I want to truck in the oil fields bro any suggestions where I may be able to start at ?? I got my hazmat,doubles/triples, tanker endorsements I got 1 yr over the road and 8 months over the road in hotshot. Let me know any good company’s that are paying well please if you can. I live in dallas,tx
It depends on the work when there's plenty of work company drivers can make 1,800 to 3k a week more or less depending on how you run I averaged out 1,800 last year with the weeks off and weeks of slow work
As an o/o, can you work say 20 hrs per week and still generate a profit in this field of work? This job sounds good for retirement. Assuming you can pick up loads whenever you want and around the clock. I can do all my daytime stuff and then pick up a load and call it a day. A few times a week and still have Friday-Monday off.
Yeah you might be able to I'm not sure what the over head would look like but some drivers do that and they are ok puling 1 load a day making maybe 1k a week or even less not sure. I myself always aim to get at least 10 loads or more a week over 70 hours a week with the well wait times I think in 20 hours you can probably get 3 maybe 4 loads
@@elwero0g I’ve noticed that most o/o’s work under somebody else’s authority. How do you go about operating under your own to maximize profits when hauling sand?
You should look into maybe like an LTL company that does linehaul (terminal to terminal) or Pick up and Delivery routes, I once worked at an LTL company that had back up drivers to cover line haul loads or P&D routes if a driver was sick or called in or just had alot of overflow freight at terminal and just needed a few part timers on call to relieve the pressure when needed. The old guys that did that were retired or only wanted to work a few days a week or part time for somthing to do, they had several on calls for various times of day or night and I think they had to be available at certain times of day or night on certain days but there was a cutoff time where the company wouldn't call them to keep the in their routine.
Yeah for sure I know a 5f hire owner ops for sand boxes also arepet express hire owner ops I would also get on Facebook and look for groups that have frac sand work or texas frac sand haulers ect. Wish you luck
So I’m wondering? How much do the companies charge to lease their specific trailer for their own specific box? I also assume there’s really no point in even buying your own trailer since they are not universal? Or is there a sand hauling trailer that will fit every box? Please let me know your thoughts on this??
I did not know that trailers are not universal I've driven many trucks and trailers and one truck in the oil fields pipeline just like the one I'm driving now hooked up to water tanks pneumatic tanks flat beds dry van even the big drilling rigs as long as it has a king pin I don't see why you can't hook up to it. As for the lease price I don't know our company leases trucks only but only for refrigerated division I'm on the energy division hauling a pneumatic sand tanker so if I wanted to lease their truck I'd have to run their refrigerated trailers over the road don't think they'd let me use mine but then again I don't know much about any type of leasing, sorry
Good question and to be honest is not that simple to tell you how much I make. I can tell you I make pretty good money because I run loads when there is loads. some drivers don't take loads after certain time don't want to drive for whatever reason. Wfx has work not just in oil field so the rates will vary based on material being delivered and distance or miles loaded. We get paid percentage I'm at 33% so if a load pays 1,000 I make 330 I've been in wells where I got 3 of those 1k 90 mile runs in one day that's almost 1k in one day but in average expect the loads to pay 500 to 800 that's about 160 to 240 a load it can be one on one day it can be 3 even 4 on another is not very consistent you'll have to take loads when they're available night or day and sometimes it sucks but overall it's decent. yearly in the past 2 plus years I've been in oil field I make more than 5 times the minimum wage and 6 figures is not unheard of if you run a lot and have a good dispatcher i like to take a lot of days off this year ive probably taken 2 months offand made over 80k. I hope that answers your question if you have more specific questions just hit me up on ig I'll gladly answer DMs I'll try to be more active here tho
@@elwero0g hey man I’ve been offered a job with sandbox logistics, the guy is telling me I’ll get 22% per load. Im only considering it because I tried doing OTR for a regular carrier and hated it. Now I’m seeing videos with do much bad reviews about it I’m second guessing if I should do it. Do you think it’s still a good time to get into hauling sand or us it not worth it?
@@ThaHojoShow at 22% I wouldn't do it I don't think the rates are paying better than pneumatic plus i heard boxes can make 1 or 2 more loads than us but with the wait times at the loading facilities I think it's almost the same. Anything oil field in my 3 years experience is up and down, good some weeks and bad some I'm sure there's money in sand box even at 22% but it's never never guaranteed
@Tom P you put a lot of hours even tho we're on ELD logs, time freezes at well with oil field wait time or texas time you stop your clock with breaks and on average you get 10 loads per week depending on how you work and the work available it can be less it can be more it is a very demanding job is easy but being out 2-3 weeks or more at the time taking loads sometimes late at night or early mornings it can be exhausting
Nope I'm currently with wfx I started the oil field work in the pipeline hauling water for the boring crew hauled pipes on flatbed and heavy equipment with a lowboy once the pipeline went down I did over the road for a couple months but didn't really like OTR and decided to come back to the oil field as a fracsand hauler and that's what I've been doing for over a year now
@@marathonlogistics9943 I know wfx requires 12 months otr but go into the Facebook sand hauling groups and you'll most likely get someone or some company hiring no experience drivers with at least 6 months otr and since we're doing dry bulk I doubt you need the tankers endorsement. I want to come to the oil field any recommendations on where to get a blower and what brand to get please point me in the right direction I have my on 2014 freightliner automatic truck it’s paid off I’m currently doing dry van but I want better money as a owner operator
Yeah for sure I'm not an owner operator i work for wfx but from what I hear you can go to 5f and all you need is a truck is a good way to get into the sand and experience what we have to go through some company drivers from wfx where owner operators they now work for wfx because of all the over head and hassle. If I had my own truck and didn't know if i liked it before investing in a blower and trailer I would go to 5f pull sand boxes and get the feel for it i hope it helps

There's no owner operators in wfx energy division but I hear 5f pays same day and they're making about 1,500 a day not sure how true that is there's also other companies who hire OPs but not sure how much money there is after all the over head and fuel and tax
