The trick for preinfusing works with this machine as with some of the others that lack the feature. When water is up to shot temperature (do not press the steam wand button) -- 1) Put your shot glass or mug under the portafilter; 2) Open the steam wand valve 1/2 turn (put something under it to catch the water spray), 3) Immediately press the shot button; 4) Wait 5 seconds or so (it's pre-infusing now), 5) Close the steam wand valve completely (some do this gradually, some all at once), and 6) Now the shot will start. Press shot button again when finished as you usually would. Basically, you're just diverting some of the water from the grouphead to the steam wand to get a trickle of water from the grouphead which effectively results in pre-infusion without the pressure to fully run the shot. Closing the wand now allows the full pressure to begin the shot. I've been doing this for about a year and it works. Until you get into the habit of doing this, you'll occasionally mess up and do something like turning off the shot button instead of closing the steam wand valve.
Thank you for the review! Just picked up my Go, and it’s been a rocky start. I’ve found steaming to be very difficult despite having no issues getting perfect milk on my previous machine (Breville). Part of me wonders if it’s going from a 1-hole to 2-hole steam wand tip and having to unlearn muscle memory. Will try turning it up to 140 like you suggested!
It took me a couple weeks to get used to going from the Breville to the Go. Keep practicing, you’ll get it! The Go is definitely more powerful, now that I’m used to it I love steaming milk drinks.
Just wanted to add one thing, because it confused me: European models with 230V heat up a fair bit quicker. both startup and also when switching to steam mode.
good musician with trombone in the background !!! How low can you get the extraction pressure? Did you try lowering it during the shot? (At the moment I have a Rocket Appartamento at home, and a Robot Cafelat at the office).
Thanks for a user experience review. I found it helpful. Any chance you would consider reviewing the coffee grinder your using in your setup? I am sold on the profitec go. my research, but still looking g for affordable yet durable espresso grinder.
Really nice bar. I just ordered a specialita. I love the GO but no more budget left at the moment. Maybe in the future I will upgrade and replace my breville
Hey Nathaniel, Let me start of with saying I'm really enjoying the videos as I also have the profitec go. One thing I struggle with is getting decent latte art with it with full milk. Could you show me how to get the art that good with an video with tips?
Practice practice practice. I’ve done lots of barista work in the past and it took me a while to get the hang of it. Watch people on UA-cam and instagram Use more milk than you think… you might have a little leftover at times until you get the dosing just right Listen for a light paper ripping sound (aerating the milk) and allow the milk to swirl and circulate If it’s too fluffy, like a cappuccino, put less air in the milk, if it’s too thin, put more air in the milk. Oat milk can be more difficult to work with than cows milk. I like the Chobani brand, oatly barista is great but pricey. Good luck and enjoy!
Hi, thanks for the review! One question, what do you think of the stock baskets that come with the machine? I've heard they're already very high quality and there's no need to upgrade them, so have you noticed any significant differences?
I’ve not experimented with the baskets. I was looking at purchasing an IMS or VST… but I’m happy with my shots for now, so I’m waiting to upgrade. People online say there’s not much difference. I’ll try it out when I want to buy a new toy :)
I’ve had the Go for over a year and am quite happy. One thing I don’t like is that when I have a scale under my cup, the bottom of the scale gets very wet from the solenoid discharge. Have you noticed that? I also think my pucks are sometimes too wet but that may be dialing-in inconsistencies. I have a niche and I am noticing shot variations and inconsistent extractions. I can’t tell if the issue is with my Niche or the Go. Are you ever noticing your Go delivering inconsistent extractions or sometimes leaving you with soupy pucks?
Yeah, unfortunately that will happen with most machines. I’ve had a Lucca A53 and a BBE w the same wet results. I just gotta keep wiping the scale off :) When my beans are 7-14 days old, my shots are super consistent - as they age, espresso gets more finicky and inconsistent. I wouldn’t worry too much about the soupy puck - most say there’s little difference. I’ve seen a slayer machine have soupy pucks but tasted great. Try experimenting with dose size and basket size - that might change the results. If there’s a lot of room in the basket, that perhaps could make it more soupy? - but I hear it shouldn’t effect how it taste. Good luck w your espresso adventures :)
I have the exact same machine. What temp are you using for steaming? That's the only part I do not have down yet. I cannot for the life of me steam milk to where i get that microfoam. The temp i'm using is 266f or 130c. How far are you putting the nozzle in the milk?
I set mine to 140 c. I watched lots of UA-cam videos to help me steam. Aerate and circulate the milk. Listen for a light paper ripping sound. Takes practice- good luck. 🍀
Good evening! You are doing a great job! By the way, I got the same machine as you and I would like you to tell me where I can get the wooden accessories that your machine has! Thank you!
Can I get a name of some of the accessories you are using. The coffee bean container, grinder, knock box? I like your set up and any other accessories 😊
@@NateDrinksCoffee I picked up the same grinder and I already ordered the modifications in Etsy for the dial, tilt, and single dose. Need a coffee container and was debating about what knock box. Thanks

About 2mins 30secs from when the espresso is poured to the milk being added. That's the problem I have with this machine. As an Espresso/Americano/Long black machine this machine is a great machine. But for milk based drinks it's far from ideal. You can't really reverse the process and steam the milk 1st because of the time it takes to get the temp back down ready to pour the espresso either.
Totally agree. It’s not the fastest for hot drinks. And for Americanos there’s no hot water spout :( I still love the machine, but if you’re trying to make many hot drinks, far from ideal
Profitec sources out it's baskets from various manufacturers and there's an excellent video (ua-cam.com/video/q2VHiDkkIOc/v-deo.html) of basket reviews that states that Profitec baskets are excellent. The hole pattern looks just like a VST without the branding. My Go came with what I believe are IMS baskets. It has the same exact hole pattern as another IMS basket I own. There should be no need to purchase the VST if your Go came with that hole pattern and same if yours came with the IMS baskets.
I've tried some tropical weather, it came out super floral and fruity. Almost like tea. I'm no super taster, but they tasted great to me. Much better than my previous Breville Barista Express.
@@NateDrinksCoffee Yeah. Mine was even slower like 10s. But mine was broken. The pump tube has a leak. Just replaced to a new one waiting for the shipping.
The Profitec Go is rattling all around when making an espresso. Driptray is wacky. Lid of the water reservoir is wacky. No dedicated hot water switch. The Go is full of quirks and downsides.
Sorry you don’t like your Go. I hear the GS3 has a dedicated water switch and doesn’t rattle! :) Jokes aside, it’s definitely not perfect - but far more consistent than a BBE. 👍

It sounds like have a similar path!
I had a BBE, then upgraded the grinder to the Specialità. Saved up and purchased the Profitec. It’s a fun toy :)
@NateDrinksCoffee that's a pretty common path I guess. How was your experience with the upgrade in terms of taste and quality of the shot?
How did you remove the knob? Looks really good!

When you were purging to cool down, what were you doing out of interest? It was difficult to tell. Were you running water out of the group head?
Correct - Purging after steaming to cool it down - The boiler has to fill back up after steaming.
What is the temperature stability? Dose the temperature of the pid reflect the actual brewing temperature? Dose the temperature drop during the shots?
Do you have the older model? The new one has no- burn steam wand and new Pid software with faster heating!
I’m not sure - but mine does have a “no burn steam wand” and heat up time is 5-6 minutes.

Did you have to turn the pressure up from out of the box?i feel mine is brewing time is a little long. What are your dosage and brew times?
The pressure was set to 10 bars. Depends on the beans, but usually I dose 18 grams in and go for 36 grams out over 32-35 seconds.

Not super slow, but slowly yes. It almost acts like a pre-infusion imo… by 6-7 seconds it’s at the 9-10 bars
