have been considering getting a new magnifier for a while now. I bought a Feyachi M37 to go with a Feyachi V30 2MOA Red-dot. This was a first time buy of this type of sight system, so I wasn't sure I was going to like it and I didn't want to get in too deep price wise. Having been an iron sight guy for most of my life I have preferred my peep sights to scopes for all but the longest of shots. Even in the military we used iron sights for us standard grunts, so I was reluctant to make the move to these new-fangled gadgets. However, these old eyes have been needing a little help lately, so I thought I'd give it a try. It has taken some getting used to, but I'm now convinced to their benefit for us old guys. The biggest problem I've had with my magnifier is the eye relief. Finding that sweet spot isn't so sweet. I've seen the reviews for the HM3XT and am impressed with it, but I'm a little hesitant because of it only being a 3x's magnifier. My Feyachi is a 1.5 to 5x's optic and it works great for my shot verification at 100 yrds. Since this isn't something, I do a lot, I'm not sure I need the extra magnification, but it is a concern of mine. Anyone got any helpful feedback?
FOV enhancement happened at 5:45 when you flipped the magnifier on because, the glass for the front of the magnifier is just a centimeter or so from the red dot glass. This would be like having your eye just 1 cm away from the red dot. Want a wide FOV with your dot? Just move it closer to your eye!
Great video. Is there an optimal placement between magnifier to the optic? I typically see them mounted right next to each other but wondering about monolithic rails where the magnifier is mounted far back for eye relief , yet the optic might be very far forward even on the handguard itself.
I have always been curious about magnifiers. What it did for the vortex strikefire should be a permanent setup without folding it away lol... When I first started the strikefire ll was my first optic and red dot and it was cool you have the green and red laser, but the battery life and or no shake awake quickly made me realize trijicon or aimpoint only. I do have the Viper gen ll but that is not for defensive purposes. Great reviews. You should have more subs because when it comes to reviews I like yours moreso than the bigger channels on UA-cam.
Thanks mate! Yeah the SF II has some draw backs. But its built like a tank and just works. A great starter red dot, but there are some better options for similar money.
Great review as always! I hear that you really have to move your head closer to this magnifier to see it well. Has that been the case in your experience?
Have the same magnifier, love it, just wish they could shed about 2 or 3 ounces from it! A 4x and 5x magnifier from them would be great too with some BDC/ranging and holdover/move stadia would be nice while leaving the center clear of course, I know a flip to side these things can't be guaranteed to be precise but it would be close.
Aslong as you properly train with either setup, your going to be fine. Uber lightweight still has to go to the red dot corner. Ease and practicality goes to the LPVO imo
@@CDOES Got the 503g and holosun magnifier, just have to get the riser on without stripping the screws but even with it not lining up perfectly it seems really nice. Very useful videos btw, pretty much only considered buying something if you had a video of it.
I definitely want to go with HM3X but can't decide between the hs503g acss or the 510c. I am near sided and do have a slight Stigmatism. I've looked through a 510c in person and liked it but have not looked through a 503. What are your thoughts? Thanks
If one is good for you, the other should be as well. Me personally I like the size of the view thru the 510. That'd probably be my choice. But get what you feel works best for you. And if anything you could always return it, or sell it.
I've got the 503. Not all astigmatism is the same - I can't see the drop dots at all, but the Chevron is fine. I have an HM3X on the way... we'll see if it helps that out when it arrives.
Hello there ! I really want an etched optic, not just a simple red dot so after this video I'm considering this magnifier + an acss prism, either 1x or 2x. How does it handle longer distance shooting ? Is it actually a viable option or do you get some weird parallaxe and whatnot? Thanks for the great review btw
I have a question that may seem silly, but I'll ask anyway. In the video are the images at max magnification? I didn't see any zoom footage so I'm assuming it was at max. On the range you said the known distance was at 50yrds, and the targets were definitely enhanced but I wasn't sure if you were zoomed all the way in or not. Just curious.
I've bought 2 magnifiers and both don't work for run and gun because of how bad the eye relief is. It had a good 3 inches for eye relief but if u weren't perfectly behind it you'd just see the optic shadow and I was wondering what magnifier has the least amount of "eye shadow"
Scope shadow is a good word for it. That is the dark area on the inside, of the glass, towards the outside edge. the Vortex Micro 3x had a fair amount of this if you werent 100% in the right spot. and that spot had a very shallow amount of leway. This has a bit more and looks better as well. I have a G33 coming in soon that im curious to try out. As well as a Juliet 3x micro. This so far seems to be the best.
I know it's been a few years since this was posted, but I am having a hard time choosing between this and the Vortex VMX-3T. I'm leaning to the vortex for the loyalty, warranty, the eotech footprint, and I've heard the eye relief is better on the vortex as well. Any advice?
Dude I know!... The link when I copied it was $199 Prime shipped. Then my video goes public and the price shot up. My brother bought it at $270 not realizing. Idk what is going on.
I’m assuming the issue with the scalarworks mount is that the holosuns (reportedly) have a thicker base than aimpoints to they sit a tad higher on any given mount.
@@frankopanklaric I did get the vortex 3x micro. I love it. Eye relief is exactly what the say it is. A little short. Glass is very clear. If I wanted another 3x I would buy it again. I like it so well I am looking at getting the 6x so I can have a little more magnification. I run the 3x on a 14.5 for home defense but when I take it to the range I put 3x on it so I can shoot longer distances. Also you might look at the eotech g45 which is 5x. But for a 3x vortex 3x micro it the way to go. Hope this helps.
hey C_DOES? could the height offset you experienced with the holosun on the scalarworks mount been due to the mount being of 1.93'' height as oppossed to a lower true lower 1/3 cowitness?
quale sarebbe la tecnica giusta per tarare il magnifier? va prima tarato il red dot e successivamente il magnificatore o va fatto in altro modo? a che distanza tarate normalmente con cal. 5.56?
@@reekgoesoutside ive got one on the way, but in the past using other magnifiers that worked for my astigmatism. It's basically like wearing a set of prescription glasses. Also for some reason dots seem to flare more inside than out, I think you'll see an improvement going outside. If you arent sure whether you have an astigmatism try looking through the small aperture on iron sights while looking at your red dot and if it improves you probably have an astigmatism.
Hey I’m having mixed feelings. I have a holo 512c red dot I’m trying to get the best magnifier for this set-up, any suggestion and what are your feelings on it? Any info helps bad/good let’s hear it. Thanks everyone

Just purchased the Holosun HS403C. Would the HM3X work just the same (as good) as it would on the HS503G?
Great review. Thank you
How does this compare to the 3xt, is it worth 100bucks more? I am putting it behind the AEMS red dot.
Didi you end up getting one? I have an aems myself and I miss the maginification I had with my LPVO since it got put on my .308.
Great review, Can you do a review on a 3-9 x 32E sniper scope?
If I can get my hands on one, absolutely.
Any chance we'll see a Sig Juliet3 Micro or Romeo & Juliet red dot and magnifier combo review?
I think you'll see something soon
mine lines up perfect with the Holosun 503cu
hey C_DOES? could the height offset you experienced with the holosun on the scalarworks mount been due to the mount being of 1.93'' height as oppossed to a lower true lower 1/3 cowitness?
100% just didn't have the right spacers available to make it perfect.
awesome sauce getting one for my romeo 5 red dot is the height the same for the standard sig rred dot
I have one. It's exceptional, as is the HS503G ACSS CQB Reticle Red Dot it's paired with.
I have a 403b. Would you think that they would be the same height?
@@coyoteodie4458 Yes they are same height.
@@CustomJeep , thankyou sir for the fast reply. That makes up my mind.
@@CustomJeep bought it. Had to use the supplied height adapter but it lined right up. Love it! Thank you again.
quale sarebbe la tecnica giusta per tarare il magnifier? va prima tarato il red dot e successivamente il magnificatore o va fatto in altro modo? a che distanza tarate normalmente con cal. 5.56?
How would you compare this with the Vortex Mini?
Will magpull flip irons fit under the back of this 3x?
That is a good qustion. I unfortunately dont have it here with me. But I would say it would be very close.
I see a slight starburst through my holosun, im assuming this would just magnify the starburst?
More then likely, yes.
You might also have a slight astigmatism, which depending on how you adjust the diopter on the magnifier, could actually go away.
@@TacticalTack thank you that's good to know. When I'm outdoors on a low setting the starburst effect isnt too bad. I might just go ahead and buy.
Could you use this on a UNITY FAST FTC OMNI Magnifier Mount?
Hey I’m having mixed feelings. I have a holo 512c red dot I’m trying to get the best magnifier for this set-up, any suggestion and what are your feelings on it? Any info helps bad/good let’s hear it. Thanks everyone
Will this magnifier work with aftermarket mounts?
Have you looked at any Sig magnifiers ?
I May have one in for testing as we speak.....
How is the line up with with holosun magnifier and the strikefire 2 on the rail?
Can we get a review of the SIG Juliet magnifiers?
One is coming soon
C_DOES awesome! I would love a magnifier shootout comparing the holosun to the more expensive ones
@@narutobroken that will be nice
