Rest in Peace Mariska Veres 💗 Shocking Blue was one of the most underrated bands... Amazing song!
and rise on glory
They were a quite popular
WOW!!! A gem from times long gone. Those were the times of real music and rhythm. God bless those days.
Fantastic! What a voice.
It's the secret weapon of every gypsy broad
The Netherlands should be very very proud of Mariska...so pretty with her powerful and beautiful voice!!! I’m in a trance every time I watch a performance of her!!! 🇳🇱
Yep we do
She was an international mix: her father was a Hungarian gypsy violinist, her mother was German, her (mother line) grandparents were French and Russian.
Mariska Veres and Audrey Hepburn were definitely the most glamorous women ever to emerge from Netherlands onto the world stage. Usually the country “imports” glamor, but not with them!
Shocking Blue & Mariska Veres are just awesome, I still listen to them after all these years. It makes me happy & keeps me young at heart & spirit.
I wish I could time travel and watch this band perform live. They were so underrated. Great band and probably one of the best singers of her time.
I still love you Mariska!RIP❤️😘gone but not forgotten, what a voice 😎
Super band with an amazing singer. Mariska Veres was not only a very beautiful woman, she had a wonderful voice.
This is true ROCK!!!!
Psychedelic Rock))))
The doors
They sounded very much like Jefferson Airplane. But with a distinct flavour, of course.
@Panzer Brecher You're not very articulated, right? Is that why you go over the internet, insulting complete strangers for their musical opinions, and being expletive about famous rock groups?
@Panzer Brecher That's pretty sad to hear, man, hope you get over it someday. But if you pay attention to the keyboard, and the accompanying guitar, you'll begin to find The Doors sound pretty clearly
"Long and Lonesome Road" is the first track on their American album The Shocking Blue. The first time I played the album, I could not believe how great this song was. I actually got up from my chair and restarted the album.
The song was released in the US as the band's third single in May 1970. B-side was good too -- "Send Me a Postcard."
Just a remarkably talented group of young people making fantastic music. Every one was a star in their own right.
Shocking Blue waren meine Lieblingsband als Teenie, noch heute höre ich sie sehr gerne. Die Stimme von M. Veres ist klasse.
I love Mariska
In that order ?

1. Shocking Blue
“Under Rated”...most over used buzz word in YT comments. SB never fit into the category of Under Rated
@@Oh_I_Will You may be right but that doesn't mean it doesn't apply here. All most people know from Shocking Blue is "Venus," which is a great song but they have any number that of songs that are equally good and arguably better. This was a great band, far more deserving of the "one-hit wonder" label with which they've stuck in the U.S.
namely so!
Back in the 60's, if you weren't american or british, it was almost impossible to have the same success.
At least Venus was a great hit...But they weren't only that song.
You' ve forgot Sjocking Blue.
Wow! Discovering Shocking Blue! I had never heard this song before, I love it!
This song is amazing ! Mariska is a legend !
Goddess of music with the magic voice 😍
such a strong and amazing voice oh my... rest in peace legend...
I LOVE this band. Sounds... And Mariska. R.I.P. :.(
She seemed bit shy or just "troubled" with all videos.
Listened this since ~1998.
I'm 41 now...
Fantastic song! Goosebumps!
Damn this is freaking amazing! Just discovered this, and couldn't be more amazed.
Please tell me that you love the song Where I Am by the Funkoars too
Dutch pride
@@edhydra4995 Mariska was also partially Russian 😁 Her mother was half-Russian. As a fun fact, maybe for the reason of her heritage, maybe for something else, but Shocking Blue's "Venus" was a virus song in the 70-80s in the USSR. People called it "Shizgara" for the misheard "she's got it" lyrics.
I miss my Shizgara! Hope she's doing well up there, or wherever else. She earned a place among the angels with her voice.
Mariska!!! Super Legends!!! Thank You!!!!
This song was first released the year I was born and I am just discovering it now about 52 years later. Wish I had heard this great song sooner but at least I'm here now.
What a masterpiece!...
R.I.P. Mariska. Wonderful.
Wonderful Shocking blue ……forever……..
can never have enough clips of mariska..thanks so much for this one.
Can''t stop listening this track, as I find it several days ago...
One of the immortal songs. True legends. 💚✌
Very beautuful sung! Это суперхит!
Years and years ago (from about 1992 to 2005 circa) this beatiful song was used here in Italy as the opening theme in a radio show of Rock FM (a local radio in Milano) !!!
She has an amazing voice
What an amazing voice.
The music Top over in the world... Blessings!
Brilliant. Had never heard of Mariska Veres or Shocking Blue until tonight. Can't believe I missed this.
A good wake up call for you to start listening to alternative sources for your listening pleasures. SB is/was anything but an obscure band. Limitless options to tune in or stream to....
I love this band x
I love this song!
Truly an amazing band at the time. A few of their songs became hits for a second or third time when covered by other artists. Pit they could find a clip of them singing this song.
I love this song. Sad Mariska died too young.
She was 59 y.o. Not to old, but not to young for shure.
@@sergeyminakov4501 but still she was chill it's a shame she died and idiot like grace slick still alive after all shi she did
@@sergeyminakov4501 59 is very young to pass away. Way too soon!!
2020 and still going strong!
She was so beautiful in her youth... 😻
My uncle gifted me this band's 45 record.I still have it...
Send me a postcard/Long lonesome road...A great performance.
I had heard the song Venus as a kid in the late 60s early 70s.
Fifty years later I happened upon a UA-cam video of Venus and it blew me away!
What a delight to discover the band that created a melody that was in my subconscious all those years.
Fantastic.
Geweldig die Robbie van Leeuwen
She was really talent and she was in music industry underestimated . ..
Big fan from 1968 till now 👍
This song could have easily launched the band's career internationally, but for some reason it didn't. Of course Venus did and started out what Robbie van Leeuwen wanted in the first place: international fame.
When he finally got, it almost killed him..
The tragedy of it.
Robbie left his old band, which was quite successful in Holland, but not abroad. He needed something else for that and started a new band. His manager proposed an female singer. The other male band members weren't that keen on accepting a female singer. There weren't that many successful bands around with a female lead singer.
Mariska on the other hand was very happy in her own band and very reluctant to change as well. So both were not very keen on hooking up together,
The manager decided to bring them together and when Mariska entered the room, she knocked the guys off their feet, with her appearance and voice.
It is easy to understand why...
Well, the rest is history.
Thanks, very interesting.
Somehow they were convinced they had to put out 2 or 3 full albums a year and tour almost all the time and Robbie could not work that fast and the quality of the music (and the band member's lives) suffered. But when they were good, there was nobody better. The Shocking Blue recorded one song with a male lead singer ("Lucy Brown is Back in Town") before their manager saw Mariska in a concert and decided to introduce them. It's strange that Venus did so much better in the USA than did several other, better songs they put out that year.
@@paulperkins1615 All follow ups weren't better. Next single after Venus was Mighty Joe. A good one, but not as good as Venus. Same for the other follow ups, like Never marry a railroad man and Hello darkness.
20 still and ALWAYS will be awsome!
This sounds very better than another contemporary rock band.
Her voice! Nothing more needs to be said.
On a Sunday night while driving my car
In the sky a fallin' star
Tellin' myself I don't go too far
And trust by the sound of the rain
Well I wonder, well I wonder where I am
'Cos there's a long and lonesome road
That will find our world of you & me babe
There's a long and lonesome road
That will find our world like it used to be babe
Somebody there to show me the way
Yes, I'm willin' to pay
And this dear old man can tell me any day
Know what happens to me
Well I wonder, well I wonder where I am
'Cos there's a long and lonesome road
That will find our world of you & me babe
There's a long and lonesome road
That will find our world like it used to be babe
I've love Shocking Blue since "Send me a postcard"!
Here I thought Jess & The Ancient Ones wrote this song. Glad I found the original!
Bravo!
Oh, sorry for the Marisku Veres! Still quite young, died of cancer. Very beautiful, kind and talented woman was. Not Megastar of course, but still, it had a very bright talent. Always pity and bitter to the soul, when, such as Mariska, people, earlier than a lot of the time, passed away.
You have expressed my sentiments exactly!! Mariska should have been a megastar!!
Great Voice.
Great Singer.
Legendary female rock star ♥️
"Lonesomeroad "and "Send me a postcard" are terrific great sixties rock songs.Shocking Blue was a great underrated band.
I just stumbled on to this. Awesome.
Never one word about their drummer.
yes, I agree.
All the band, really. Great arrangements & parts. Headphones reveal all the details. That was the game changer for me.
I love this song too much since I was a child
Too much would mean that you probably rate them higher than they deserve to be.
How about “so much”
erg goed nummer met een fantastische Mariska
Mariska, she was a gem.
i always envision this song in a quentin tarantino movie, it would fit so well
SO GREAT SOUNDS
amazing color of a a voice,outstanding
I like this song very much.In my opinion better than Venus. And now this one! Thanks to such people like you Mariskaveresforever it is possible to discover the magnificent band like Shocking Blue and singer Mariska Veres.
Agree, it's better than Venus
I agree. The first single I bought was Send me a Postcard, which was in the Dutch charts at that moment. Then I bought Long and Lonesome Road, that had been in the charts a bit earlier. Then there elpee At Home came out and I bought it for 12.95 Dutch guilders. When I first heard Venus on the radio I felt disappointed. Venus had a much clearer sound and I thought it had been influenced by Get Back and The Ballad of John and Yoko of The Beatles. More country.
Interesting song, interesting sound.
Super! Thanx for posting.& great video job.
Excellent
I loved this!!! 😍
Damn, one great song after another.
listen to the song Quest Pistols - I'm Tired, you might even like it more)
My personal favourite Shocking Blue track
Thank you very much for posting.
Rock & Blues at THE TOP !!!
Yeah naast Venus is dit zo'n beetje The Doors' "Break on thru" tegenover the Archies' "Sugar Sugar"
(hoewel Venus op haar slofjes toch dat potje wint van die Candy Girl ;)
Wouw, not just pretty face!!! Priceless!!!
PERFECT BAND.
This is really good.
Awesome band and a very awesome video you put together using a great song.
Thank you.
1st of hers ? Amazing.
👑
One the greatest ever.
Certainly awesome!!! THX2
Thank you for video!!!
this is true rock!!!!!!!!
SHOCKING BLUE HAD TALENT< GREAT SOUND< MARISKA VERES HAUNTING VOICE< A DRIVING BASS & WAS SO UNDER RATED> WOULD HAVE LOVED PLAYING IN THE BAND> R>I>P> MARISKA
she has that pain in her voice, very few have it
If we listen the power of this song, it could be one of the first 'Hard' Rock track with a female on vocal, the guitar sound wild, the voice is powerful, and the drums so loud..... For people who listened the music at that time, I'm interesting to know, who was for you the first female artist with the spirit of Hard Rock music? Thanks from France....
I totally agree!😎🏹
another woman i thought of was janis joplin with a song from 68 'piece of my heart'...she had a sort of blue's rock voice
MariskaVeres make me think of Ann Wilson from Heart . Also an underated band , who inspired lot of pple , even from hard rock . And also an exceptionnal singer .
Mariska FOREVER !!!
I wish this song could just jammed on for another 5 min without the fade (any sessions out there without the radio edits??) - what a powerhouse arrangement and searing vocal!
this is great...never heard it before
Great!
So good !!! ❤
