- The Song Is Called I'm A Ding Dong Daddy
This Marks The First And only Performance Of The Orignal Benny Goodman Quartet On TV. Benny Goodman On Clarinet, Gene Krupa On Drums, Teddy Wilson On Piano, Lionel Hampton On Vibraphone. Also featuring George Duvivier On Bass.
Recorded October 23, 1972
At Philharmonic Hall, Lincoin Center New York.
They"ll never be another Quartet like this one. Ever!!
Krupa had suffered his first stroke at that time but MAN what a drummer. He was a role model for all us drummers, AND he helped Slingerland develop the Drum set we know today back in the 30's.
And that.....my friends..... Is how to do it. A solid gold masterclass. Enough said!
4 legends of the business doing what they do best making incredible music!
Have a vinyl of Krupa's quartet recorded at the London House in 1959.Loved his feel on the ride cymbal.Tasty &very imaginative accents & riffs. Good training tool.
Only one Buddy & only one Gene Krupa
Yeah man...gotta pull the seat covers outta my butt after that...lol...wonderful stuff!
This is the original quartet + 1 = quintet!
It's actually called "I'm A Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas." (Wherever that is.)
duh .. all you have to do is look it up .. too much work for you I guess. I'm A Ding Dong Daddy From Dumas is a song written and sung by Phil Baxter, accompanied by Phil Harris and his orchestra in 1928. It was originally named after the town of Dumas, Texas.
@@JOHNSAG1 Thanks. I can die happy now that I know that piece of information.
is that really all the original members??
Yes, plus a bass player who was never in the quartet (or else it would have been a quintet!).
And you have to wonder how they reached the decision with those quartet and sometimes trio things they did, to NOT use a bass player. Not that they swung any the less hard for it...!
