Thanks for this. My father is a WWII Navy Vet (South Pacific) who survived a bombing and staffing of his ship. Alas the US is not as patriotic as it once was. Always good to remember, as you are doing.
I'm glad I'm not alone in how much Remembrance Day means to me, huge respect to your grandfather. The Douglas C54... what a machine and great history! With the controlled airspace I'm very much acquainted with that sort of situation, needing to listen out to the traffic currently on the ILS and keep that picture in your mind all the time of when you can expect to progress. I'm sure the airline passengers were waving frantically shouting "Look... it's Terry!" Great video as always
Hi Terry I loved the video keep up the good work, I loved the mention of the skymaster there I also volunteered work on it just before covid and throughout helping restore the aircraft and mainly polishing some areas on the airframe and the engine cowls, glad to see this in your video as it makes me proud to have my part on it. Hope to see you out there one day clear skies sir!
I absolutely enjoyed this video. My sentiments are the same as your appreciation of those soldiers. My Dad came home from the South Pacific on a hospital ship. His best friend died on a bombing mission and is buried in the Arden’s cemetery and my one of my uncles was pilot of a B17 he flew out of Sudbury and got destroyed in the skis over Parcham Germany and became a pow although many of his crew were killed. It’s very sad and disturbing that in America and I believe the UK and many other nations the younger generations are trying to get rid of the very ideas these men fought and died to protect. Once the youth destroy the freedoms we have, all those men of the Greatest Generation will have suffered and died for nothing. Godd help us.
My Great Uncle flew Bostons at Finmere and then went on to South Africa as an instructor for a time and then went onto Mossies bomber before being shot down and becoming a POW.
What an absolutely stunning video Terry! It's lovely to see them restoring the Skymaster, I'll have to pop down sometime. Wishing you all the best for 2024 buddy :)
This is my first comment on your videos, and I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the dedication and effort you put into your often underrated videos (when it comes to views). I finished my PPL a couple of months ago, and your videos were always a great source of inspiration and motivation. For the first half of my practical training, I learned to fly the PS28. While I also enjoy the 172R, I'll gladly come back to the cruiser next weekend since I really like the flight characteristics of that smaller aircraft. Especially when flying alone, it's also a very cost-effective alternative, and it's way more agile than the old trusty workhorse Cessna. Best wishes and clear skies from Austria (LOWG)!
Gerhard, thank you for this very kind comment sir. Congratulations on getting your licence and if you ever get over to the UK you must let me know. All the very best Captain.
Great as always Terry! Bring back the 'late' sunset time of 16:15 🤣 Lovely sentiment to remember all who served 👍 Hope 2024 will bring you many more happy flights!
Nice historic stories linking aviation and your family…we have Anzac Day here but also respect the November 11th Remembrance Day , nice idea to celebrate the day with a flight!
Another great video Terry! And a lovely heartfelt tribute to all our war heroes, well done sir! 👌🏻 ❤ I noticed you were quite minimal with your 'thanks for the crossing' to air traffic, but I guess you're more accurate than me with your RT. I'm always totally OTT at thanking them! 😆 Keep the vids coming 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Kev. 😂😂😂 I just rewatched that bit saying goodbye to Luton and you’re correct I was definitely a bit curt 🤣 I suppose with these busy guys I try to keep it as short as possible however maybe that was a bit too short and rude 😃 Amazing support as always and you know I love reading your comments, thank you. 🙏
Another great video Terry. One small bit of RT advice, always best to wait to be told to 'pass your message' before actually passing your message. In both situations in the video the controllers gave you other instructions (squawk x, just report your callsign) and you dived in with your life story 😂. It's only minor but may make the difference some time. Keep up the videos, you are a top ambassador for the joy of aviation in this country.
Good point! However when I'm speaking to busy controllers I like to try and keep my interactions as minimal as possible, sometimes if you wait you can go to the back of the queue, I do agree with you though, my RT is not the best after 30+ years you'd think I would have been better :-)
Lovely landing Terry, beautiful flying conditions. Finmere’s just one of those places I’ve never flown into despite it being very close to me too. Must do it! Luton though I’ve done loads of transits over and I find they will usually accommodate. Even had a transit before I had a transponder based in primary radar returns 👍. I too do wonder what the passengers think as we fly overhead or behind the landing aircraft
Finmere is wonderful place to visit. The PeaBee has been there already ;) You'll have to try and get to Courtney's Or Turweston. I had to work on Remembrance Sunday but I did conduct my 2 minute Silence. Thanks for sharing as always Terry.
Hi Terry, Happy New Year!🎉😊😊 Finmere, not too far from me. In MSFS I enjoy landing King Air 350 and Dakota's into there - over the fence, short rw and lots of fun. Hear hear re AD, my family served, my grandad being a pro soldier in BEF etc fighting the a Waffen SS, two uncles SBS, dad 7th Hussars. These are troubling times too, more often than not our own governments are the real enemy. The Skymaster is a very cool aeroplane, the four engine the Dakota🤔🤔 Can you make a trip to Popham, Gloucester and Wellsbourne so as to highlight possible problems with closure, housing development (I'm not sure what's happening at Old Sarum - has it had a stay of execution?). Keep em coming Terry😊👍💜
Hi, in my understanding, pumping oil into the pan at the beginning isn't required operationally but only to measure the oil level (due to the oil otherwise sinking down to the wet sump). BR and happy new year
Yep we do this also to check oil on the Aeroprakt A22 Foxbat with its Rotax 110 engine…safe and a required action, otherwise you can’t correct oil level
Hi Martyn my aircraft G-NJCZ is at Andrewsfield but it’s grounded atm (I’ll explain in a video) but Vince has kindly let me use G-OOPY which is still at North Weald.
The grumpiness with the controller on your previous flight wasn't particularly good airmanship. Particularly as it wasn't directly his fault for disallowing the zone transit. I understand it's annoying when you've pre planned a zone transit, and then you're re routed. However, good airmanship dictates you should always be polite and not what I can only describe as grumpy over the radio. I'm a full time flight instructor so maybe it's just me.
I know, there were other things that day that contributed to my unprofessional attitude but I should not have deliberately conveyed my dissatisfaction to the controller. Thank you sir, great comment.

God bless you sir and your hero father please thank him from me.
Enjoying the videos
Thank you James.
I bet your grandad could still remember all the rifle drill to the day he died. Much respect and thanks to him.
Wonderful and so informative great son x
Thanks Terry. Great video. Nice insights on zone crossing. 👍🏻

Something for everyone, in this one, Terry.
Very nice.
And thanks.
Cheers Phil
Always love your videos!
Thank you Yannis 👍
Great to see them restoring the skymaster!
Well they have been at for 10 years so far not sure when it will be :-)
Love that! I hope to visit there soon after completing my PPL
Excellent👌
Thank you! Cheers!

Wow amazing hero's in your family, thank you so much.
Great stuff, Terry!
Thank you kindly!
@@ShortField how often do you fly over to old warden? I’m going to try and visit a few times this year - hopefully I’ll catch you again!
Fantastic, thank you!
Thank you for watching and the kind words.

Much appreciated Mark!
Happy new year❤
Happy new year to you too.
Enjoyed the history lesson on the Skymaster and Finmere, thanks Terry another quality video… keep them coming 👍
Thanks Dave 👍

My favourite of your videos so far Terry 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Wow, thanks Geoff I really do appreciate this. OK deffo grabbing a coffee together this year and I'm buying.
Entertaining as always :) Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you sir.
GREAT to see a new vid from you Terry. I thought you'd *sloped* off again. ('Sloped', get it?) 😄
😁 Still here!
Nice video, you should pop up to Leeds East (EGCM) ex ref church fenton, I am based there it’s a great place to fly in too 👍🏻

Thanks for the video again. Interesting the hold was just orbits and not like a sector entry and hold with tear drop/parrallel/direct etc.
❤
Great video and lovely flight, might visit myself on the strength of this.
You should, it's superb!
👍
Terry. Thought you re-located to Andrews Airfield, but looks like you're base is back at Weald?
Hi Martyn my aircraft G-NJCZ is at Andrewsfield but it’s grounded atm (I’ll explain in a video) but Vince has kindly let me use G-OOPY which is still at North Weald.
Did you get the London Luton transit crossing on the way back as well?
Yes I did, were you the controller? :-)
