My only issue with M'gann's character arc throughout the series is that, while I buy that she changed as a person and recognized her mistakes, there was never any amount of consequence towards her actions in season 2. Lobotomizing people and erasing a partner's memory are tremendous crimes, yet there's never any serious consequences for her. Geo-Force lost his friends over his action and was branded a villain. Roy Harper was humiliated and kicked out the Team despite saving them. Yet M'gann gets to keep her good standing with her friends and colleagues? She gets to keep her boyfriend and even marries him?
Nobody branded Geo-Force a villain. They just simply didn’t agree with him killing his uncle what’s so ever. Megan literally made Conner break up with her, didn’t earn his forgiveness easily, and she saw first hand what damage she did to Kaldur and sought out to fix it. Roy was literally putting the team in danger multiple times, one of which damn near got them all sucked into space, just so he could avoid capture. And Megan didn’t actually kill anybody so there’s that and her actions didn’t put the team in gigantic peril.
@starrsmith3810 They basically denounced Geo Force immediately and made no attempts to reconcile with him. He felt so alone he let the doctor who betrayed him and his sister back into his life. Geo is misguided but I don't think he's irredeemable, especially then. But he definitely got a lot of consequences. M'gann, I'd argue, did NOT face consequences proportional to her actions. She LOBOTOMIZED people who were in opposition to her, which is essentially killing them when they're in such a catatonic, brain dead state. Conner rightfully broke up with her as an ultimatum, and she proceeded to immediately hook up with Lagoon Boy...so I wouldn't really count her being broken up with as a consequence that made her regret her actions. Especially because once she finally learns how wrong her actions were via Kaldur, she pretty quickly gets back with Conner... I'd also argue that she did put her team in peril. More specifically, Kaldur and Artemis, even if she didn't have a reason to think they would be (I get she wouldn't care for Kaldur, and Artemis was "dead"). Just because she was able to undo the damage she did to Kaldur, it didn't mean she didn't put her team in harm's way or that she wouldn't eventually with the way she'd callously and ruthlessly rip through people's minds in the name of justice. I really really wish they showed her growth and redemption with that more...it would've made it easier for me to stomach her and Conner getting married. I had to try my best to pretend S2 didn't exist for me to get invested in her storyline in S4...would've also liked for Conner to have made her work for forgiveness a little more and still show the lasting impact that trying to memory erase your partner would have, especially when she was dishonest with him in S3.
I'm mean connor didn't fully forgive her because one in the newer seasons they had argument and think connor brought up her abuse of her powers again and she told him she changes but Connor told that forgiving is not forgeting so it safe to say that he totally forget nor fully forgive her.
I’m so happy that Implicitly Pretentious had made so many videos about Young Justice because there’s a weird lack of love for this show on UA-cam. M’gann especially gets a lot of hate, so this was especially refreshing because she might be my favorite character on the show in terms of depth and intrigue.
Megan's journey is... incredible. I think that her and Connor have the most "visible" maturing from all of the team, mostly because how unique their respective circumstance are. Megan isnt exactly young by human standards, sure she is young by martian standards but the years she lived on mars, the trauma and escapism... they did a number on her. Second season was when we truly saw they true M'gann, and it wasn't a pretty sight, she retreated in "pragmatism" and bitterness, trying to rationalize her actions as necessary, knowing how much she was hurting those close to her. To then understand herself, accepting that she may never be forgiven for her wrongs but to keep going and being a better person, being a beacon of possibility and hope. And Connor... GOD, i think it is offensive from my part to try to resume his journey, from that angry and lost state fearing not having the right to be alive, to becoming a teacher, a guide, a partner, a hero, and with hope... a father, he will be an incredible father. Connor is amazing, M'gann is amazing, this show is AMAZING.
My major issue with M'gann is how weirdly unimpactful her s2 actions were in s3 and beyond. I'm not saying she needed to go to jail, but it was odd to me that Conner was the only one who seemed to have taken issue with her brain blasting long term, and the s3 section where Kaldur tells her to brain blast everyone felt tacked on. I do love her arc of growing and healing, just felt weirdly resetting of status quo for her in general later.
People with albinism are still mistreated and occasionally sacrificed. The show makes it seem more like this, then actually being Caucasian or something.

I honestly don't think that Miss Martian can be considered a villain during season 2 of young justice. Despite the clearly wrong things she did in season 2, Megan was neither evil nor was she a villain. She definitely did the wrong things for reasons that weren't necessarily right, and even using her powers on Conner wasn't enough to make her stop. It literally took Megan using her powers in anger to hurt Caldur because she thought he killed Artemis, only to learn that it wasn't true that Megan finally realized the consequences of her actions. Artemis was also forced to make Megan confront her mistake or risk the villains finding out the plan of Artemis and Caldur undercover. It was here that not only did Megan think she deserved to suffer for her mistakes, but she started to try to make things right. As misguided as she was, Miss Martian was neither evil nor a villain. She was just complicated.
@@StareachValcinI disagree she was mind raping them. There is no other way to describe it. It wasn't just the damage but the action itself that was wrong. @@dumbidea1007 I agree that what Miss Martian did was wrong, but that doesn't make her a villain or evil. Just very misguided in her approach to things due to how telepathy is connected to martian culture, combined with her own insecurities of being a white martian, which is low class breed of martian in the young justice universe. Miss Martian does ultimately recognize her mistakes and try to do right by them, which you are clearly ignoring. Also, Professor X is usually not an evil or morally grey character.

A great retrospective look at Miss Martian throughout her character arc in young justice. I definitely enjoyed this version of Miss Martian and I hope that we get to see more from this version in another season of young justice.
Despite “Outsiders” and “Phantoms” being more controversial than the original 2 seasons, they did a fantastic job of fleshing out the events of those 2 seasons, especially characters like M’gann & Conner.
Props to the voice actors, the way M'gann sounds sensitive, regretful, angry, and sincere. Shes a very complicated character, but her performance also beings a lot of those feelings to the surface. Similar with Conner, they way they play off each other tears me apart, but its amazing to think that there is a "happy end" to it all.
Me being 44 year old man literaly crying because this show, the range of emotion is a roller coaster. Growing up.with the DCAU has been one.of the best things in my life. Even when the series has been over i get to get on YT and listen to people who truely appreciate it for what it was and what it is. ❤
Honestly I like her as a character but I love and enjoy that the show had the time to not only call out her actions but slowly and surely mature her and give her a redemption over time.
M’gann in S2 reminds me a lot of the “Evil Willow” arc in Buffy: the (attempted) erasure of their partner’s memories, the increased reliance and recklessness of their power, increased violence towards enemies. It’s not a perfect one to one comparison, but I just thought the similarities were an interesting parallel
Wow, i never believed so much people hated her before read the comment section. Like around 5 years passed until season 4 and people are still mad for the acts of an immature girl that matured This series shows that no one is perfect and season 1 already proved that with maestry. We are in a never ending jorney of being better persons
Honestly i think she was a great character and honestly she was brought into other universes like the Arrowverse. I like her dynamic with Connor and how at times she could be the heart of the group, but also a darkness under the surface. I hope we get one more season of Young Justice.
Thank you for your art, it helps more people in more ways than you probably realize, please never become outwardly pretentious and honestly; thank you.
M’gann is my favorite character and her story arc is my favorite of all the characters arcs. I love psychic powers and it even inspired my power system in my personal work
Ngl, I wouldn't have ever been willing to forgive M'gann if she tried to f*ck with my head like she did to Connor. There are only a couple of things I can think of that could be more violating and none that scare me more.
It's weird that you say you dislike Miss Martian's brother when he himself was abandoned by both his sisters, neglected by his parents, and shunned by his society. Sure, his actions aren't the best but he's actively fighting for the white Martians by any means necessary. His end goal in season four (aside from making the Martians fight one another) was to earn a home planet for the white Martians so they could live in peace away from the bigoted society. Megan never once tries to understand his point of view and demonizes him just because he wants freedom for his people.
She never “understands” because his actions about going about his agenda are absolutely in the wrong. Rooted in viable principles & emotions aside. He can’t ride the “my sister abandoned” pity car forever. At some point he has to take responsibility for himself and his actions. “This river is real. And your problems are real. You can wait around for someone to help you. You have to help yourself.” And M’gann abandoning him, which I agree was something she didn’t handle well, is the only leg people who defend M’Comm have to stand on and it was always a pretty piss poor leg to begin with, but as time goes on and he gets older and his actions become more malicious…..that argument begins to rein hollow.

Things we do as teenagers can sometimes be emotionally charged, petulant, even cruel. What is important is not to judge ourselves as monsters into adulthood, but to learn from those experiences to become more rounded, responsible adults. Youth is the time where we can make mistakes and still have time to heal from them. Even if you've done something deeply wrong, you still have time to pull yourself back and become a better adult. That's what I took away from M'gann's story arc, anyways.
It’s quite true high self esteem leads to high ego. Not saying you need low self esteem but you shouldn’t feel more about yourself than is necessary. Too much or too little self esteem is bad. Best to stay in the sweet spot in the middle. If anything maybe slightly low. The current two generations of egotistical narcissists raised on high self esteem are all the proof you need!
This was fun. However, in the interest of encouraging you to branch out from comics-related media, I suggest you check out the class series Reboot from the 1990s and early 2000s; I think you might be surprised by the characters, and it would allow you to take a look at themes that you were probably considering but didn't have the right material to use. That said, I recommend avoiding the mass of tropes that comprised Netflix's Guardian Code; it was an insult to the original series at best. Also, I think you might have fun trying to spot and catch all of the little references to other series, and like, some of them are a bit more subtle than others. The series pulls from a lot of different places, but still manages to do its own thing. And if you know where to look, the series has managed to not only establish its own lore but also have some episodes, especially in the latter half of the series, that not only build on this lore but also build off of it a comments for those episodes. And you might also spot some interesting parallels to some characters you've grown to get a better understanding of over the course of this channel. Also, Reboot is a classic series that a lot of people that spent time watching really do want to see get a continuation or sequel done right; as mentioned prior, Reboot: Guardian Code was not this, almost none what it had going on was Reboot, and what little it did have that was ironically Reboot was incredibly poorly managed to the point that fans of the original Reboot felt like they were being insulted and disrespected along with the source material. And before that trainwreck that was basically nothing more than a collection of tropes slapped together in the laziest ways possible was even announced, there was a rumor going around the internet a few years after the series finale, which was a cliffhanger ending, that there was a movie, or series of movies, that would officially cap off the series; I think you can still find the teaser trailer for the Reboot movie on UA-cam somewhere.

My point guys, is this: the "dignified position" if you know *anything at all* about anything of this kind of situation; you know that to be in power, especially in the Eastern Bloc, or its "eternal equivalent" as it were, really is a death-sentence, it is a LOT like being a manager inside the USSR under "Comrade" Stalin; and if you don't know the deadly danger *that* means: buddy: you better RUN and find out from studying history, especially the "Stalin Purges" real fast! It is the *furthest* thing from safe! In that kind of situation; you want to be a commoner, as destitute as it would be, you're far better off far from power than you'd be close to it: that kind of exposure to it will KILL you, literally; so would her head foe in that kind of a mix of universes.

Big problem with the show is how it doesn’t really feel like M’gann learned the right lesson. Honestly, she got off relatively Scott free despite how honestly bad her actions were. Like the only one who addresses it is Conner. The show either didn’t have time to delve into the consequences of her actions due to the bloated cast and numerous plot threads; or it didn’t think more needed to be said about it. She cares about lobotomizing and abusing her powers when it came to affecting people she cared about, to say nothing about abusing it with enemies, which was a point Conner brought up but all but dropped.
@@thunderlion6909 Yeah, and then the show tried to make Conner in the wrong and even apologize for understandably having some reprehensions.
@@sabrina21797 I mean, what would even be a fair punishment for LOBOTOMIZING someone?
Like, how do you measure something like that?
Opposite of how they treat the man in the comics
My major issue with M'gann is how weirdly unimpactful her s2 actions were in s3 and beyond. I'm not saying she needed to go to jail, but it was odd to me that Conner was the only one who seemed to have taken issue with her brain blasting long term, and the s3 section where Kaldur tells her to brain blast everyone felt tacked on.
I do love her arc of growing and healing, just felt weirdly resetting of status quo for her in general later.
I agree. It hurts in particular because Kaldur is the one that ends up in hospital but his feelings about what Megan did aren’t explored
And let's not forget she did it in front of jhon ao it's like they have the approval of the league

As a brown man I laughed my ass off when I heard “you’re white” “OH NO!”
People with albinism are still mistreated and occasionally sacrificed. The show makes it seem more like this, then actually being Caucasian or something.
Yah that seemed slighty short sighted to make the "minority" characters on Mars white...
@@theninjamaster67I don't see how there's anything wrong with that? Fictional racism can take any form lol, it doesn't have to feature a dark colored person or species
@@theninjamaster67were they supposed to make them black?
@@jagar5580 Or make them some other color like blue or purple they don't need to be a direct parallel to real world races they're martians they could've been any color they want but for some reason they went with white which seems like a strange choice to me when they have such a wide range of colors out there to choose from.
Wow, just the intro alone has convinced me to watch young justice..ive heard its a good show but i didnt realize it got heavy or serious. Great video once again! I always enjoy seeing the notifications from this channel!
I’m glad! I only just got around to watching it too, and it was worth it. It gets VERY heavy and grows with its audience. It’s made by Greg Weisman, the same person who made The Spectacular Spider-Man, so you know it’s gotta be good.

Look make it so that white martians communicate in a way that is annoying to green ones
Or that they can’t control their power.
Or make it like that they can’t normally use ships which make them a de facto working class.
Making it a colour thing just makes no sense for shapeshifter.
Their is a thousand way to present it but not just hey they are just a different colour what a clever metaphor for race relationship.
Hell they could have even go and said that the greens and the white had a war the greens won and now the white are seen as lesser being because there is a historical conflict behind it all
Young Justice was an incredible show. Thank you for your hard work!
She was a serious villain in season 2. Not sure I ever got over how evil she was
I honestly don't think that Miss Martian can be considered a villain during season 2 of young justice.
It's something that I hate about télépathie in media people's never concider the higly immoral implication.
I think the only one that actually mentionned the moral issue of those issues is proffesor x and that's when people's portray him as a Grey/ evil guy
@@dumbidea1007People need to stop throwing around the word "rape" so casually. To minimize something as horrific as that is disgusting.
It’s because the show gets over it way too fast as if it never happened. She got off Scott free and no one addresses it
Videos like this reinforce why I like Young Justice as much as i do. Great character, great writing, great messages
I wish I had gotten into this show long before I did but nevertheless im glad i discovered it period
You don't have to have it all together to help people. Is a great message that Young Justice touches on again and again. And in doing so, you also help yourself
Sometimes when you get hurt, you look for an excuse to harm someone else. Thus the cycle continues.
Black canary is based “not being yourself is never the answer”. It hits hard in this new society of people pretending to be something they aren’t
How ironic is it that for a species that visualizes and communicates mentally, they are still separated by sight.
We need a season 5 of this show its better than anything DC is currently producing in live action .
Facts
Wow, i never believed so much people hated her before read the comment section. Like around 5 years passed until season 4 and people are still mad for the acts of an immature girl that matured
This series shows that no one is perfect and season 1 already proved that with maestry.

One of my favorite parts of the show. Literally cemented her character in my mind and made her one of my favorites in fiction

I love the little AMVs you put in your edits- as a 2000s UA-cam kid, they're much, much appreciated
Literally the best on screen superhero relationship since Peter and MJ in the OG trilogy.
Ngl, I wouldn't have ever been willing to forgive M'gann if she tried to f*ck with my head like she did to Connor. There are only a couple of things I can think of that could be more violating and none that scare me more.
Thanks for your work man, this channel is my favorite as of late
This made me cry, I relate woth her a lot. Beautiful video. Youre my new favorite youtuber, you shed so much light on thes3 characters
Dude!! THANK YOUU!!
I was wondering why nobody was talking about Magaan, seriously.
Usually, the hurt we inflict on each other is reflected in ourselves.
You have to help yourself.”
And M’gann abandoning him, which I agree was something she didn’t handle well, is the only leg people who defend M’Comm have to stand on and it was always a pretty piss poor leg to begin with, but as time goes on and he gets older and his actions become more malicious…..that argument begins to rein hollow.
The title and the picture. My first words. Oh s^$t I own this series on dvd, and it still goes hard. Great topic too

I think they complete one another. or else why did they get attracted to each other?
@@justarandomdude.9285True, but what Megan did was a serious overstep of boundaries and trust. Super Boys main trauma comes from the fact that he's had people using telepathy on him his entire life

I *never* forgave Megan for what she did to Conner . Heck, when I was starting too, she used her powers to deceive Artemis into thinking she was talking to her dead boyfriend. She is definitely the kind of person who would lie in you face, then say she did it "for you own good" when you find out. Miss Martian is worst girl.
1. It was specifically said what Artemis saw was what she wanted to see.
2. That was so she could move on and find closure, something she never did after Wally’s death.
@@starrsmith3810 1. Still a lie.
2. I'm sure she won't feel at all violated when she finds out.
There is a difference between going to Artemis and saying "Hey, can I use my psychic powers to help you find closure? You would see what you want/need to see, it won't really be him, but you'll be able to say goodbye to your memory of him. I think it would be good for you." versus just using your powers to trick her in such a vulnerable moment without her consent. I would never trust Miss Martian as a friend.

they made the characters recently get together in the comics
the little story that confirmed they were in a relationship was bad but its canon to the comics now
Things we do as teenagers can sometimes be emotionally charged, petulant, even cruel.
Huh turns out the show has more than two seasons the more you know
It’s quite true high self esteem leads to high ego.
Megan is a amazing character. They merge Omen in her. Ps: I hope Young Justice return.
You're just pumping out the grade A videos.🎉
