  • With his gravelly voice, the jazz legend Louis Armstrong introduced the song WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD in the United States in the 1960s. Ironically, it took two decades for the song to reach its popularity in the US in the 1980s, after reaching a number one hit in the UK in the 1960s and a top 20 in Italy in the 1970s. The song was composed by Bob Thiele (pseudonym George Douglas) and George Weiss and first recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1967. In 2015, the creators of WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD was honored with the Songwriter Hall of Fame’s Towering Song Award, recognizing “an individual song that has influenced our culture in a unique way over the years” (images in these video clips were created by Adrian Tan; additional images were taken from Pexel).
