Our Buddy was 6mo old when he chose us for adoption. I didn't know he was a Carolina dog until he was almost 2 and someone told me. That was the most deeply loyal and intuitive dog I could have imagined. He never left the kids side and would have laid his life down for them without a second of thought. He stood up to bears, and uncertain strangers all while maintaining a stoic yet playful appearance. Never aggressive unless challenged and loved my kids more than anything else in his life. We were blessed to have him 14 years and laid him to rest yesterday. Forever in our hearts, forever our Buddy ❤️

My daughter is now 20 and my son is 14. We lost a family member who happened to be a dog. And if what you say is true I will spend the rest of my life looking for him. If I can't find him then I promise to spend the rest of my life trying to be like him. He loved me because we both shared the same love for those kids and I will never forget him. And neither will they. That breed is really something special.
My Carolina loves to break sticks, too. She's four, now, so she no longer has quite this energy level, unless she's hanging out with her doggie friends.

My carolina dog doesn't look like a Carolina dog, he's black and white, he's scared of pretty much everything, but he does like to play and wrestle with my other dog. He can be a pain but we love him just the same.

I thought that wild dog cannot be adopted!!! " Well, sorry ladies, she is mine, but thanks for the confirmation. :D Mine did not shed too much, I am in NJ, with distinct four seasons. Do provide them unlimited water though, not that you didn't... I used to have Japanese Shiba Inu, they shed twice a year, if you collect the hair, you can make a twin size blanket every Christmas!!!! I have a Carolina dog…just like this one. Having trouble with him on the leash. He always pulls and I’ve been doing the stop tree thing, but it’s been rough. Love him but he’s got sooo much energy.
I have a longer training leash over my waist to hold my CD. When she was younger, I need to add two sets of strong bungees to share the pull. I walked in the field a lot with her, sometimes, sudden appearance of interest subjects will result in strong pulls. I need to buy those real rock climbing hooks to be sure nothing will break loose. But as she grown more mature, she pull less, and now we have easy walks. Every walk is a walk in the park. :D

We have a carolina dog mix that gets the zoomies exactly like this! Only thing, is that she likes to bite (playfully, but she bites hard and it hurts) when she gets into these modes. Any advice on how to train her to stop the biting during these high energy periods?
Light biting from CD is a way to show her affection. I got red marks on my arms all the time when mine was young. Kind of missing those moments. Of course you can tell her NO, but I like to let my dogs express themselves. So when she want to show love, I gladly accept it. 🥰❤️🤗 High energy is another thing, mine like to play ball, I always have two and we exchanged when she fetch back. Play until her drop, shown by dipping herself into a kiddy pool. That is a signal for last 5 minutes, then she will have a good rest of the day, and night.😊

I lost my Carolina Dog back in March, I adopted her at 2 years old. Didn’t know what I had adopted but knew she was jot exactly like any other dog I had ever had. Took her get a DNA test. She was a handful but, I miss her so much she was 12. I don’t think I could handle another one tho. This dog looks like her.

I had one for 19 years. Run run run. it's tongue would be hanging out from breathing heavily. She would just run more. Of course until she got to senior citizen age of course.
This is just like watching my puppy, Cheese play! Just found out she’s likely mostly a CD + maybe a small amount of German shepherd? Not positive if anything else because her ears are still floppy at 6 months
I love my Carolina dog, it was kind of like a stray, lived under an old lady's house up the street, never has any attention or love. It became besties with our little dog, our dog got hit by a vehicle, stray dog stayed, l guess adopted us, now she's telling everyone how she rescued us. We've been hers for almost a year now, she's turned into a true friend, she's my shadow. We live rural, nobody can sneak up on us, she's very protective of her pack. She's probably around ten yrs old, l think, but l know one thing for sure, somebody is spoiling the heck out of her. I've seen her catch a rabbit, eat mice, and actually climb trees. She doesn't have to do that anymore.
Stray dogs will pick up their human friend, and they will be the best family members of that lucky one. I was picked up once, when I was in college, and that snubbish street dog observed me for over a month, then decided to be my shadow. We were never apart after that. He died of old age, and we had a fantastic time together. My Carolina dog and three other dogs were all adopted, stray dogs. I like their instinct and respectfully enjoy their differences. We are each other's " emotional support animal". 😂 Thank you for sharing, I wish the little one was fine after the accident. All the Best! KD

This little dog is amazing, I've had dogs my whole life, all kinds, this breed is unique in a beyond cool kind of way.

We adopted one not really knowing what she is until a neighbor told us. She is the most loyal and friendly dog ever. Shed like a storm but the best.
